Actually, a wonderful week...but today was the best yet.
We have had the most blessed, stress-free, happy, joyous, loving, and good-eaten Thanksgiving ever!
JustmeLisa and her family, and Calalily and her family joined us for a cajun/southern feast that could have fed all of Dave's Garden. We won't need to eat for a week :)
Good food, good friends, good fun, and a great day- what could be better?
Here's hoping that all of you had such a joyous holiday!
Dave and Trish

Oh, it's so nice to read that you took a well deserved rest among good friends. I feel like the benefits are just streaming on to the rest of us. Now, have a great weekend to follow it and enjoy each other.
What a wonderful blessing to be surrounded by friends and good food of course.
Blessings to all of you there.
we had deep fried turkey, a tur-duck-en (both are cajun inventions, we do strange things to our food..lol) a turduckin is a deboned turkey, with a deboned duck stuffed in the turkey's cavity with a deboned chicken stuffed in the duck that is stuffed in the turkey and in the chicken is a seafood dressing..whatta meal!
stuffed oyster dressing
mashed taters
peas
corn
homemade cheese rolls
jambalaya
gravey
apple squash casserole
cranberries
waldorf salad
pumpkin pie
apple pie
praline cheesecake
I think I covered it all...Trish and I tagged team in the kitchen and it was great!
Oh Lisa,
You really must plan on bringing your Cajun self to Ohio next year. Dave and Trish are great, but come on, they had their turn. LOL Besides, I don't know where to buy boneless, stackable birds!
I am so glad you all had such a great visit and menu.
Sounds like a wonderful meal. My mouth is watering thinking about the jambalaya, even though I am still stuffed. Jambalaya is one thing that I have eaten that I love, but haven't had it since I was in Alabama, where my brother lives. Hmmmm....gonna have to see if I have a recipe so I can make some this weekend now that you have me thinking about it. LOL
Hoping everyone had a wonderful food-filled holiday.
Joan
have food, will travel :)
Load them boneless birds up and come on to Lagrange.
Lisa, we had good laughs at our table when I tried to describe the tur-duck-en to everyone. They all looked at me in disbelief and started giggling. Of course I went a little too far after they asked how anyone raises these boneless birds and I described the Zero Gravity farm where they crossed them with schmoos (remember Lil Abner comic strip?) and they didn't need any bones to hold them up because they were so light, etc, etc, and we all laughed till we cried while we ate. Now none of us feel very light now, but we won't need to eat till about day after tomorrow. (burp)
A gastronomer's delilght, to be precise?
It sounds like a good time was had by all! But that (those) birds sound downright funny! Thanks for sharing the joy with us.
Actually we were laughing at the table too. I messed up and thought Lisa said "teradactyl" and that's what I told DH it was. He thought they must have strange birds in La. He loves Cajun food, and was in "hog heaven"(er, make that turkey heaven) and kept talking about what wonderful cooks Lisa and Trish are.(he never talks about my cooking that way) We had a wonderful time, the kids all played together, and the food was delicious. The view from Trish's dining room window is the most beautiful view and it was very peacful there. (they wouldn't let me help cook, I think DH had already talked to them)They did let me make the tea. Thanks Dave and Trish for a wonderful day.
Sounds like a good time was had by all. Gee,I hope someone remembered to take pictures.
Do you buy that Tur-duck-en at a store..or do you have to make it yourself..I have visions of trying to debone all those birds ..how on earth do you do it?
Anyway..it sounds like you all had a great time..our Thanksgiving was back in Oct.
starzz, the turducken was prepared by a local butcher. Sometime ago there was a local cheif showing how to debone a turkey. He said to practice on something small, like a cornish hens(all fowls' bone structure is the same) then go larger, like a chicken working your way up to a turkey. It looks really simple, one day i would like to attempt it. You know, when you buy one of those turduckin you are getting pure meat, no bones. So it is a meal to feed a small army.
Coco, I think Dave took a couple of shots of the feast. There was not too much picture taking going on, just pure eating..heheheh
Mary, there was also talk at our table on how turduckens grow. My theroy was that a turkey was walking with a duck close behind it, then a chicken..turkey put on the brakes too fast then the duck rear ended him, then the chicken :) and some crazy cajun saw this and thought....hmmmmmmmm....then of course like all of our dishess we took it a bit more, and plugged it with seafood. Sounded good to me, after all, we did come up with sticking those crawfish in a pot and boiling them...:)

Sounds like a wonderful day ya'll. Glad you cajuns got to come north for a bit. Hope the cool weather wasn't too cool for you guys!
Looks like you had a wonderful time that's great. What more could you ask for good friends and good food all in one place.
I was there, but no one saw the wind sneaking around tasting this and that lol.
It sounds like you guys had a lot of fun, and I hope that you didn't stuff yourselves too much lol.
The deep fried Turkey sounds yummy, and I just love Cheese cake.
Oh Cala I could have used your help here, we had to rent a hall to fit everyone in and guess who they wanted to cook the pot roast, turkey, potato salad, stuffed grilled potatoes, and greens...me!
We had about 200 family members there and that's just the ones that made it.
Of course I was berry, berry proud of the greens because they came from my garden so I had to do a lot of bragging...what can I say I get the big head like Jim every once in a while...but shhhh! don't tell Jim.
I'm so happy you all had a wonderful time. The food sounds wonderful. Enjoy the rest of your time together....vic
Happy to know that you all had a wonderful time!! :o)
