That is true of not charging 1/2 empty batteries if it is a Nickel Cadmium battery. If it's a Lithium Ion then you can pretty much do whatever you want with that as it does not follow the same set of rules.
Yardening part 5, Mid Atlantic, Nov 19 2014
Really!!! Aren't YOU smart!
I believe mine are Lithium. All of them are--and I just bought this trimmer a year ago.
Thanks again--Gita
Lol...not that smart but I did used to sell tools a few jobs ago so I picked up some learning.
Gita, unplug your charger until you need it again in the spring. Even while it sits idle it uses current converting, whether a recipient is attached or not.
Will do, David--right now. G.
Thanks gentlemen. :-] Just out of habit, I don't recharge till mine are low. I had Ni-Cads for soooo long and at the cost of the ions, I want to get as many charges as possible.
Does anyone know if Cornus Sericea is self pollinating? I never seem to see them with berries, which makes me wonder.
Cornus sericea is self-pollinating. According to Missouri Botanical Gardens:
" Flowers give way to clusters of whitish (sometimes with a bluish tinge) drupes in summer. Fruit is quite attractive to birds and is generally considered to have as much if not more ornamental interest than the flowers."
Since the berries are white, occur early in the summer, and are enjoyed by birds, they easily go unnoticed. See https://www.google.com/search?q=cornus+sericea+berries&biw=1600&bih=758&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=l--pVNOPEIb8yQSTx4DoAw&ved=0CDIQ7Ak
I read that too but I guess I wanted more assurance.
Behnkes is offering free tool sharpening again, starting this weekend.
I might take a trip out there this weekend!
I may have mentioned it before but a friend from church has asked me to design a garden layout around a new patio she had done. She wants me to do all the work too and this is a pretty big job for me. I'm a little nervous because I want everything to be perfect. I'm thinking it's going to take around 26 hours to complete. Below is a layout although I'm not sure how well the pic will come out. I'm going to lay out a rock wall at the at the top bend as this all slopes to the NE. I have to regrade it because there is a steeper slope then a sharp cutoff to a gentle slope. Each block is about a foot. I'm pretty excited. If I get the job I'll take plenty of pics to share with you all.
You've done a great job landscaping your own yard, so I'm sure hers will look great when you're done! What will be in the big circle at the top?
SSG, did you make it to Behnkes?
The big circle at the top is a Heritage clump river birch. Thanks, not everyone has the same style as me so I tried to tone it down a bit LOL.
Oh that's right, she wanted a clump river birch. The layout looks good to me, with the birch only shading the shade-lovers.
Yeah it should all look nice if it all comes together.
very exciting, Seq
Muddy, it's going on for a few weeks so I still have some time. I don't know if I'll be able to make it today.
well, you're not going to get anything done ' in the yard' today. Ugh this rain!
Woohoo!! I'm sure she will be deeeelighted!!!!
Rain for sure. VERY slippy this morning. Jeff stepped down on to the sloped sidewalk and walked very quickly while hollering back at me in a high-pitched panicky voice. Don 't step on the sidewalk...get in the grass!!!
Yeah really, what a crummy day. Luckily, the ground was frozen and I only had inside work to do anyway. Glad Jeff didn't fall!!
Me, too!!! So was he.
Isn't it great when the weather is bad when you have inside chores you really have to get done?!
Tomorrow's going to be a challenge; it's supposed to be 44 and sunny, I have lots I want to do outside, but I have to put another coat of paint on the walls : - (
My back yard was so mushy with water today--I thought i was walking in puddles.
Lots of small-med. branches came down from my maple. As usual...
I always collect all the blown down branches and sticks and break them up
for kindling for my back yard neighbor. he has a fire pit right behind my shed--
on top of the Co. storm drain.
So-I always break up all my fallen little branches for him to start up the fire with.
G.
Us too- get them off the grass and we have a fire pit to toss them on. Or I leave them on the ground in that area under several trees, where I try to keep a leaf litter 'mulch' going.
the Wintersweet that I grew from GIta's seed has a couple dozen blooms and they are about half open now. They do smell very sweet. I'm so hoping I can enjoy them and they don't get torn up by bad weather.
Wonderful! The scent will be worth a trip to the back corner...
Has Anyone heard from Paul?????
SS--you used to be in touch with him. Any word?
I want to know how the BIG WS shrub he dug up here is doing?
It should be coming into bloom soon.
Sure would be nice to hear from him....
YOOOOOOHOOOOOO--Paul! Where art Thou?
G.
Gita, I haven't heard from Paul in awhile. I'll ask Paul if he's planning on coming to the seed swap!
I texted him to go smell his wintersweet. He's not living at the house where it is planted.
and I gave him the swap date.
He had quit reading DG awhile, nothing 'personal' just life is my understanding.
Sally--as far as I now--he has always done all the plantings at his parent's house.
NOT where he was living. He was renting.
I wonder if he is overly involved in this new job (the 3D things) or if something
more personal is going on...
It would be great to see him and catch up. g.
My yardening yesterday consisted of getting the plow on the tractor. Between that and a snow blower I shouldn't have much shoveling.:-}
I forgot that I also hoed a whole lot of chickweed out in the evergreen bed out front and put down some Preen. I wish we could find an ornamental that grew that well over winter. LOL

I presented my proposal to my friend from church and she wants to get it done how I laid it out. She wanted to change the Exbury Azalea 'Klondike' to a 'Mt. St. Helens'. I like the MSH better anyway but wanted to have the yellow in the garden. I'm pretty excited for it but it's going to be a TON of work. I figure it's going to take at least 28 hours. I'll take plenty of pics, before, during, and after. I'm looking at doing it late April or early May.
Looking forward to seeing it.
Congrats on the job Seq!
Thanks!
Congratulations, Seq! It'll look beautiful.
It sounds like you're all set for the snow, Ric. I'm hoping that whatever we get is fluffy enough for the leaf blower.
Cool beans, seq. if your prediction of time is like my sweetie's multiply your estimate by at least 3. Heehee. Bless his heart. Whenever he estimates a time for a project I automaticAlly add time to it. I do know his jobs are done well, though.
Lol, yeah I hope you're not right though :) It's possible it will take longer because I want to make it look great but it doesn't matter because I'm getting paid pretty well to do it.
Seq, that is great - this could be the first step for fun and lucrative side jobs or even a new career pursuit! I meant to tell you earlier that I was impressed with the way you were able to actually draw out your design. I have a lot of design ideas, but have absolutely no talent for getting them out of my head and on to paper.
Seq, what a great opportunity! I'm a big fan of Mt St Helens azalea.
Thanks Aspen! Yeah it would be great if she told her friends about it.
MSH Azalea is pretty great. The fall color on ours turns a very similar color to the blooms in the spring. It's gorgeous.
