Famous relatives

Crossville, TN

COUSIN GEORGIAREDCLAY! My SISTERS name was Mary Houck...now it's Kinsley! LOL I'm first cousin to Ginlyn and LizH...so I'm a decendant of Sarah Boone also.

My brother was in a movie with Chuck Norris....Invasion USA....but he was killed off while the first credits were rolling. However Brother Henry did own the boats that were in the film...rented them 4, and sold them 4 more (they had to blow them up), and was the technical adviser for the boat scenes. He had his son, and a young boy that worked for him in the film too. Jo

Well her brother sent me some information and I tried to tie in and am sure we are related. The following families are listed. Some of the people listed I am kin to. William Linville was killed at Linville Falls by Indians and he was married to Ellinor Bryan. Greers, Ida Greer married John Trivette. He has Martha Bryan married to Edward Boone and I am related to her. Not the same as Martha as above. I can't figure out how we are kin but I think we are. I really enjoyed the site he sent me to.
Now ginlyn and roadrunner I know what ya'll look like. The only problem I can't figure out where ya'll are in the picture. 1997 REUNION LOL I guess I'll have another reunion to start attending.

Crossville, TN

Jim....now this will make things "clear as mud". Ginlyn is the sister to LizH's DH...and he is our family's "tracer of bones". My mother was the sister of Ginlyn's Dad....you with me so far?(are we famous yet?). OK...BOTH my grandfathers names were the SAME....but not close enough kin to be counted in a court of law. I see you had a Trivette....My GM, on my Dad's side was a Trivette.

Now that we are into NC things...I met a lady at the VA Hospital in Tucson today, who was from West Jefferson, NC....so have to get Hayse to see if her "bones" fit on our tree! Be careful, Jim....we might end up being "kissing cousins", especailly if you have RAY's in your history! Jo

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Oh no, Or Oh yes one. I have so many Rays I couldn't name them all if I tried. Lets see my aunt married a Ray. His name Lump and thier kids were Thomas, James. Claude, Zebulon and Emma Jean. How much kissing or do I need to keep going with he rest of them?

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I am (believe it or not) related to the Poppin' Fresh Dough Boy. I'm not kidding so don't laugh.

Crossville, TN

OK Honibee...EXPLAIN! That rates up there with being related to GRC! LOL Jo

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I am related tio the Pillsbury Dough Boy also. Hello cousin Honibee. I had a rubber PDB and when my DIL gave birth to our first grandson somehow she carried it in the delivery room with her. Clutched that thing tight the whole time. Once I heard a scream and Debra said it wasn't her so it must have been him. She turned out to be a good child bearer and a good squeezer also. LOL

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

DonnaJo I have been trying to find a site for castles in France for you with out any luck. I find plenty of castles through a travel plan of places to stay. I'll try again later. Jim

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Roadrunner,
I am white, short and round with a soft tummy. LOL

Crossville, TN

Let's me out...unless he comes in a TALL version! LOL Jo

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Ginlyn and roadrunner, I went my to family tree and let FT Maker calulate how kin I was to Sarah Boone and it said I was 2nd cousin, three times removed. So I guess we are kin also. I will put the information in tomorrow that ginlyn brother sent and see how much. By the way are ya'll rich. I have been looking for rich relatives for so long. LOL

Harford County, MD(Zone 6b)

Hey GRC, I'm afraid the only thing I'm rich in is my health so far. (I'm content with that)I came from pretty good genes as most of my relatives lived to their 80's and 90's. Now Roadrunner is rich in wit and humor, which I would love to have, but taking after my DM side,I'm a little more reserved. It's looking more and more like we are related doesn't it...How nice...

Nanaimo, BC(Zone 8b)

Any Cajuns related to Eastern Canadians of Fame ???

Crossville, TN

Ginlyn...I may have been blessed with some WIT, but missed the train when they gave out BRAINS...and can't cook like you do either! I'm really glad to find out GRC is "kin folk" Another "pit stop" when we travel in GA! LOL Jo

Jim is dominating this thread with 14 posts out of 54! Some noteworthy descendant this Jim is!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Sorry Dinu, Didn't know any one was keeping count. I'll try not to dominate as much.

