Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I believe the seeds are red also , neighbor had a white one on the fence line yhat got cut down before this seed stash hand could get them .

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Oh my Debra, I just collected the White Snowberry seeds, I have four germinating as we speak. I must have some of the Red! Would you like some White? Ju, would you also?

Debra , is the double flowering Ditch Lily as aggressive as the single flower?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Robin, yes I would love the white, I think I have a started cuting outside of the red as well as berries, and my double /triple ditch lillies do not spread as much as the wild ones. let me know of ANYTHING you'd like from me, please!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Today organizing , changing furnace filters , back to plants , Only ones I have correct in a big bag of tree and shrub seeds , Hackberry and Spicebush ,
Acorns , buckeyes , sycamore , All kinds of seeds , from giant through pellitory , I won't get to them all , I will try though . lol
Nice offer Robin , Sure I will try a few , if your keeping seeds for DG ,and you have any Lupines I would like to try them I have lost mine after 5 or 6 yrs of them

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

I'll check to see if I have Lupines Ju, it doesn't ring a bell. Debra, what about the red, I think they're Tiger Lilies, do they spread like the wild ones too? Does anybody want some Ditch Lilies, if you have the room, they get about 6' tall and would look great in a giant swath at the back of a border. They seem to bloom for an extended amount of time too in early summer. Let me know with a Dmail.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Got nothing done , getting cool out now , 34 the latest forecast for tonight ,
probably be Monday before I get back outside in the garden , cold weekend , , so I guess I do not have a reason not to clean seeds ,

Ju I'll send you and Debra some Snowberry seeds. It's going down to 32 here tonight...brrr.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I checked the plant file too Robin, those are so pretty. Your white and Debra's red. My problem is that I have so many of the native trees that the nice ornamental trees would not stand out like they should.

Great that you guys can share your seeds with each other. Jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

About 3/4 th of the seeds , 2x2 baggies in a 3x5 from here , until I get some more baggies lol
Lot of tradition plant seeds
Came back , yes redundant I am ,, but it is pre- planning chat for a sometimes interesting ,

I agree Jen, wouldn't they look so good together? I also think it's pretty special to trade seeds, what a wonderful forum this is for gardeners. There are some truly special people too.

Ju, traditionals are the backbones of the garden, not many would do without them.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

We all appreciate you also Robin !!! When a good thing is good ,it is really Great !!! lol

Tomorrow a few tomatoes and a few petunia and cucumber seeds , traditional ,, lol
it's an obsession lately ,lol

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Aw, thanks Ju. I raise my coffee mug to obsessions...well, good ones like this anyway.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Tonight I cleaned Gaura seeds, obedient seeds, more morning glory ( japanese) , sprinkled cinnamon on all the baskets of drying flower heads and made up packets for DG'rs. Lovely while watching the Royals win the game.. can't believe I am off this weekend, going to do some digging, planting and trimming while I can, and get the few tropicals in, all in a day, plus we are cutting down a very tall male mulberry tree off the roof.. *sigh*
Robin, which red day lilly? I do have some tiger lillies but they are orange and spotted..

getting everyone a huge pack of seeds to "play" with this winter.. here are my day lillies I can send baby plants of right now..

I have a gaura. Where would I look for the seeds?

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

I must have misunderstood about the Red Tiger lilies Debra, I have some Orange spotted seeds I'm going to try and germinate.

Go Royals!

Your Double looks good, here's my single Hemerocallis fulva...

Sorry Gypsi, guess nobody is on here to answer you and I am not sure. I am sure they look a lot like delphinium seeds if you know where those are. Think that's right. >SMILE< Sorry, not much help. Probably JU will be on here when he finishes his nap, and he will tell you. LOL, I would wake him up but it is quite a ways from Washington state to Indiana. By the time my shaking gets there it is all shook out. Jen

I know somewhere there is a fertile flower on my gaura as I keep bees, I will give the plant a once over today. I was supposed to do a lot of driving but my daughter has to work so that trip will wait for another day. Have enough to do here, going to plant my ace hardware perennials and chase seeds on my gaura. Do you know how to divide one btw? Mine has tripled in size over the last couple of years. and the turks cap next to it has become a giant. And my peonies need planted but the east bed needs a cleanout.

No rush on answers, I have plenty to do Thank you though

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

I'm sure you read that I couldn't find the seeds on my Guara, up about 50 posts. Generally to divide a perennial you'd dig up the whole root ball and take apart the plant by hand or, if it's a mass of roots divide it with a very sharp spade or knife.

What I do is use a garden fork and dig all around the plant, lifting and loosening as I go. Doing it this way gives me more roots and less soil. Sometimes I have to make a couple of passes, going deeper, especially in the center.

Others gardeners will probably give an alternate way of doing things, you just pick whatever way you feel best about and what works best for you. Have fun

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Supposedly a long tap root plant , (gaura) but I can hardly grow it so far , so I do not know , lol mine was the bride , from commercial seeds ,
Zinnia Tomato and a few milkweed seeds , then I call it quits a few days doing the seeds .
little warmer today ,
My garden soil is worn out , next season , some bucket growing of the Tomatoes ,back in a while

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Here at lunch time (orangeglo) , A few helianthus tuberosa seeds and roots also at that time
I dont usually get seeds from these sunchokes

One of my customers was throwing the gaura out, along with a really nice fancy spirea bush, they are planted side by side at my house, so I have no idea what kind the gaura really is or if it casts seed. I lost one of the spireas, there were 2, before the heat went down and I was able to plant, a couple of years ago.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

The Guara was not hard to start from seed , Me taking proper care of the seedlings was the only problem ,
seen a few Spirea around here , not many ,
I will be trying more Guara and anemone ,
Bees and blooms !!!

