Something a little random again.
So today I have my 9 year old apprentice, which I will have a lot for the next 2 months since school is out. We have a retired digital camera that has been hers to use when she is here for a few years now. She took a picture of a gazania in the yard in 2014 and today she decided to reproduce it in water colours. She obviously didn't inherit those talents from our side of the family. Wendy and I have trouble with stick men. That she got from her dad. Grandpa is a little challenged in getting pictures from one device to the other so I just had to take a picture of her original shot displayed on her camera with my cell
Plant Propagation: The Basics Summer 2016
Well done Apprentice! Look how many petals she got in there and we get to see it before the paint even dries. I'd say she definitely has talent. Kudos!
Very Nice !!! the paintings are WOW !!! Excellent
All The flowers look Wonderful !!!
Robin, yes they are all tall, the forst two came from Eastern Kansas on the way to Arkansas, and the double triple came with this house 30 years ago. I have tubers of the third one sitting in bags out by the rain barrels waiting for a home, one of them is blooming from the bag :P I have been trying to get yellow primrose for some time now, but none of the sees have given me anything. The pink is not well behaved, beware! LOL If you want any of the above, let me know
Love the nest, and the pond is so calming, Keith.
This tried to bloom double this time , the other bloom from a few days ago , same plant ,pic 1
The Monarda here , from Debra also began to finish blooming out Thank you Debra , If I can find any Primrose seeds or other I will send them along , None are growing here this year , First time in a decade ,
Hi all ,, enjoying all the posts
Dear Grandpa Keith, Please please give her any opportunity to continue her artistic skills as you have a very gifted one there.. It is even better when she can draw or paint what she sees, rather than abstract it out, I have four artistic members in this family, and one of them has sold her pieces for hundreds of dollars, and the other one is still trying to get on with a publishing company to illustrate for children's books, and Joe is the abstract artist, and I am the "real life" artist. Course that was back when we both could see and hold a brush or pen. Then there is Charlie, who can't and never will be able to draw a straight line .
Robin, that Monarda is called Raspberry Wine. It is really pretty and I bet that is what I sent to Ju as well. The Gardenview Scarlett is red, and pink supreme is pink. Then there is the lavender one and a darker one I have but I'd have to get my records out for their "names".
Ju, I do not have those fancy day lillies here, no room now for any, but they sure are pretty!
I'm trying to find homes for many things right now. In Fall I will be posting things I am wanting to send away and they are all perennials. Here are five of them.. if you can name and want, you can have them! *hint* 2 are vines, two are tall perennials (4 to 8 ft) and one is a tree... ( having fun here..)
The first one looks like Cercis canadensis (redbud tree), I'll take some Clematis and Phlox (the next two) and finally Lonicera and Gaura.
I'll send you some yellow Primrose and perhaps can find some other things you'd like. Thanks for the Monarda Raspberry Wine, it's beautiful!
Ju your DL is trying to be a double...lol, imagine that! She sure is pretty though. I'm enjoying all the posts too...yay!
That Clematis looks just like my Nellie Moser. Is that what it is? What is the one right after it? Beautiful. I think I would love to have a start of it but would like to know what it is first. I know, picky, but have to know I have a place for it. Is that what it is Robin, a phlox? Would love to have some of it.
Debra, I really owe you. Let me know something you are really dying to have and I will do everything I can to get you one. jen

Wow. Active night on here. Nice lily Ju. Your phlox and clematis are beautiful too Debra. I guess I don't have any day lilies. Several Asiatics I believe that I am waiting very impatiently for. It is so cold again. It is 6C already and 5 more hours before it will go up at all.
Thank you all for your comments on Kira's painting. Debra, your words were very encouraging. She is the the first budding artist in this family. Thanks to her daddy for that. Wendy is now off for the summer as well and her and Kira have been going over the Fall Fair book making lists of categories that Kira and Reece can enter. Hopefully will keep them busy. Now that grandma is off I will be chopped liver!!!
