(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Oh my, things are really growing Kitt! Ju , you've got stuff germinating all over the place. I'm not letting those ones slip by; do you care to share some names? Curious minds want to know!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Hiya Robin
1 is Walking onion
2 are lupine or Delphinium ,
3 are Hemerocallis
4 is a Bok choi
5 Brussel sprout

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

qDebra, I am so sorry, I dropped your hand along the way. Yes, I know Robin, I am always apologizing for something aren't I? Well, I only say I'm sorry when I really mean it. I feel bad when people get lost and it is so frustrating. Been there done that. So, I know the feeling. Not fun. I think we all know the feeling.

Kitt, those little guys aren't going to be little very long. Last we saw them they didn't even have their eyes open, now look at them!!

JU, your weather must be better than you say, I am going to try to start some seeds, think I will work on those Pansy seeds I mentioned last year and didn't do them. They would like the cooler weather I think. They are Wave Pansies. Suppose to be like the Wave Petunias.

Well, you all, I am going over to the Back Porch. Started over there but got interrupted by this one. Saw all your posts on here so had to stop. Glad I did. Saw all your pictures. jen

Thanks Ju, that Bok choi looks like a cool seedling.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I agree with Robin. It would be cool just to have that cool Bok Choy in a planter on my desk LOL

I keep telling you about my little sprouts, some day I'll get some pics. I just dug up a three yr old black locust out of the fence line, now I see a black locust seed I planted is up about 6 inches tall downstairs. Good Grief! LOL anyone want a lil baby black locust tree? The other one is going to it's slow death laying on the garage floor waiting to be cut up.
WOW Kitt, is it warm there? Love all your green growing and those pups are adorable.
Ju, as always your thumb is green with success.
I threw out seeds from anyone who has sent me any all over the already existing garden beds, and then snuck a few "dry" soil seeds in front of the west facing back of the house. ( where I just took out all my stuff) It seems a few lilys are still there and peeking thru, so I told Joe anything that survives and shows up is staying there. We will see what I can sneak into that yukky clay. HMMPF!
1. Clematis sweet autumn.. on it's way to virginia.

Deb, what is that begonia in number 4? Very pretty. You don't put those outside in your area do you? What is that weird tool on top of it? Never seen one of those before.

That soil in number 3, is that what you have now after they are done out there? It doesn't look like clay. Looks pretty good to me???

Is that the Black Locust on the first picture? Looks pretty healthy to me. Started by itself? jen

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi, Jen, the soil is clay, trust me, it took me 15 years to dig it out and amend it and they dug that out and put new clay back in. ugh. The baby lilac(Pic 3) is in a rectangle container setting off the edge of the new patio.
Don Miller is the name of the begonia and was sent to me from a nice lady here in DG, it was just a sprig, now it is all over in a basket, I just carry it in and out every year. The coleus was a snip piece I stuck in the basket in November, it is pretty big now. You are seeing the top of the basket hanger in that photo, no tool in there. First pic is a sweet autumn clematis I dug out, it was a rogue plant from a wind blown seed from the other side of the yard. I'll get a pic of the baby black locust in a bit for you.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

but wait, what kind of greens? Oh I love greens for salad.. You know Ju, I never did get my cuttings from my son of forsythia, should I get them now while they are blooming or wait until they are putting out leaves, I think I can sneak one into the clay at the north end of the house facing west. all the trees are in bloom or about to, Joe is worried we will loose pears if it drops down to 29 as they are saying, but every year it does this and we still get pears. not that I ever get any, the tree rats eat them .
1. turtle area garden
2. stictocardia in bud, it is a tropical morning glory called Hawaiian sunset or something like that. This is from a cutting ..
3. yellow passion vine going crazy..
4. bulb and root tub is awake
5. basket plant from cuttings and other cuttings
good thing I can still play inside.. too muddy to go outside. :P

Debra, talk about being industrious and showing all the plants you started from cuttings etc. You're no scofflaw yourself. Wish I had half of your energy, and half of JU's energy. Wow, then I would have a whole energy wouldn't I? LOL, I would like that. jen

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

5 years ago, I couldn't make a cutting , but learned here it can be done. I just kept trying and trying, finally some progress. One fall, I bagged up a bunch of stems and roots, forgot about them, left them in the garage, the bag was a heavy orange bag that feed came in, anyway, I opened it up in early spring cuz I forgot what it was, and everything was growing making leaves and stuff. I had no idea what it all was, but it was fun planting it all. now I have a tub full of my west garden stuffs, look at it now.. 3 weeks ago it was all roots and bulbs and stems.. I'm tempted to just poke holes in the bottom and have my son bring it to the patio out back to keep growing and see what pops up.. LOL I guess that black locust tree didn't get chopped up today.. it is sitting in the button bush tub.. ( 2nd pic) boy what a mess!