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Oh man, I lost my post.

No, you don't have to dig up the root ball. Don't you have a hori hori knife? Best garden tool they ever made. It is serrated on one side so you can use it like a saw and just decide where you want to divide, or take a piece off of the root and saw it off. Straight down into the soil. Then just take out the piece you want. You can do the same thing to divide it so you don't have to set the plant back by taking the whole root out.

I use it the same way when I want to refresh soil in a container plant and use the same pot for the same plant. Just cut all 4 sides off of the plant, as much of the root as you want to take away from it, take the plant out and cut some off the bottom of the rootball. Then repot the plant with new soil mix. jen

Fort Worth, TX

Me taking proper care of seedlings is a big challenge, I do most of my work for pay spring and fall when seedlings tend to need started. Long days and not much daylight at home. I'm off for taxes bookkeeping and truck repairs at the moment

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

I need a Hori Hori knife...see why I like to hang out with you Jen?

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Lost 2 posts here already. Maybe I was not meant to say this. But Mipii, I think if you get one you will love it. A lot of people don't want to put the $ out for them, around $27 and $6 for the sheath to keep it in. That really isn't a must have, but nice to have it to keep the knife in.

I have gotten some as gifts because I know how useful they are. Once you have one for a season Mipii you will agree. I use mine pretty much year around because I have a lot of houseplants and I divide, repot etc. in the winter. May not be the right season for them, but if that is the time I feel like doing it, that is when it gets done. But, use my knife for that. I keep it in a basket in my dining room. LOL, I do.

Well, this is the 3rd time I have tried to write this so going to hang it up before I lose this one too. jen

Hi there, the Gaura seeds are a grooved oval capsule. I cut mine back since it grows to 7 ft out on the south east garden, It is in full bloom again, I also have a Knife, love it to divide and cut around pants with. Got some chicory roots planted, the compost gave me 3 huge wagons of good rich compost, so we threw that all around the flower beds, mine is red clay around here.
Rosemary chopped the front barberry bushes for me, then I spread those cuttings around all the gardens, pots and fences out and inside to keep the cats out. ( Squirrels, too)
Got the hug agave out of it's spot and it is ready to put in a fresh pot and new soil, brought in the brug from the front, filled all the holes in the garden beds with compost, trimmed the clematis honeysuckle and virgina creepers, collected more seed heads, made a stirfry, and I am done.
( for the day)

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Sounds like a bunch Debra .
Get any Penstemon planted (lol )
Takes a minute sometimes
I did a few light chores and crammed a medium envelope with seed head bags ,

oops , I use a Sawsall lol

got those planted too, Ju, sending you some monarda to get started, don't know if it is the red, wine or pink.. sorry.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Monarda sounds great !!! Debra , We all do more than we say . a bit of humor ,lol
Got a few more plants planted , Hope those grow for you , With the seeds and sprigs of those a few chicory you should have ,
I believe I have a smaller one (chicory) next to Petunia,, seed from both fell from older plants this summer and germinated in a pot on their own , . the non growing , growing everywhere thing ,lol

Fort Worth, TX

Do you think Penstemon would grow in North Texas? I know a lot of things won't, have tried lupines and stuff and yeah that was a waste of money, half of what michigan bulb sells won't grow here. But penstemon? Monarda does.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Don't know who, might have been Debra gave me some Raspberry Monarda seeds., I already had some growing so still have the seeds if someone would like them.

I think Debra was telling you guys all the stuff she was getting done with her hori hori knife. Yes, it is great for all of that. And more too.

A sawsall works too JU. Have used those for a lot of things too, just not gardening things. jen

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

What zone are you in Gypsi? Is North Texas wet or arid (inquiring minds want to know)?

Jen, thanks for your perseverance, although its pretty infuriating to lose one post...you lost three. You're a trooper all right. Thanks so much for the knife info. I could tell just by looking at it how advantageous it would be to own one. Debra has one too? This is the first I've heard of them, I guess I'm out in the cold, or the dark. Well it's both cold and dark in MI right now, I'm hurtin'.

I've been known to pull out the sawsall now and then too Ju. Good tools are expensive monetarily but have payback by making the work quicker and easier.

Debra did you spend the day outside or did you do all that after you put in 8 - 10 hrs at work already? Where did you find the Guara Seeds? In the middle of the flower? Perhaps mine is patented and sterile.

Mmm, stirfry...yum.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Robin, look at these pics, see the pods? they are below the flower bloom pointing up, these are before ripening, I will take pics of the seeds.. I have tons of them, mine are wild pink ones, dmail your information for what you'd like from me.
the only thing left blooming at this time are the morning glorys, blanket flower, marigolds, zinnias, gaura, mums and asters.

Aw Debra, did you just go outside and snap those pics? That was so sweet, thanks!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

this is the second flush , the first one was in July and August. These are covered in Bees all day.

I better get to bed, here are a few of the four o clocks I have seeds and tubers of..
