Lost & seeking help with PlantFiles

Hendersonville, NC(Zone 7a)

I don't klnow where to post this. I went to Site Help and read the sticky on PlantFiles, but it gave directions on the OLD plantFiles.

With the change to PlantFiles, I don't know how (or even if I still can) search. . . when I have no preferenc3e for a specifric family, genus, specie, cultivar! Advanced search now requires one of them, before selecting specifications.

BEFORE the change, I could search PlantFiles by specifications only, regardcless of taxonomic classification or common nmame. Where I garden, I have to meet height restrictions first; other characteristics (color, bloom time, etc.) is less important and subject to unformed personal fancies. I know this helpful way of searching must still be available, but where??? How???

We are as lost as you are.

We may be able to help if you give us some specifications for your planting restrictions. I live in a neighborhood that has restrictions on height and have managed to find plants that are unusual and fun to fill my space.

What height do you have to stay under? What sort of look are you going for?

Hi Bet- I just tried the Advanced Search function in PlantFiles, without putting in any specifics for genus or species. I clicked on white flowers, then height of both under 6" and 6-12", and then things like zone 7, and outdoor plant. Things I didn't care about I just skipped (acidity of soil, for example.).
The results were odd, but I did get results. It included some plants which are other colors, like purple, however I know there are white cultivars available. The other weird thing was it said there would be 4 pages of result, but when I clicked the next button, I did not get any more results, just some other unrelated stuff popped up.
Give it a try.

There are a few of ways to accomplish this offering various amounts of filtering.

1) On the PlantFiles main page under the Plant Search box it says "More Options". If you click on that link it allows you to do some basic filtering by height, sun, zone, etc.

2) Scroll down beyond "Popular Plants" to "Popular Categories". On the right is a dropdown menu that says "More Categories". Click on that to bring up a whole list, including Annuals, Perennials, Vegetables, Trees and lots more.

4) Once inside the list of whatever category you choose, you'll see another filter. It's on the top, right and it says "Filter Plants by..." (followed by several icons).

These three screen shots might help.
