Your Neck of the Woods 2015 Part "Deux"

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

The girls are just so adorable.
Love that fruit plate.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

lotsa cuteness Jan!

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

They look so sweet; I love those big smiles!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Lotsa cuteness for sure, but, just like each of us there can be some grumpiness, too.
This morning Phoebe and I met coleup after I dropped off the girlies at school. They are actually playing with Legos right now. Too cute. I 'll go take a pic.

coleup seems like a most wonderful grandma, from overhearing how she talks to her GS.

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

I love Phoebe's outfit! It reminds me of some of the outfits my daughters picked out, insisting "they do too match!". A relative gave me a dollhouse similar to that after my girls were grown, and I wondered how the grandkids I hope to have some day would use it...now I have an idea!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I may have my digging fork back and assembled by this weekend.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I left my iPad at their house, so I had to wait til DS and DDIL brought it to me or else I would have responded sooner. I let Phoebe choose her own outfits. I LOVE how all the girls come up with some wildandcrazy outfits. My oldest grandydaughter(12) ALWAYS wears socks that do NOT match. Usually out of necessity, cuz you know how washers eat them.

Glad you'll get your fork into commission. It looks like a great design!

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

I seem to remember that one of my daughters liked wearing mismatched socks when she was that age. Come to think of it, she still does!

Ric, what does your digging fork look like? Is it a machine?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Another mismatched, twentysomething sock wearing girl here...

Ric I keep reading your post as saying you'll have your digging fork and your digging back ready to go soon.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Sally there are no digging backs around our house any more. LOL

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

(smile) olly, if I recall, sounds like you guys are having a better spring than last year, and I'm happy for that, for you.

And happy to be reading the chitchat as everyone gets back in the dirt here!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Happy Easter everyone. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
I was a bit surprised that the Easter Bunny showed up at our house last night. We haven't had a visit from her in many many years. I just don't know how she knew that JR stayed over, maybe when you paint eggs she gets an automatic message and knows to stop by and hide them. LOL

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh yes Sally, I have been thinking about how bad last Spring and Summer were for me and how much better I am this year. Certainly not the girl I was before but I am getting things done, not near as depressed as I was either.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Sally, is that a mis-spelling of Ollie? Like in Laurel and Hardy? Are you suggesting some slapstick quality to Ric and Holly? ;-)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

:^)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

What a difference a year makes. Sooooo glad you are able to move better.

Hi Tammy!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

No Muddy it's sort'a like this the pic.
Alfie's Adventure
I woke up at like 5AM Saturday and looked outside and saw this great white moon looking down through the clouds. So I asked Alfie if he wanted to go watch the aliens arrive during the lunar eclipse. He was all excited at the prospect, especially when he saw me get his leash out. So coffee, camera and leash in hand we drove up to observatory hill for an unobstructed western horizon view, since the eclipse was to start at 6:16AM and moonset was due soon after the eclipse, which only lasted something like 16 minutes. A few minutes after 6 we got out of the car to setup for the shoot an see which lens we wanted, turned on the camera and the message:
NO SD CARD INSERTED, appeared.
Holly had taken the card to download to her laptop. I have groused about this for 15 months now, telling her to put the spare in so the camera is always ready to point and shoot. So she patiently explained to me it was my fault, because I know she does that.
Alfie was so disappointed!!!

Forgot to add----see picture....

Here come the Tomatoes and Peppers....and Mints--and some herbs--
and Strawberry plants--and who knows what else. The Bonnie's truck unloading today.
Crazy! TOMATOS????? Peppers? People are buying them too---
double crazy.!!!!!!!

More CRAZY stuff---People have NO clue!

--Today, someone wanted an annuals combo HB. "w/ the blue flowers hanging down"...?
--Someone HAD TO have a Cherokee Purple Tomato plant! Told him--later....
--Someone wanted Miracle Grow to put on her dried up "Encore" Azalea.
told her it MAY re-grow--just give it time. I sold them a bag of Holly Tone.

Lastly---(Love this!)
--A very professionally dressed couple wanted a fig tree--as his father's was all dried up
and he was so upset b/c it was from Italy. The man of the couple was Greek...

This led to a very long discussion and sharing about my neighbor's Fig tree....
and how Olga had it all cut down--and how I rescued all the cut off new stems...
and how I rooted all the cut off tops of these stems---etc...etc....
SHE wanted to know how she could root some part of this dead fig so her father would
be happy to (maybe) have it again. It was a fairly young Fig tree--so it, probably did
not make it through this winter either.

It ended by me telling them about all my rooted Fig cuttings from Olga's new shoots
that grew back from the roots--and how her cousin, Luis, (from Spain) knew how to
cut all these back (I had offered--but Luis "knew better")--and how I gathered up all
the cut off shoots, trimmed them up and stuck them into pots to root and how well
they all rooted and are growing....AND--that I would be happy to bring them 2 of
the ones I have to grow for her father. Spain--Italy---Greece---probably the samd Fig.