Keith
Debra I don't want to be the party pooper here but I have those growing here ,
I still want to send you some things , as I'm able I will ,
There are a couple types of yellow primrose, any particular choice , I have a few seeds to send out to a couple people and then I should be back to even , (meaning caught up ,) Things are always new , gardening is never a truly even project ,
Robin ,, Thank you ,,about Daylily
Cats woke me up ,, so i'm threading , lol
whoops ,, cross post ,,, Great go on the budding Artist !!! and thank you also about the Daylily ,. Not as nice as your peony , !!! I like it though ,,

well, almost right.. can't sleep because of my worrying about work stuff. this honda airbag recall is killing me.. The purple flower above is dames rocket. It blooms in spring and goes to seed in summer, while the phlox is blooming in summer. I have my garden bed designed to always have blooms of something, and found the right combinations here. I have about 6 established root systems ready to plant in your gardens. the phlox is this one .. I have two colors white and purple/lav or dark pink.. it blooms after the dames rocket is finished and gone to seed. I usually let the seed heads dry to almost done, and cut them down and put them in large paper bags to finish drying. The seed heads look like brooms on top before cutting them down.. in the 4th picture you can see a broom type seed head in with the now blooming monardas and the datura is also holding it's own while the dames rocket seems to hold it all up. I will be thinning these out and will be glad to send anyone anything they want from this area. Last pic is the chicory..it is kinda of tied up so I can walk down that little path.. and Yes, that is a red bud sapling about 3 1/2 feet tall. I have two huge plants of the now 7 ft tall guara, it can be cut back two times here for continual blooms. Just d-mail me who wants what. I also have a heavenly bambo
( nandina) houtuunia chamelon ground cover, periwinkel ground cover, and varigated vinca. I will also have a beauty berry bush that is about 4 years old, and a goji berry about 5 years old I will be taking out. Best thing to do is have me tag them, and then dig them out roots and all, cut them back and send to you. okay, I might try to sleep now.. *sigh* Oh wait, I forgot to mention "madame galen" trumpet vine, and some passion vines. That nelly mosier is going to have to go away since I have two. I am looking for a clematis called "mental beauty".
Enjoyed your "not able to sleep" rambling Debra. Just so you know, retiring doesn't seem to cure that, at least not for me. I just find something else to worry about like my plants freezing. Got to 4C by 5:00 AM again.
Hi Mipii, I had Yellow Primrose in a container for years because it got so invasive in the garden ,but I lost it a year ago . I have the Pink Oenothera and it stay in just one area since I planted there 9 years ago. Can anyone know what the flower in picture 2 is I think the birds brought it .I made cutting from Inpatients last fall and they are doing well.My phlox are now blooming
Thanks for that info on your Oenothera Cytf. Doesn't your 2nd pic look an awful lot like Debra's #3 pic above?
well my tomatoes are alive and there are a few more fruit on them, but no new fruit will set while the temp is close to 100, thinking about moving them to the east side flowerbed (they are in buckets, haha) where they will have afternoon shade. right now, thinking about starting tomato seed for fall plants in the greenhouse, or cuttings off of the ones I have going, what do you think? center of greenhouse doesn't get above 101 often. On top of the temp stabilizing fish tank away from the windows
Oh yes you are right, it's dames rocke, that's the same as joeswife . I researched it and it states that it's also a Virginia wildflower.so I guess that how I got it,Yesterday when I come home from shopping and my landscaper was just leaving and he hailed out to me that he saw a grey and white Rabbit in my yard .Omg I am in trouble ,he already began to nip at my plants. I found out that they do not like Marigolds so I planted some today.Hope he leaves my yard ,I also bought Go Away Rabbit ,Dog and Cat Repellent at Lowes.Wish me luck
Our biggest challenge with tomatoes is getting the night time temperature high enough to set fruit, didn't realize there were challenges at the opposite end of the mercury as well
Keith
I had an issue with rabbits after my beautiful dogs passed, a couple of years later I rescued cats and haven't had a problem since. Good luck saving your foliage, I've no doubt you'll figure it out. You could always give rescue dogs/cats to each of your adjoining neighbors, lol (just kidding, don't do that).
Wow Keith, you've got to have home grown tomatoes, stick 'em in your hothouse.
I'd love to have just the Clematis Debra, if nobody else more deserving wants it that is. I don't mind taking a back seat to these guys at all!
