Thanks, Sallyg.
I was so overjoyed at NOT being in bed, I got a bit zealous, LOL!
FALL/WINTER Gardens 2015 Pt 1
This new website is really confusing ...
The weather here has been so warm. My White icicle radishes are bolting and also a few of my broccoli. I had to harvest them even if smaller.
Lots of lettuce and I also started to harvest some of my cabbages to try to cook and see if I will like them. These were free seeds from baker Creek.
I did pickled all my radishes.
All my peppers plants are alive and I keep harvesting these small spicy red peppers.
Also a lot of Turks Cup seed pods. I hope to have enough to try to make jam this year.
Irises and Daffodils are blooming, making my house smell really good.
Has anyone posted anything on this thread since drthor's last post?
Is this thread updating?
website is super confusing
Taking off for Antarctica !!
I want to let you know that all my pepper plants are alive and they are producing peppers still !!!!
WOW ! Strange weather !
from what im seeing, the threads are still updating, but when you go back to the one you got a notification about, if it has multiple pages, it only drops you off at page 1
jmc- mine is working right, it takes me all the way to new post on whatever page.
we've had a couple cold days, or they feel cold because we've had a mild fall till now. We just had our first freeze, not just touches of frost in open areas.
Be sure to click the "skip to new" link and it'll take you to the last page of the thread.
We've had a bit of cool weather, but nothing substantial. We're in the 60s and 70s this week. Crazy weather!
Hey all. The place sure looks different, but I recognize several old gardening buddies. Hello, drthor, Stephanie, Linda in particular. Glad to see you're still here.
I've barely been out in the garden over the last few months. Long, boring medical story, but I'm about to get back to it -- if I can find all my tools and supplies and remember what the heck to do, lol.
I did buy a few starts for a fall garden - have planted chard, kale, collard, spinach, and a few herbs to replace those that bit the dust over a long, neglected summer. Nothing too exciting, I guess, but it's nice to get back out there.
I also talked my husband into bringing my seed-starting light shelves back into the house. I need to order seeds for a spring garden soon. Guess that's about it from me, but just wanted to check in and tell y'all that I'm still here!
Have a wonderful Christmas, all.
Hey, LiseP!!
Glad you're back in the saddle! It's still not too late for the winter garden, here, LOL!!
Merry Christmas!!
Glad you're feeling better LiseP! I'm thinking about ordering onions and potatoes and also getting ready to start my tomatoes and peppers!
Have a Merry and blessed Christmas everyone!
Glad to see you posting again LisaP.
I can't bare the thought of starting peppers and tomatoes, it seems like it was just summer. Lol My China Rose has a few blooms and I see Foliage for Mexican Hat. Strange weather, but our coldest time is usually Jan. and Feb. We shall see....
Merry Christmas everybody!
Thanks for the welcome back (again). Hi to 1lisac, too I know what you mean about that long hot summer. Still, after my long hiatus, I'm anxious to get going with the next season.
On that note, have you all been getting seed catalogs? I've only received one so far, and I'm getting antsy to order some seeds and get my seedlings started.
I've only received one from Sustainable Seed, but I usually shop online anyway. I'm getting ready to order my onions from Dixondale.
Thanks, Stephanie. I'll order on-line catalogs, too, but I do like to browse through the paper ones first, and am just surprised that I've only received one catalog so far.
I also need to have a sit-down meeting with the seed packets I have from last year and decide what I need to shop for. Maybe I'll do that tonight.
I've been ordering seeds.
I made a spreadsheet a few years ago with all my seeds listed.
I make a copy first part of December & inventory my seeds.
Then I know what to order. If I find a new item, I add it in. If something didn't go well in my garden, I delete it.
I have an organized seed box, too.
Still need to order a few things.
Started Geraniums & seeded some onions yesterday. These are in my seed room in the basement.

I usually order online but I still get catalogs, I'm up to about 7 so far, can't remember which ones off the top of my head. I like to browse thru them too.
I have got so many seeds I'm not ordering anymore for 2016. Lol
I also have most of the seed from last year that i also plan on growing this year, but there are a few new things that im going to give a shot. I will be trying "Golden Bantam" sweet corn, "Greasy grits" pole beans. And a few new flowers / herbs: Catmint, Zinnia "polar bear", dill, and Japanese morning glory. There may be more things later on, but for now i think i have plenty of stuff planned out already.
