Wow, Kit, you are right about the bumbles liking the salvia! I have one blue something salvia that has grown huge & I just stay away from that area during the day. I got stung by a little honeybee as a small child & have been very afraid of stinging insects since then. But I have been working on it. I don't automatically run away screaming at the top of my lungs anymore!
Hello Everybody!! Are you still here?
Gorgeous bed Carla, you are one lucky lady.
I've moved from Houston to Ocean Shores, Wa. Tough to try to figure out what grows here and not many gardeners in the area. The Pacific Northwest forum isn't nearly as active as the Texas one. I'm just now trying to find my way around. I miss my Texas gardening buddies, but not the heat :)
Crowelli- ck for PNW on the propagating forum- several of us are prone to wandering around the world, chuckl
Kitt beat me to it, you have neighbors in the propagation thread and on the back porch.
Crowllii so sorry you moved, but you still can talk to us once in a while.
I wish you the best.
There's a business called The Desert Northwest that I bought some bottlebrush baby bushes from. I'm not sure where they're located but the guy who runs it is a plant addict, like some people I know...😜 If you're at all close, you could check them out. He carries lots of plants I had no idea would grow around there--like Australian plants.
Has anyone seen hummingbirds yet this year? Spring was early but I haven't seen one yet and I have plenty of salvias blooming.
saw my first hummer last Thursday visiting my honeysuckle vine, female. She was too fast for a good id
I havent seen any hummers either. Tons of butterflies but no hummers.
I saw hummers in Feb in Houston Garden Centers, but none came thru to stay at the house- may have been the rains that soaked Houston...
We got rain already this morning which was earlier than expected, bracing for lots more tonight and Monday. No gardening today.
Pulled geranium pots to front porch, going to try propagating today. Will move a couple of shrubs, up-pot others if I can get gaps in rain
Glad you asked about hummers. None in W. Houston that I've seen. Thought my blooming aloe would attract them...
I have seen exactly ONE butterfly this year so far, a red admiral on my blackberry bush yesterday. I have all kinds of self-sown dill in my garden and no eggs or cats. Maybe because we were warm and then cool?? We've picked up 2" of rain today with more on the rain. We're in a lull right now and the neighbor's outside cat is now in my sunroom, safe from any more rain.
Glad I am not in Colorado! That 'rain' got nasty! Watching sundown from east of S. Chicago, hit 78* across Ind today. Tried to sign in at lunch and couldn't, so am looking for more DG changes, chuckl.
The hummers have arrived here and have seen one yellow swallowtail so far.
I have tiger swallowtails up here already. Well at least one.
I'm not sure what type of butterflies I have here but I see them flying everywhere. I live very rural so I might just have a better chance of seeing them.
Everyone safe from flooding? Anyone other than Rouxcrew and I caught in these rains?
I'm good. Part of my neighborhood sits low but I am in the 500 year floodplain, plus Fort Worth hasn't been flooded yet
Gymgirl lives down near Hobby. I've been thinking abt her think I'll try dmail.
Not sure if power is on down there yet- downtown usually gets hit hard, but she's farther south a bit. I know Rouxcrew is catching new lambs and carp in her pastures right now...hang in there Gymgirl!
I dmailed Linda and she replied that she's OK but more rain in the future.
Edit duplicate post. I have no idea how that happened.

I'm good. I've been worried about the folks down near Houston. I saw that Joy (rouxcrew) had a new baby lamb born in the midst of the rain.
I saw my first hummer today it was on my blue mealy sage.
Just posted in another section that I saw a hummer in Fredericksburg. We stayed at Mark's friends home in town. I also could not believe the symphony of doves ALL DAY!! Is it mating season or what?!
That's funny. I get so used to the doves I don't even hear them anymore. I have a retailed hawk sitting on the round bale of hay ever so often it flies to the ground and picks something up. Must have mice/rats. It is really cool to see.
Red tails are pretty. Cool mornings, and I love the mourning doves and whippoorwills- even the rain frogs- justdont get to hear them often.
had a hummer on the honeysuckle vine again today.
I saw a hummingbird around my Betony...I was so thrilled too!!!!
Finally saw a couple of hummingbirds in the yard. Went to a picnic at my boss's house in the country. He had tons!
Hummingbirds here too.
It is early for me. Normally I see the first hummers when my Turks Cup starts to bloom!
this is the first year of bloom for my honeysuckle (a coral/japanese cross according to Lowes, one of my about to freeze bargains from a couple of years ago), and that is where I have seen the hummers. Normally I don't see them til the turks cap or lantana start blooming
Lost all my watched threads with the latest "update"Trying to get it jump started
I too lost my threads & now have to wade through pages to keep updates...whatever happened to adding new threads! hahahaha
seems to be a non stop battle on here. I just watch a few forums, that helps.
Mine have come back. I know there was a patch installed to help something or other that wiped out the watched threads box, but it seems to be back.