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Georgiaredclay, your postings are fascinating reading. Please, dominate away! How wonderful prain's thread may have reunited long lost cousins!! Genealogy was my biggest obsession for several years, now gardening has taken over to some degree. Both hobbies have introduced me to wonderful people form all over the world. It was the link to Thomas Whiteley (Titanic survivor) which got me started, and he is still the brick wall of all dead ends. (Apparently came to earth as an adult, without benefit of parents, or siblings. Came into my Great-grandmothers life for 8 years, left her with 4 of 5 surviving children, then disappeared again.) John

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Thanks John, I was reading some of the material that roadrunner sent me to my eamil address and I noticed that she had a relative that was one not so lucky on the Titanic. However she didn't mention the name. I thought of you. I have been addicted to genealogy for several years and have gotten away from it some what lately. I am fascinated to read of the family history and the hard times that our ascestors went through making this country what it is today. I wish I had developed this love of history at an earler age. Things I study now I don't retain as I did at an earlier age. Goodluck in your search.

Crossville, TN

John, My Great Uncle's Exwife went down with the titanic! I don't know if they were ever legally divorced or not, but the story is that she left and went to England with some gentleman (??), and was returning on the Titanic and was lost. Jo

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

There's an article of me in local newspaper!! :) Anyway, I think I'm not rlated to anyone famous.. or I don't know ;) My grandfather were building the Espoo station, and Saimaa Canal... :) And my other grandfa figth in war between Finland and russia. And my grandma is in an stomach medicine advertisement...

Nanaimo, BC(Zone 8b)

evert, sounds pretty famous to me, I was in a movie along with my first daughter. It was called Leaving Normal, filmed in ALaska and Stewart BC, Meg Tilly, Christene Ladi, a group new actors and me of course,(small part) lots of fun doing this and money was just an extra. Jack

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Jim, I was certainly not counting your posts with an evil eye. Nor I'm jealous. Go ahead, I'm enjoying all that.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Sorry Dinu, I think I took your posting out of context. I apologize. Jim

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Georgiaredclay and roadrunner: re Titanic Story... I did not mention the tale, but it sounds similar to what you have posted, it was said that Great-grandfather was running away from his wife with the maid, and that he DIED on Titanic. This story was put forth by his wife... and she remarried as a 'widow'. Problem is, that the man in question SURVIVED the sinking of Titanic, and his ex? wife's first child with husband number two was born in 1911. Hmmmmm... Best I can figure is that after he left her, she assumed he was dead, and when she heard ALL the men had died aboard Titanic (as reported in her local paper)she found his name among those aboard. He was actually a dining room steward, and was injured ; thus he spent much time at St. Vincent Hospital, NYC, where he was interviewed and photographed. [I was once told it may have been his bad karma which sank the ship]. John

I've tried and tried, and just can't bring myself to mention all my famous relatives, well, maybe infamous. But when I was a young child, we lived in Memphis one year, and as soon as we arrived, I heard that Minnie Pearl was on a local radio station. I had loved her all my 8 years, and pleaded to meet her. So poor Mama took me to the station, where I met her and talked with her, and then "impressed" her with my imitation of her: Howdeeeee, I'm jis suh praud ta be hyere." She gave me a hat, and a little apron with her name on it, which I foolishly and childishly let get away along the road of life. But I always knew that she was my friend, because she called me hon and darlin, and smiled real sweet. But it never made me famous.

Crossville, TN

Aimee, I knew we had a lot in common! I LOVED Miss Minnie too..She came to our town in WV when I was just 5 years old...and I can still remember the yellow ruffled chiffon dress she wore! Pard....how very interesting...do you think???....naw, couldn't be, could it? What do you say Jim? Uncle was a Trivette. Jo

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

RR, did you also go around imitating her? I do believe she had on a ruffled yellow pinafore over her dress, sort of like a fancy apron, with pockets that also had little ruffles. Her hat was a straw with silk looking flowers, and the requisite price tag, before she went high society with the 1.98, it was, I think $.49. I have often wondered if we were really on the air or if she fooled me. No talent scouts came looking for me, or if they did, Mama lied. Mama always wanted my younger sister to be in show biz, but she wouldn't go to see Minnie Pearl, and later she wouldn't try out for the role in a Butter Krust bread commercial. She had curly hair, mine was wispy straw, and I swear Mama liked her better.