I have got so many seeds I'm not ordering anymore ... Lol
In the Famous Last Words category...haha
I got Pinetree weeks ago, and no other, yet. I usually get Johnny's too. I love to read about all the things I SHOULD do with all the seeds. And the unusual choices.
So far I've gotten SSE, Totally Tomatoes, Baker Creek Seeds, Gurneys, and Burpess. But since I don't need any seeds.....lol
I guess I just needed to start talking about it -- since posting that I'd only received one catalog (Jung), I've received two more (Burpee and Gurney's). So I'll likely get a couple others soon.
CountryGardens, you are so organized. You are inspiring me to get my act together!
1lisac, I'm tempted to say, "you're not fooling anyone!" with your resolve to buy no new seeds, but maybe you have more willpower and confidence than I do. lol.
I am always tempted by a few new varieties, and also worried about running out or maybe that my seeds are getting old and won't come up, so I always buy at least some new seeds.
Well, off to meet the day.
I have sooo many seeds I don't know where Id put anymore...but if I see something I can't live without....I have packets that have never been opened.
ooh, look at all those maters!
Hola from amazing Uruguay !!
Coming home soon ! I need to start my tomato seeds. I think my selected date is january 9th.
this year im going to wait until march 1st, i tried starting them in early Feb. last year and by the time the safe planting date arrived they had almost gotten too big to manage indoors, lol.
As usual I will follow my M. Thun calendar.
It has worked every year for me !!
I cannot wait !
I will plant out sometime in April. It has worked every year, for the last 20+ for me. I have tried planting out earlier but I only got fruit about a week earlier and it was sooo much more work. I live very rural and it gets much colder here then in Austin.
I should've dropped tomato seeds YESTERDAY, LOL!!
Still shooting for transplanting out the 2nd weekend in Feb. I'm burning daylight!
What a surprise to come home to my dear garden and find such a bounty !
Also my pepper plants are still alive ??$$%%##@@
I am harvesting lots of lettuce of all kind. My broccoli don't have very large heads, but they are still very good. Actually I love the small florets much better than the larger heads.
I found a few red peppers.
All my Fennel plants are alive and they are starting to make very large heads. I started to harvest my fennel. I ate the bulb and made delicious soup with the upper part.
Lots of radishes still available.
The cabbages are doing great (free seeds from Baker Creek). I am harvesting and cooking them. So good.
Last Saturday I started my tomato seeds. The planting date is late this year: around February 21st.
I did harvest all the kale before leaving for my South America adventure, blanched and freeze them. Now they are growing back, but slowly.
Happy gardening !
I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date.
Color me frustrated! I should already have seeds starting in trays but it seems hubby is conspiring to keep me from doing it. Kitchen (where I usually do my seed-starting mess) is torn up for a new floor, so no table and counters are full of other stuff. New carpet almost everywhere else. Shelf unit with my lighting units is dismantled and outside. And literally every day that's been nice enough to work on my seed trays outside has been filled with pulling up kitchen flooring, shopping for tile, and all kinds of honey-do stuff.
I WILL figure out a way to get my seeds started. TODAY and/or TOMORROW. Thanks for listening to my rant. I should be grateful I have a hubby that is willing to do home remodeling and fix-it stuff. And I am. I'm just feeling bad that I have all these new seed packets and they're still unopened. Okay, done complaining. Thanks for listening!
You'll get it done. I have a feeling, could very well be wrong, that we are going to be hit with a "late" winter. It froze here last night. There is never a good time for home improvement projects IMHO.
Woohoo! Scored 300 pounds of sheep & llama manure for my garden!
Wow, where did you get that Stephanie? Jmc, the snow is so pretty. We haven't had any real cold weather yet.....I'll be surprised if we dont get some soon. I still have pepper plants, in containers on the back porch. It hasn't gotten cold enough this yr to kill them.

There's a lady on one of the FB gardening groups whose kids are involved in FFA. The son shows sheep and has started selling it. He also gets some from other friends in his FFA chapter and also their neighbor has a llama farm, so he collects that and sells it as well. They live up in Krum, which is by Denton. I met them in far north Fort Worth.
