The sky watcher show has started!

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

We have been sitting outside for the past 30 minutes and have seen about 20 already. Who else is up watching?

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

I waited up for it, but the sky is so overcast, I can't see anything. Bah, humbug!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm up, had to take a 'neck' break. Have seen over 30 and it's just getting started.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm up and can't see a thing. It's so overcast here I can't even see stars. Should I give up? If I can't see stars I'm assuming I won't see meteor showers? I'm gonna refill my coffee cup and go out for awhile yet I think.

We're up set the alarm, rain most of the night' Clear now, goin' outside, hope to see the show too' Sis'

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

So far, saw 45 - numbers 35 & 39 were really spectacular - but too much light polution to see the fainter ones. Baking pumpkin pies - doing our Thanksgiving thing today as we will be out of town on Thurs... neighbors coming home from a night on the town keep shining their high-beams on me as I sit in the middle of the street staring up at the stars... ok, pies cooling now - going back out for another short spell, then in to bed for me. Blessings, all.

karla

Fooey, dang fog moved in,forget it' Have a great time anyways and don't get a stiff neck, lol' See ya,Sis'

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm back in again. It's really, really COLD out there, and the wind is blowing about 30 mph, which doesn't help matters any. Am I the only one that's disappointed that I can't see anything? I stayed up all night for what? Okay, I'm getting really tired and cranky, but not willing to give up until daylight.

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

Aimee and JoanJ, what a bummer! I wonder if there's a website where you view some? If our local news station mentions one I'll be sure to post it for you.
TiG, I know what you mean about taking a "neck" break. I thought about setting up my reclining lawn chair, but was worried I'd fall asleep and miss the show!
Sis, sorry to hear about the fog. I hope it moves right on out as fast as it moved in.
Kmom, I wish I would have kept count. It would have been really neat if we had admired the same ones.

I'm here, been watching from the bedroom window, but I'm going to go out behind the toolshed and see if I can avoid the neighbors' yard light from hell. saw a couple before I put my glasses on! I haven't counted, but there have been a couple of times when it's almost been like fireworks put on by the local volunterr firemen - no offense intended, they just put em up slow to prolong the effect! I'll be back in a bit.

Thanks for the kind words appreciate it' Well, we went for a drive,we're socked in here, nothin' but fog'

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

am here... enjoying the scene :)! clear & nice on my end.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

The clouds didn't obscure the falling particles. I saw plenty of them on all sides, including the eastern end where the town lights are. It's cool and damp, and the girls didn't make it out, so I just sat in the car for awhile. Got a stiff neck, of course. It seemed the clouds cleared an area for about a half hour, then moved back in gradually, but I could see the meteors either way. It was interesting, but not enough to hold the attention of a sleepy and grouchy 4 year old. Mother Nature should schedule a matinee once in awhile, for those who don't get to see the late show. Good morning, you all, and good night.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Dh woke me up to see the sky display. We had our coffee out on the deck with me in my long flannel nightgown and an overshirt. Sure was cold out there but well worth it.It was absolutely awesome. We went to bed dissapointed last night as the news station said it would be cloudy up here so I feel very lucky to have been able to see them.

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

back in. i went out and stood in the shadow of the shed and watched for a bit. One was so bright that the trail stayed visible for a couple of minutes, and I looked away several times, so I know it wasn't my eyes. the heifers have bedded down out there near where i was standing and two of them got up and came over to the fence for a minute before they droused off again. One of the others was snoring lightly and another was moaning in her sleep. She is rather pregnant...
It felt like I was right under the center of the shower - they fell all around me, some bright, long streaks and some just sparkles twinkling as they disintegrated. it is 38, and still. Orion and Sirius are just past zenith and the Seven Sisters, two Dippers and Casiopeoa are up and bright - and Leo of course! What a great morning.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I was so happy, we got a wonderful show. I stopped counting at 100 at 5 o'clock, and then DH got up and came out with me, which was wonderful, I hate to see something like that by myself. He said he figured we wouldn't be around for the 2099 show:) Even he kept saying 'ah man!!'
Thanks God, great show.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

