ROFLOL,love the title of this thread, lol' Not this cat' I go after the holidays are over and save $' Don't purchase online, not comfortable with the idea' Since we are in the service industry and our companies don't let us off for Christmas,New Years' or any other holidays,we can't celebrate like most everyone else' We get a few hours for Christmas Eve,then back to work same day' Our Christmas is usually in Jan./Feb' Happy Thanksgiving and remember to DRIVE SAFELY' Sis'
I worked in a mall years ago and I feel for all of the poor salespeople who must endure the next few days.Your feet hurt and everyone wanting something different. Also, every sneeze or cough seems to be right in front of you.I caught every bug that drifted by me...but I still had to work. Now,I refuse to shop at malls unless it is absolutely the last resort. I use small 'mom and pop' businesses and support local independant merchants. So many of them are going out of business because people use the malls. I've been in the mall 2 times in the last 5 years and I'm proud of it!
I am finished with Christmas shopping, so there's no need to go out, but, well, there are sales. How am I supposed to pass up all those wonderful deals? Bargains, galore. :)
It's a thrill to go out and mix and mingle with all those other holiday shoppers. The one thing that makes the difference for me (and I often go with my Daddy)...we aren't in a rush, we have fun and we don't take anything seriously. It gets me in the holiday mood.
We don't stay out long, but just long enough to find a few good deals and enjoy the crisp air, listening to Christmas songs and enjoying watching other shoppers.
Let me repeat this, though....it's all in the attitude. :)
When furbies were the toy of the year-I was in line at 3am I was number #3 and my dh was home in bed-said I was nutz, well at 4am he pulled in. He couldnt sleep worried about me out there all alone-he never figured there were other nutz up at that hour! Hes my sweetie!
This year-ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! No way not for NOTHING!
I cant stand shopping with that MANY people-then there are the collectors, that are after all the free stuff that the stores are giving away...nope not me! Im going to sit home eating pumpkin pie and playin XBox with who's ever home!;]
I'll go!! Who wants to pay?? LOL
Being in retail, I am thrilled to have the day off to sit home with my family. :)
You sound like me Mel...I wouldn't know my way around a mall anymore. I do tend to go to Lowes and Home Depot for certain supplies tho but normally prefer the little stores that are run locally. (such a treat to walk in and everyone knows you and the family and vice versa).
Ruby, you won't catch me anywhere that early! Especially on "THAT" day!
Any other time of the year I would shop at 6 am because I'm a nightshift worker, but definitely not tomorrow. I've done some shopping online because of free shipping offers, but I'm going to try to plan the rest of my shopping when the stores are open and the majority of folks are at work.
I used to love shopping the sales, but noooo more. My tolerance of crowds and lines isn't what it used to be and I'm happy to stay home with DH, thankyouveddymuch. I hope to do a lot of shopping online through eBay!
My friend is an assistant manager at a chain bookstore in the mall, and she said the Saturday before Christmas is waaaaay worse than Black Friday. She works tomorrow 6am-2:30pm, so she'll be leaving just when it gets really busy, anyway. Smart one, that girl! :o)
I was at Krogers this morning picking up oil for my deserts that was bad enough! At 6 am tomorrow I am going to be dreaming about left overs. lol..........Happy thanksgiving everyone. Meems
Im with Horseshoe...Lowes and Home Depot are my favorite hang outs. (of course nursery shopping is included though)
I spend a fortune at those two places. Plus I go to the local feed store for goodies too. I also love the bookstore so I can shop for gardening books. Im not into clothes and fancy jewelery. Im into plants, plants, and more plants......LOL.

I hate malls! Shopping, too! But I will save a little money and go to some garage sales right after Christmas, just for kicks. I do go to the malls or big stores to hear the children's choirs. There is nothing like the sound of children's voices to get me in the mood for the season. I've already started playing the Christmas CDs DIL gave me last year while I was still in hospital from surgery. But rarely have I ever shopped majorly before Christmas. In 1969, the kids and I had saved every penney we could, and we had a grand total of $12 for Christmas. I asked them if they wanted to try to find a few things for Christmas or wait and go to the sales afterward. Their ages ranged from 14 to 1, and the vote for sales was unanimous. We had a riotous good time shopping early the day after Christmas. Tomorrow, I will be shopping for good tee shirts to send to Trish to embroider for me, DD and granddarling.