HE--in the business suit--wanted to pay me for them. I refused...said I have never sold any cuttings and would be happy just to give them the growing cuttings.
Told them how to care for them....etc...

HE wanted to give me something---so we agreed that i would love to take some of the
Greek cookies he went home to make for Easter. HE will stop by Wednesday on his
way home from work to p/u the potted cuttings and to give me the cookies.
And--I will give him the pots of Figs.

Life is never boring for me at the HD. And--I guarantee you--they will never forget me.

LOVE these chance encounters! Often I feel that I talk too much to all the customers--
but they also learn a lot from me in the process. I am still selling Milorganite--every
chance I get. And, of course, each time I do--it leads to some lengthy discussion WHY?
Then they buy it....

That looks like a handy tool, Ric. Where did you find it?
Too bad about not getting photos of the eclipse. How about downloading some and pretending you took them ; - )

Gita, I thought of you today when I thought about putting Milorganite down on my lawn. I didn't get that done, but I did apply the corn gluten weed preventer ot.com/p/Green-It-64-oz-Ready-to-Spray-Liquid-Corn-Gluten-Weed-Preventer-4002710/203148546
I sprayed part of my neighbor's yard, too, so that there will be less weeds seeds blowing my way!

That was nice of you to offer the fig cuttings to that man; it sounds as if he was very grateful.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Ric. I am laughing!!!!!!!!! How long before you learn? Sorry but that's marriage, eh? So funny, we have been there!
Nice picture of the man on the moon and his alien instrument.

Wonderful story Gita!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Sally, The first time I did that we actually went somewhere I am thinking a garden tour. Boy I was so upset and Ric was not a happy camper either. But by now I figure that it is just one of those things you check when you pick up the camera. LOL He did say that it was a last minute decision, so he just gathered up everything and bolted out the door.
So we both had quite a day and we are both pretty tired, neither of us are quite finished and I hear that we will have several days of rain, so I figure we won't be doing much (thank goodness) the next couple of day.
I started out going to the Garden Club flower arranging workshop, great fun and they served us lunch as well. Just as I was pulling in, Ric with son Jamie were headed out. I got two more flower beds cleaned up and some work on the juniper hedge where the corners are limbed up. A few broken branches that needed cleaned up a little. Ric and Jamie had set out on a real job, a bit bigger job than Ric was expecting. I answered an add for free bricks and Jamie had taken the day off of work to get his motorcycle inspected so he was available to go with Ric to get the bricks. The girl sent a pic of the brick pile but it was a lot bigger than Ric thought. More than a ton of them. The back of the truck is really dragging and so is Ric. So I need to get back out there and clean up a little and then I will help Ric get some of the bricks off the truck. We don't have to completely empty the truck but it can't sit with all that extra weight in it too long.

Don't you dare say get off the tailgate to lighten the load.LOL
We got about 580 solid red brick, worth about $377 plus tax. That's enough brick to pave a 12' x 12' area.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

When did we stop having 2 Articles per day? Now there is only one....

Also--I just glanced at all the 1st place winners in ATP's photo contest--
at least 6 of the 1st place pics were the same that got 1st place here
on the DG Photo Contest. Seems unfair...but I guess it does not matter...

Might as well post the sure thing--right? G.

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

That's a beautiful flower arrangement, Holly.
Wow! It's great that the woman offered those bricks on Freecycle rather than add them to the landfill, and even better that you can put them to good use. Freecycle was a brilliant idea.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Used bricks are highly valued in our area she could have probably gotten a couple of hundred dollars if she had advertised them on Craigslist rather than FreeCycle.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

oh man, what a lot of brick, that's awesome!

Gita, the article process is going through some technical changes. They still want two a day but we're having technical difficulties. as they say- please stand by....

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Sounds like we are getting a good amount of rain. I should know. I jave been laying awake listening for maybe an hour...

Why do a fair amount of rain and a good amount of rain both mean something that is neither necessrily fair nor good?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Wednesday high 49? What the... Where did that come from? But that is ok cuz weekend is clear in 60s and I am off work
wood poppy with rain last weekend

at this point I'm really hoping the preschoolers cannot tell the difference between Perky and "Slightly Crazed from Lack of Sleep," when I do storytime at 10:30

8^}

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Sally what were you doing up at 330 in the morning?

I can't imagine you as 'slightly crazed from lack of sleep'. How could one tell the difference between that and your regular self anyway?!? ;-P

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

:)

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Must have been the moon. LOL I was reading till 4:27AM. and I'm just glad that I don't have to read to pre-schoolers. LOL The funny part was I was asleep till my phone beeped at midnight. And Holly doesn't get why I don't want a phone in the bedroom.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Note that was 'His" phone that beeped at midnight. LOL

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hehehe.

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Wow you guys all remind me of me when I was in college...staying up to all hours of the night. Sheesh!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Well it's sure not to party! LOL