darn it... the digital camera can't take pictures of the falling stars. i guess i would need a night vision camera to do that. it nice 45 degs. outside. meteor shower is beginning at it's high peak on this end. got the lawn chair outside. am too excited to fall asleep :)! i heard in the CNN news, the next show of Leonid meteor shower is in the year 2099. boy oh boy... am sure glad i am not missing this one! off i go again... LOL.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Hi Carol and all, It was throwing them things across the sky left and right and all in between. I thought I was going to look east and did and could't see any and then discovered it was more overhead. I saw two that started at the same time, one to my left and one to my right, I thought they were going to meet in the middle but burned out. Still going here. Cleat skies and 52 degrees. Carol I hope you drank a cup of coffee for me. I finally came in and made a pot. Sitting here now with one for you.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Carol your skies must have been very clear over in Surry - we were very overcast and I am very disappointed!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Our skies were perfectly clear, and the show was really good! We got up at 4:00 (DH, eldest son and me), and watched for about half an hour, until my stiff neck and cold body told me it was time to go back inside :)

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

I got up at 3 a.m.it was very foggy but I had one clearing and saw 3 in three minutes, got skairt all alone outside (owls hooting and coyotes howling...sends shivers down my spine..tried not to be a'skairt, but i was) then ran back inside :)

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

It was and is still extremely foggy here in Western PA. Drat...I haven't seen a "falling star" for years and was hoping this time I would. Drat... :(

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

It was so foggy here that I couldn't see anything :o(
Very dissapointed

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Socked in here by smoke from the forest fires... cannot see to the end of the block, much less the skies. Sigh.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

i got up at 5am to see what was happening-FOG pea soup fog...it was so still and so warm I could hear the fog dropplets hitting the oak leaves! Then off to bed....
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Well my hubby was up and out there. He got blinded! The dogs woke him up so they could go outside. So he sneaked outside in the dark and was standing on the deck, eagerly looking and waiting. About that time he was blinded by the light from hell! My eight year old saw him standing out there in the dark and flipped on the light switch. His calm, dark sky suddenly blinded him with a 300 watt halogen spotlight! LMBO Let's just say, he saw stars!

Mason, MI

Fog here too.
Oh well...

Havertown, PA(Zone 6a)

We got the kids up at 4 and watched till one by one they got too cold or too tired and went back. I guess we saw about 100 in an hour. Not bad for a well lit suburban street.

Then I went back to bed and slept in till after 9:30! Imagine that!

suky

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Fog here ....I got up at 3 and peeked outside and couldn't see the highway out front,so I just went back to bed. I've seen the show before, but this one was supposed to be a really great one. Oh,well...there will be other celestial entertainment that's one thing you can be sure of.

Plymouth, MI(Zone 6a)

could not even see my hand in front of my face let alone any thing in the sky! Terrible fog.. Darn, darn and double darn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Meems

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Daggone it, daggone it, daggone it! We had thick fog, too! Howie set the alarm for 3am and looked out the window to see thick fog everywhere. He woke up off and on all morning and it never lifted until the sun came up. *Waaaaaah*

Montrose, PA(Zone 5a)

iT WAS CLEAR AS ABELL HERE THEY WERE FANTASTIC! SOME WERE REALLY LARGE.HAD TO GO IN BECAUSE IT WAS COLD AND WATCHED FROM OUR BATHROOM WINDOW!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

I almost missed out on the show by thinking it wouldn't be there because of the clouds, but when those babies came plummeting through the clouds, they were highly visible. And the clouds really did clear a big spot long enough for a good display. I was out in the pasture all alone, except for the hoot owls and some weird sounding bird I've never heard before, and it was cold and damp before I came in, so I finally went to the car and stretched out on the front seat so I could have a good view without killing my neck. I felt like I just had to see this historic performance.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Not a cloud in the sky here in northeastern Oregon. We were up at 3 watching the shower while listening to owls and some other night bird. From the 45th parallel it was all toward the southeast, south and southwest. We would have stayed out longer but it was cold. Will it go again tonight does anyone know?
