Lost Post Workaround Dec 2015

Since the recent changes to the formats here there have been a number of people who have lost their posts. While some reasons for this are known to Admin and techs, it remains hard to pin down.

Terry Admin wrote:
This has long been an issue, and the reason we've wrestled with it is related to the security of the site, and some safeguards in place to stop a hacker from placing a virus in their post. (Beyond that, I can't give you a more technical reason, but in a nutshell, that's why we've had problems with backslashes and disappearing posts in the past, as the system is "stripping" out anything it perceives as a potential snippet of code.) The solution may be to loosen up and allow more characters, but in the meantime, if we can pinpoint exactly which characters are causing this issue, that will help you, because you can try to avoid them, and help the techs know which one(s) are causing problems.

In my next post I will outline a Workaround that works for me. HTH while the techs are working on it.

Hit Preview Post
If your message appears at the top of the Preview page and in the Edit Message box, your post is good to go and can be sent by clicking on Post Reply

If your message only appears at the top of the Preview Page and the Edit Message box is empty, you must use your browser back button to return to your original post.

Back at your original post you can look for those elusive characters that are preventing your post from posting and remove them one by one and hitting Preview until your reworked message appears in both places on the Preview Page. When it does it can be sent.

OR
Once you are back at original post, just copy it as is, hit Preview button and then paste it in to empty Edit Post box and click on Post Reply.

Really? We must now carefully search for elusive characters before a post becomes acceptable?

This is an electronically sophisticated world. People use desktops, laptops, cell phones and tablets. Surely that must have occurred to those doing the makeover of this site. Sheesh.

June, That's the beauty of this Workaround, we can have our posts and sent them too without having to wade into the weeds to find the needle in the haystack or wait for our electronically sophisticated techs to find it themselves!

Just copy and paste if you ever encounter a lost post scenarip like you did recently.

By the way, my DD is involved in animal rescue, too. Here is a pic of her latest foster dogs to brighten your day!

Coleup - My point is that you CANNOT copy, paste and repost until you have identified and eliminated unacceptable characters.

I love anyone who has the courage and the heart to participate in animal rescues. It is not always without horror and sadness. Those who foster are true angels and change life forever for an animal in need. I'd put an exclamation after that sentence but that might be a naughty character.

My husband, by the way, is an electronically sophisticated tech. He has created large sites for corporations and never had such problems as we are seeing here. It is as it is and hopefully will get past the point of being time-consuming and frustrating for users.
