Had flu shot.....

a week ago and now I'm sick!! I have a shot every year and this has never happened before!! So just dropping in for this post to say I will be back soon, take care and wrap up warm :-)

Louisa, I hope you are feeling better soon! Get lots of vitamin c and chicken soup. I wish you lived closer - I'd make my homemade soup and deliver it to you personally, along with a few jokes to lift your spirits. Take care!

The flu shot doesent make you sick.It takes almost a month for the antibodies to kick in,to protect you.If your sick ,its because you were exposed to some germs and would have gotten sick whether you got the flu shot or not.Who knows someone waiting in the doctors office or waiting in line at the flu shot clinic or at a grocery store could have been typhoid mary....But wrap up,drink fluids and REST!!!Hope your better soon.

Louisa, so sorry to read this, hope you are feeling better soon! I heard the same thing crestedchick said about the getting the flu shot. There was a dr. on tv last week saying that the shot prevents the flu, but sometimes the bug is in you already and then it is too late :( I do hope you bounce back soon...((((sending you a get well hug)))

YES you can get the flu from a flu shot!! It does not prevent the flu it just reduces the chance of you getting one of the millions of strains of it. It is a live virus that you are given. ( and I give ton's of them)
Eight years ago right before thanksgiving the Doctor I worked for said oh just get one "it's free"! Silly me got the shot and within a week I had the flu so bad I did not move for 5 day's! (I never did like him) I would never get another one!!!!!
So unless you have health problems such has diabetes, hypertension or heart problems etc, etc, my suggestions would be DON'T get one!!!!
Just my opinion now mind you!!!!!

Sue, I so agree with you. The worst cases of flu I ever had were the ones when I had flu shots, and it was consistent. Don't get it, avoid flu, do get it and guarantee flu for me.
But I already know I am extremely susceptible to viral diseases. I think this isn't as true for many people.

I'd have to get sick...shots absolutely terrify me...God forbide I ever get something and HAVE to get shots. Sick to my tummy just thinking about it!! Feel better soon,louisa.

I've gotten the flu shot every year for 10 years now. One year I missed, and I got the flu. I have asthma, and am very susceptible to upper respiratory infections. The doctor told me that a flu shot would probably help cut back on the number of times I get bronchitis, etc. in the winter, and so far, he's been right on the money.

Which reminds me, I need to start looking around for a place giving flu shots this year :)

Well, I'm back - sort of!!! Making a wobbly attempt to start living again!! Thanks all and Vic I needed those hugs!! Feel like I've been kicked by a mule and guess the bug came too soon after my wonderful but tiring trip to Europe. The good news is that I had a great Thanksgiving with our neighbour just before I became poorly - what a cook!! My first 'real' American dinner and I guess it gave me some sustenance to fight the bug!! The sweet lady is bringing me turkey soup today and I look forward to that!! DH is going to make an attempt to get into the attic and haul out those boxes and boxes of Christmas stuff, then the cats need to get to the vet this week for their rabies shots and I have to visit the dentist. This doesn't sound much but now that we are living about 30 mins from the inner city it's a nuisance having to make trip after trip. I resent the time spent travelling when I could be doing something else but there again it probably does me good - I mean I have to sit still - there's no choice in the matter...lol!! Hope you are all still enjoying this lovely season :-)