Well if we are all in agreement that a mall is the last place we would be tomorrow then who the heck are are those shoppers I hear about and see on the 6 o'clock new's????? They must all be gardenweb members I guess!!! (hehehe)

If I can get to Farm and Fleet, between 7-9AM, going to run in and register for the new truck they are giving away and then run back home, the craft sale is next week. Sure could use the new truck.
I would be there if I were able to drive. I think it is fun even if you don't buy much.
I only do it to support my country! Shop, shop, shop it's the American way!
ruby42, good one!
I have never understood the attraction to shopping the day after Thanksgiving. We don't have sales around here on that day, other than the cow sale. I can't think of anyone on my list that would want a cow, so that's out. Every place in town is jam packed full of people buying things at the same price they can buy them at next week. So, that's when I'm shopping, next week. Or the week after! LOL
Joan
JoanJ, I would love to have a cow! One I could milk so I could have real buttermilk and fresh milk, you know. So if you see any good deals on cows at the sale, get me one or two, would you? I miss cows, I grew up with them.
No Shopping for me today either. Heard on this mornings news that people have been in line since 4a.m. I can't stand the crowds. I've already done all my Christmas shopping, all I need to buy is the wrapping paper and bows.
DH has gone to get our Christmas trees from the grower in N.C. so I will be at the green house watering the poinsettias.
I think people go to the malls to walk off all the turkey and pie they ate yesterday!!
You couldn't pay me enough go go shopping today.
I don't mind shopping, but I don't like all the hussle/bussle,pushing, shoving, grabbing, well you got the picture.
I fthis year hadn't been so tight I would have had all my shopping done by now and even wrapped.
But this year we told our families we would not be doing Christmas this year.
We plan on buying for our grils but it will only be practical things this year with only one toy.
The girls are still young and are not to the stage of wanting everything under the sun. Plus they have so much already.
This will be a more home made Christmas this year, I plan on baking for the families and if time allows I will paint them something.
We decide to keep things simple this year as we are not sure how this war thing will play out, so we are holding our monies (what little we have) back.
We will not be doing much in the way of true shopping this year. And for the most part we are done.
You won't catch me shopping today either.Same here Cala they have been lined up at Wal-mart and K-mart since 4 this morning. NO bargain is worth all that.
Made my morning JoanJ...I'm still cracking up imagining a cow under the tree!!!!!!!
Okay, Kathleen, a cow with a bow on it's neck is a bit more than I can imagine! LOL Now, a side of beef on the other hand...... :)
People here were shopping at midnight last night. One local store was having a four day-open the whole time-sale. Whew! Wouldn't want to be there. Many of our stores were opening at 6-7 am. You won't find me there. One year we did go the Friday after, to a big flea market about 30 minutes from here. It was kind of fun, but I can't say I am in a hurry to do it again.
MY DH AND I WENT AT 7:00 TO CIRCUIT CITY TO GET OUR OLDEST DAUGHTER A COMPUTOR! OH THE HUMANITY! BUT IT WAS A GOOD PRICE AND THEY STILL HAD A FEW LEFT! MY DH WAS STUNNED. I USE TO GO YEARS AGO WITH A FRIEND BUT IT WAS NEVER LIKE THIS!
I couldn't go shopping today even if I wanted... the street to the mall is one HUGE traffic jam! I'm like MikePiper... Christmas will be lean this year, but also like Calalily: I have done most of my shopping already. I cannot imagine the stress of those crowds shopping today.
The Day after Turkey is no time to shop
But many people will get up and hop
Off to the malls they will rush with glee
Eagre to go on a shopping spree.
The parking lot is full and there's no place to park
Some cars will be circling till long after dark
For this workaholic I've discovered a perk.
I can't go shopping cause I'm going to work!
