This site slow for me

southeast, NE

Dave or someone,

I am hoping you can help me (computer illiterate). Daves Garden moves extremely slow for me. Some days/times are worse than others. I use Netscape Navigator with Earthlink and it is almost impossible to load Daves Garden on that program because it is so slow. However, I am able to access other internet sites on Netscape without any problems.

I am able to view and load Daves Garden on my Compuserve (my backup server) about 85% of the time. However, at times it is also very slow. On Tuesday night I couldn't Chat because it was so slow. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I also have extremely slow download time, could this be due to Dial up with Earthlink versus Broadband DSL and their interaction with PHP?

I too use Earthlink (mindspring) and Dave's is so slow I can't really participate unless I have a few hours. No other sites are slow....

cable modem! thats what i hear everyday at this house-I bought a newer puter-its fast enough for me. The kidz seem to want the cable modem for downloading songs. Daves seems to be just as fast as anything else i click on.
I think older puters on phone lines seem to be slower than new and cable modem!

no real problems here just with aol

I'm having slowness problems too with Dg and not on other sites and am on Earthlink too... I have a new computer and phone line.

I thought when we became paying members they were going to change to a faster server! I'm still waiting but I guess it just takes time! :)

Hello,

Some people are having slowdowns to DG, and we are upgrading our system as time and resources (money) allow.

One of the first things we did, after going the subscription route, was double the memory in the server. This made a tremendous difference in the performance of the hardware, but did not change anything in the way of bandwidth.

Depending on where in the world or country you are in, you may experience a slowdown on accessing DG, not because of the hardware we are using, but because of the location and capabilities of the company who is hosting our hardware.

One day I hope DG has enough subscribers that I can put the server on a very fast link in Dallas or Atlanta, which has redundant connections to every major hub on the internet, but we're just not there yet. Those kinds of links usually cost over $1,000 a month. Our subscription revenue is nowhere near that, right now, I'm afraid.

We're continuing to work to build our revenue and member base, so hang in there!

Need to get my 2 cents in on this discussion - I'm on AOL DSL (I wouldn't recommend as we are going to switch soon!) but I too have a problem with slowness on Dave's site. Especially when I am changing forums. Sometimes I can't call up a new one and sometimes it takes forever to change. Any advice??????

Well here in England-DG is very fast as is other websites. I use BT Anytime, and have had no problems for a few months.

I use Earthlink and sometimes it's extremely slow, not only here but at other sites as well.

It seems to me this site isn't the problem, the internet traffic in general is. For a non-commercial site, I think this one is a marvel. And I would rather wait on this one than get the alternative instantly. This isn't just a site for someone who lives in an apartment in San Francisco or New Jersey to draw a paycheck, it's a coming together of all the things that happen in the lives of a caring community. When I have problems getting through or navigating, I try whatever I think will work, and if a reasonable delay doesn't produce results, I figure it's fate's way of telling me it's not my turn to enter the information highway, so I find something else to do. It isn't like my survival depends on getting on, even if I do act like it.