Cutting of forsythia I don't really know , Granny use to at their first leaves , Me I try dormant or bending the stems to earth , Usually mid summer and a few weeks to root , and you know , Messes are what make life worth living !!!LOL I am really worthy and living this time of year ,, lol

and Jen .. energy Thing ? you would never sleep , ever again ,,, lol

Debra I will get some seeds of Holland greens if there good and a few mustards to you , if your really interested , after I plant a few more I will save some for you ,
Have to see what grows ,
A minascule as in tiny worm hardly big enough to see ate most of mimulus seedlings . I still have some ,, but the darn bugs are into everything , I killed two Mosquitoes tonight ,, yuck ,, there Back , lol

Debra, I looked at that Lilac cutting you talked about, it is beautiful. Wonderful healthy leaves. Very nice. I sent a couple of rooted starts to a guy in Seattle area about 3 years or so ago. Not sure if they ever bloomed etc. I don't know if he is still on here. Probably, Rick Corey? Everybody knows him. I should write and ask him. They were off of my sister's bush. Old fashioned white ones. I love the smell of those old ones. But, sure wish I could get cuttings to take like yours obviously did. I do think it depends on the time of year. JU, didn't you say you do them in the winter when dormant? Does that work for you? Jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Jen when I do I try several winter cuttings , I am not good at that or grafting ,
If nice tomorrow I will be back with photo of flower seedlings , I have 100's from wintersow when I looked today ,,

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

JU, I know what you mean about having 100s from wintersowing. And that is no exaggerating. I love to see those little seedlings, but I just cannot get down and plant them. So, I am going to grow stuff that I can direct so in between my perennial bed for color in the summer. Most are annuals but some are perennials too. Some poppies etc., zinnias, Rudbeckias, just all kinds of stuff.Obedient plants which I think are perennials, but doubt if they will bloom this summer. Maybe next.

Well, must get busy will talk to you all again later. Jen

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

One other thing before I forget it, Deb are you talking about that tree in the black tub? You mean you started that? It is a Black Locust? Wow, you did good. Yes, you are good at propagating. Both, you and JU. ttyl, jen

well you seem to be doing pretty well Ju. Got a box from Debra, got everything in a pot. No one ever send me a lilac. I tried one once, brought it from New Mexico. Too hot here, dwindled within 2 years.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Gypsi ,, Debra does nice !!! Hi all , Those above ,, seeds from Debra Mostly ,, Thank you Bunches !!! Debra !!!

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Wow JU, if you get half of those seedlings planted you will have a beautiful garden this year. Think I know which ones are onions. LOL, looking good. Well, that's too bad you can't grow lilacs Gypsi. I love them. They are beautiful and smell so good. What is the problem? Too hot there? Or the fact that it doesn't get cold in the winter? I do think they need a period of cold. Don't know if that is what would stop them tho.

I haven't heard from Sharon guys, but don't know whether to call her or send her an email. Maybe that would be best. an email. Might find out where she is anyway. Wonder if she is able to hold her phone? Guess I will find out if I don't get any response. ttyl,

Fort Worth, TX

I do not know why I can't grow lilacs, I just know I loved them when I spent a winter and spring in New Mexico and I brought one home, and the pink queen elizabeth rose near it lived but the lilac dwindled and died, perhaps the lack of a solid cold winter was the problem. Still have the rose bush. It is an antique I started from a cutting from my neighbors a few months before her husband managed to kill it off, 20 years ago. I was able to plant her a new one from a cutting in a different spot the following winter, and bring a couple out here too.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I have tried everything in the book and from the web and from DG and still have never got a rose to root and take from a cutting. I had to dig up my yellow mini rose cuz it was getting choked out by vines, so I dug a home in the clay bed and set it down with the crown above and the only root on it was a ta root going sideways cuz it didn't get enough water I guess. anyway, here is hoping I didn't kill it, The longest new branch on it was broke off and hanging with a good hardwood nub on the end so I stuck it deep in a rooting tub out back, we will see.transplanted a bunch of cardinal flower babies over to that area in front of the vines, and mixed them with wine colored monarda cuttings. there are a ton of milkweeds, obedient plant and blooming variegated vinca vine. I'll add a few lilys and some tropicals and it will be pretty.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Lilacs do great north of Red River abt 50miles. We have to settle for Prussian lilacs in most of Tx. I love them, too.
Rose cuttings- have you tried using a potato to root it? No, I havent tried it, but I havent tried rooting roses from cuttings.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Yeal Kitt, I tried the potato.. I am hoping this stick Got in will take, we wil see. Got down to 29 last night. BRRRR Baby!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

yes that was a cold one , I am still waiting fffffffor it to wwwwarm up (in 40's now)
Some sunchoke tubers I am dddddigging Cold hands ,, lol My fingers are stuttering ,,

Thumbnail by juhur7
Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well Gypsi, you'll have to teach Debra how to root a rose cutting. You must do pretty good with them. There was a woman on here a few years back that demonstrated how to grow roses from cuttings and I did cut and paste it in my computer, but since then have changed computers and lost a lot, but will see if I have it, and also try to remember her name. Bet she could help you Debra.

You would think that lilac would have done good /gypsi, I think they and roses like the same kind of soil don't they? It might have been no winter. I will see if I can find "Seedpicker"s demonstration, That is who did that. Bet JU remembers her too.