I dont like the huge crowds in the stores today. I hate waiting in line. Plus I dont have enough money to shop either. My family will have a lean Christmas too. This year will be the leanest so far! I told my kids they would have to wait for spring to get their bicycles. My son had his stolen not long after I bought one for his birthday. I cannot believe how awful some people are...stealing a kid's bike. But, he did leave it out. So it was my son's fault. My daughter has a bike...but it needs repairs. Repairs cost too much here. I took my ten speed to a local shop 3 years ago. It cost me 75 dollars to get a new wheel, and tire. If I had of known that before I got the bill...I would have said forget it I will go buy a new mountain bike. HAHA. Well, now I cant ride bikes so it doesnt matter to me. Where I live it is dangerous to ride anyway. I live on a cut-thru and people arent looking for kids. They think it is the Autoban or something. Hope I spelled that right...
Christmas is for more than gifts anyway. Jesus is the reason for the season...not presents!
So, did anybody find the deal of the century??? My sis, the shopaholic of the family hit the mall's today. Trunk was filled with bags (I babysat for my niece) but she found no real bargan's.
She said the place was packed with wild and crazy shoppers!
I still think shopping x-mas eve is the most fun!!!!

I had not planned to go out today, but got bored and decided to go to Target about 2 o'clock....There were plenty of parking spaces and the store wasn't crowded,UNTIL....I got near the toy section. Needless to say I didn't hang around that part of the store. When I did check out there was only one person ahead of me. So, instead of trying to make it to the store when it opens, you might be better off(if you intend to go out)waiting till the afternoon. You won't get those special prices that end at eleven, but the extra savings you get isn't worth the hassle.
On our evening news they said the lines at the checkout in some stores were 2 hours long. I don't think I would wait that long to give someone my money. I would shop later or somewhere else, no amount of saving is worth standing that long in line.
Yea Cala, they would have to pay me to stand in line for 2 hour's! (and give me my items free too)

Ruby42...Christmas Eve is great..but not for presents for kids. Because the ones they want are for sure gone. I hate rushing around, and stressing out over it. I prefer to get it done early....and enjoy the season. My grandma used to not shop until Christmas Eve. I would lose my mind if I had to do all my shopping in one day.....ROTFL. I have to find just the right thing....take my time. Most people couldnt handle that, and shop with me. This year I am going to be shopping later than normal. But, I wont wait until the last minute. I already mostly know what to get my kids. My daughter wants an aquarium. My son is getting fishing supplies, rock tumbler, and archery set. They will like that... she wanted an aquarium set up today. I said NO way. Kids now are spoiled. They think cause their friend's mama can get stuff that day....they can. She wanted me to buy her that for nothing. Then Christmas she wanted something else. I was in awe of her at that moment. My kids certainly get more by a mile than I ever got as a child.
Well, DH and I did what we said we wouldn't do. We did go shopping today. But not the cow sale, sorry Aimee! Although a cow with a bow around it's neck is kinda funny daltongirl! Someday I might try that.
We had to take our 20 year old daughter in to register for next semester at the local college. She recently moved home from South Dakota and is switching to a local college.
We went to Walmart to buy a humidifier, as we are all waking up with dry and sore throats. Coming out of Walmart, the parking lot is crowded with people and lots of little kids. A teenager came racing around the corner and almost ran us over as well as the lady in the same parking lane but on the other side. I don't think he seen any of us, as he was focused on the open parking space in the next lane. We commented on it and so did she. We worried about the kids driving and what would have happened if someone's toddler would have broke loose from the parents and run out in front of him. He wouldn't have seen the child, much less been able to stop if he had. We have teenagers too, and if ours were driving like that, we would want someone to tell us. So, when we got home, DH called his Mom, (we got the license plate) and he told her what happened and that if it were OUR child, we would hope that someone would tell us so we could have a talk with them before he hit someone and we ended up in a lawsuit. The Mom was very polite and said she would talk with him. I hope we didn't make any enemies over it, but as a Mom, I would want to know if my child was driving like this. I'm hoping she feels the same way.
Joan (who's hoping we did the right thing today)
Joan, you definitely did the right and only thing. If it makes enemies, so be it, that's their problem. If you read in the paper tomorrow that the kid hit someone, you would be wishing you had done something. I so wish more people would be as helpful. And I hope that mom appreciates your taking the time to call, and that she has a serious talk with her son. He needs to be forced to display one of those signs that says "How's my driving? Call ...."