Love your DL's Ju and your catmint doesn't look chewed or rolled in at all. I wish mine looked so good! Is that Monarda the same as mine? You have Syriacus already? You're just bloomin right along.
Robin , Yes ,, the same as yours Maybe we can share Hummingbirds also ,, lol
Only a couple blooms on the Syricus , stringy and leaning this year ,,
None of my garden area looks "right" though ,,
I was planting Corn salad and Hybrid Yarrow a few minutes ago , I seem to of misplaced several starter pots ,, like ,,, a Bag full of them ,, yikes ,
My rabbits LOVE marigolds Ju - the little wild bunnies would come in my front yard and target my marigolds.
Oh yes, gardening in Texas is different. 2 growing seasons, the challenge is getting things to live through the summer, and produce in the short non 100 window
Hey, we are having a sunny day. Doesn't make for taking good pictures except in shady areas. These 5 are all in the Japanese garden where there is lots of shade. First is German Iris in front of the sign that my middle daughter made for me for Father's Day the year that the Japanese garden was created. Apparently it says "GROWTH" & "NATURE". Would be easy to pull the wool over my eyes. Second is cattails in bog as a backdrop to Hostas, then more Hostas. Fourth is Solomons Seal. Fifth is mixed callas and coleus in pot
Gypsi, I think your fall sowing and cutting idea is a great one right now.. I am starting some now to have some at Thanksgiving.. the plants grow and bloom well downstairs in winter, the fruit does not set for me, prolly not hot enough down there?
always fun to experiment. nice flowers cytff, your second photo is the sweet fragrant " bouncing bet "http://www.kswildflower.org/largePhotos.php?imageID=1763&aCategory=f&lastModified=2007-11-11 which is also what mine are up there.. and the dames rocket is the purple ones..
so busy here at work ya all are posting in tween my replies LOL Robin yes, you can have the clematis .. YAY!
can't wait to see who posted what while answering all these calls and typing this :P

Keith, I really love the solomon seals and your sedums the best right now..
Still envious of your pond.
That is all great things !!! all !!!
I'm praying for Hummers...I LOVE those little things! As soon as you start an unrelated project, your pots will show up...right when you don't need them lol. I mean...argh!
Keith bad day for good photographs and still you managed to pull it off, you just make me look bad...
Nobody looks bad Robin
Robin i am only trying to get a few more plants in before I give away seeds i use , Cats are not helping as I have to have them larger and hardened before the cats walk or lay on them
I would hope they would lay on the catnip , but nooo My Kale and Mustard they love to lay and roll in ,, yi yi , eeee ek ,,

Robin Nice to be appreciated ,,, lots of garden help .. Digging , fertilizing , Chopping
oh rodent chasing ,, bug eating and chasing , bird repellent ,,
All kinds of occasional talk about wants and what not ..lol
Yes Ju, we get the help whether we need it or not. I'm happy to share my garden with wild and domestic life (I know you are too).
Keith, you better keep making me look bad! If I can't dedicate the space to have the gardens you have, I can dedicate the time to drool over yours!
Sorry to disappoint Robin, I shouldn't have gotten so carried away yesterday. We are finally getting some serious summer and lots of sun. I've already shown all the shady highlights now everything is in the bright sun. I will have guests this evening so doubt I will get anything on at sundown unless it's quite late. They are seniors so you never know. They may leave early.
Keith.
PS. If the long range forecast is right it looks like my tomatoes may start setting fruit. I have lots of blossoms.
Oh Robin,. I love you bud ing calla lilys :D
Gosh you all, how do you get so many flowers blooming at the same time? Debra, would love a start from the lavender/purple phlox. It is gorgeous. Hopefully we are getting cooler weather for a bit. Don't know why, normally the heat doesn't bother me. Sure has this year. And it was only in the high 80s, But, looks like 70s coming up.
Lotsa baby animals out and about now. Saw a flock of baby turkeys running up the sidewalk in town today, trying to keep up with mama and papa. So cute. Lotsa spotted fawns too. Even the baby hummers have left the nest now and eating at the feeders. Believe it or not, they are about half as big as the adult hummers. Never know it the way they want to pick a fight with the bigger ones.
Can't say these are not about propagation. LOL