JIM, Thanks so much to the Ross Castle info. My dad will be happy to hear this. (It was his mom's side that the Ross family is from...Her dad was a Clark...he had money before the Depression) After doing some genealogy on my own for my mom's side of the family I found that this really is a small world. It is quite possible that some of us are related. You wouldn't think so naturally. But it is odd how close some of us really are. I have a best friend on the net who is from Ohio. She did a lot of genealogy and found out that it is very possible that she and I are distantly related. More research will prove/disprove this. Thanks for all the great info!!!

Longview, TX

Bitty1...it will be a long time before I go back. I will ask my father if he remembers.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I have been told by my parents that we are related to Adam and Eve of biblical fame....But so far I just can't get the documentation to prove it! Guess I'll have to take it on faith!

Crossville, TN

LOL, Zany...Now I know we are ALL related! Isn't that wonderful?? Jo

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Y'all are so lucky! My ancestors are Smith on both sides of both sides, and the same names pop up for every generation of Smiths. Charlie, Walter, Sebron, Tom, Jack, Claude, like that on and on. Every lead ends up with someone who could be related, and everyone who would be able to provide decisive information is gone. Social Security was too late for most of the leads. And the habit of calling everybody aunt or uncle or cousin, related or not, further confuses things. You who can go to Ellis Island and find a connection are fortunate. I think I feel like an orphan!

Crossville, TN

Aimee...we have never had any SMITHS..so we'll take you...from now on you are Cousin Aimee! Welcome to the family! Jo

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, joyful day, now I have a family with no Smiths! Mama will be hurt, but she's getting old and will forget in an hour or so. So, Jo, where did we all come from? I mean, Cousin Jo.

Don't worry...you're STILL southerner! Daddy said we were run out of Kentucky for Horse theiving...but we originated in and around Boone, NC, and the parents moved to WV after having the first 4 or his 8 kids. Our GF was a "Teamster" Drove a freight wagon from Ashville to Boone...an early "trucker", so we have LOTS of relatives! OH!...and Dad was an "ice man" for a while too...so more relatives...so I'm told! LOL Jo

Wigan, Landcashire, United Kingdom

I am related to John Lindsay who was Major of New York, but we never got in touch with the family as we should have done, all the Lindsays name one of their sons John so we have loads of Johns in the family tree.

Its a pity many years ago that we never listens to our great grandparents or grandparents cos they had a lot to tell us but we were all looking forward to a new tomorrow with loads of materialistic goodies and we were not interested in what they said,i remember one very old relative talking about seeing Queen Victoria and off course they lost sons and husbands in the first word war and then they had to go through it all again in 1939. Sheila in NW England.

I really like this thread.

I've always been fascinated by family history, trouble is no one ever spoke about it much and nor will they. I wrote about my paternal grandfather on the last thread and my fathers wishes and warnings about tracing ancestors. I have tried but there is so very little information to go on since no one will tell LOL.

Being famous is reletive (scuse the pun on the thread name), my maternal great grandfather was a well known (for the area and in his time) head horseman on a large estate in Salop. Head Horseman was a very important position for a peasent to be in. He would show the Shire horses at the county shows and often came back with many rosettes. This was something I learned about only 3 years ago and Mother and aunt reckons thats where I inherited my love of horses from.

Another odd thing was a portrait painting we had of a sailor with his shadow shaped like a bear behind him. On his cap was written H.M.S Victory, he was an ancestor and on a trip to the H.M.S Victory I discovered that 2 men with my surname served on the Royal Navy Flagship during the Napoleonic wars. My surname itself stems from one of the royal families of Wales (the history is convoluted and confusing) back in the times when to be king just meant you were richer, bigger and meaner than the next man, until of course a bigger, richer meaner man came along and then you were no longer king LOL.

The problem seems that my family have wandered from their home counties and without knowing where GGparents were born its too difficult to find information.

Longview, TX

I agree this has been a very interesting thread. Thanks for starting it Prain.
Aimee...I am lost about the Smiths. My mom's maiden name is Smith. Quite a common name around here. Her dad was from Mississippi though.

Nanaimo, BC(Zone 8b)

After some years of growing up and stumbleing often, I now get to because of my job , walk in the same area,s that my ancestors settled, and made their own. The other day I did a job on an island north of us, it was at a church and when getting paperwork finished I saw a picture ,one of many, it was my great grandmother at my grandmothers wedding . There were not many pics taken so big score. glad so many like the thread, it is such an interesting subject and some how very important to keep track of ones past I think.
