Dizzy spells are no fun! I have had my share of them, usually from inner ear issues.
I hope it isn't anything serious and you get to enjoy going through the Robin, timmijo.
CLOSED: 2014 Fall Round Robin On the Wing
Hello, finally feeling better and ready to add my own seeds into the Robin. Hope to get her shipped out tomorrow. Thanks, everyone! It was wonderful to go through and find all the treasures. I had to "Google Image" many of the specimens to find out what they were, but now things should go a little faster, and the Robin will shortly go speedily on her way.

Glad you recovered from your dizzy spell enough to enjoy the Robin. Any ideas what caused it? Hopefully just a passing thing.
Thanks for keeping us posted.

The Robin has shipped and is on her way to Christine in Kentucky. I took some seed, and added some, each time trying to be modest, and I also inserted a few more little plastic baggies and a few more white labels.
Did I read somewhere that the Robin might go around again? If that is the case, I will prepare more seed.
By the way, the box arrived on my doorstep in a USPS Priority Mail Regional Box B. I took it to the post office to inquire if I could ship the Robin back in the very same box. They said sure, since you have the box, but ordinarily, Regional Boxes are for businesses.
Just passing that info along since the postage seems to be very reasonable if you stick to the Regional Box B that the Robin currently is in.
Thanks, everyone

That's what I thought from reading the PO website, but everybody seems to be doing it, so--hey, why not? Majority rule.
I keep having "yellow bee balm" germinate and I still have no idea what they are. Anyone have a guess? I'll just put them in the garden and see if no one knows, but it is always nice to know what size the plant is going to be before putting it in. They certainly have germinated well.
Dee I just had the worst brainfart reading your comment. I had this whole long response about how much I love LEMON beebalm, then I reread it and you were asking about YELLOW beebalm.. ai ai ai!!
Any who, I tried looking up yellow beebalm and it seems rather elusive.. one blogger posted about her yellow beebalm only to follow up with an edit to say it was actually yellow loosestrife.
Pretty cool it's germinating for you, I'd love to see pics as the mystery unfolds :))
Dee you have any pics of that yellow bee balm? Can't say I have ever seen any before.
My post office is apt to reject that Regional Box B, they have politely told me before when I had a box that was "illegal". I can't remember what the issue was with the box now, but I had to repack it. Anyway we shall see when the time comes. Ya'll have a good evening!
It's still in the seedling stage, it will be interesting to see what it grows into.
I've not heard of that one either, Dee. Could you post an image of the seedling foliage? Maybe help us to identify it better.
Ladies, I believe I have a wisdom tooth dropping in this week. Surgery anyone? Ack. I looked in my files (yes they are quite extensive) and as I was too old to submit to the tooth fairy I kept my other wisdom tooth in my medical records file. It was removed in 2002. I joked then that I would make earrings out of them when the other one came out. Hmmm. Ha ha ha. Will keep you posted.
Thanks timmmijo for keeping the bird moving. :)
Have a great day! And yes, the bird does go around for successive iterations. hee hee...

Amanda, I hope and pray that you are not in too much pain.
Many thanks to all the wonderful participants who placed an interesting mix inside of the Robin. It helped me to know what to expect/contribute for this being my very first time. Now I am a little more prepared.
Oh, awesome about the bird going around because I have much more seed to process and package.
I think it'd be fun to maybe rely/focus more on the "wants" of folks especially for spring. It could be a mass seed trade if we all looked at each other's have lists. What do you think?
The bird has gone around multiple times before and I'm game. Be aware that the "spring" Robin or the 2nd round of the Fall Robin ends well into planting season and sometimes it's difficult to plan for or expect viable plants - especially for folks in northern climes.
Just a thought.
Speaking of northern climes.
I saw your weather report last night on the eastern seaboard.
Stay warm, stay inside, feed them birdies, best wishes for the blizzard /Storm Juan of 2015!!!!

A note about the Regional Rate Box B -
The Regional Rate boxes are not available at the post office - they must be ordered (in "bulk") from the PO and get delivered to your home/business. I ship a lot of plant trades, so I have all sizes of boxes on hand. IF you are shipping to someone relatively close (For example from NH to MD was $7.50 for me to send the Robin) and the package is not excessively heavy, then it usually ends up being cheaper. The Reg Rate box B is about the size of a Medium Flat Rate box, which would have cost me $12-13+/-. HOWEVER - my understanding is that you can only use them when purchasing your postage online. I print all my trade labels online and pay with my debit card which it conveniently keeps on file for me. During the trading season, I usually pack and ship 2 or 3 boxes at a time. I pack and weigh them, print the labels online then drop them off at the Post Office BYPASSING the line and letting the clerk know they are all set to go. They thank you and you're on your way. You could also arrange for a pickup right there on the website, but I don't feel comfortable leaving boxes hanging from my mailbox out at my street. If you do, you could even skip the trip to the PO.

My Post Office ships both.....priority and regional...am thinking I like my gals....could it be they like the goodies they've received from me? LOL.
the robin arrived today! will have fun looking through it:)
Oh, I'm glad the Robin landed again, and thanks for all the info, Jen. I am going to set myself up at USPS as soon as I get a chance to sit down.
Nasty storm blowing through right now, we're holding on for the night. Some areas east of here expecting 2'- 3' of snow tonight.
Stay warm and fed.
Al
nanny23 i plan to mail the robin off tomorrow! found several seeds to keep:))
Thanks Christine! I will be anxiously awaiting It's arrival to see what treasures it holds.
I was in such a hurry when the robin came to me that I shuffled through and took a couple things, so if you send around again, count me in.
We hunkered down here in the mid-Atlantic, but we didn't even get a dusting of snow in southern Delaware. New England is getting the worst of it. Thanks for your concern.

Good morning folks - I am thankful for a sunny day, albeit cold.
This season was forecast to be colder and wetter than usual. So far it's been wet, but I've only seen a dusting of snow. No ice storms (knock on formica) so far either. we've been very fortunate in a way - otherwise, will be concerned at another season of unusually high predatory insects since the weather hasn't been cold enough to kill them off. Ack.
Will post an interest thread for a "spring round robin"?
Thanks everybody for helping this one go so smoothly.

Just wanted to let you all know I started seeding my new goodies a few days ago (1/24) and am waiting for sprouts on many any day now.... First up was Cheirianthus a. which I already had seed for. Thank you to those I got seed from!!!!!!!!
The Robin landed today. I picked it up this afternoon but haven't had a chance to open it yet. It will have to wait until I get off work. Am I the last stop before it returns home to Amanda?
Well, that was a fun robin, don't think I'll participate in the spring one as I'm pretty much done by the time it gets to me, LOL. Talk to you ladies elsewhere on Dave's, I usually lurk around the seeding thread and the art posts during the spring and summer. I'm going to be weeding and planting for the next couple months. Thanks for all the great seeds.
Dee
I am rethinking this as well. I have plenty of seeds, and if I have to package up my own that are still loose, it might take up more time than what I would like.
Keep me posted as to the next wintertime Robin; this group has been wonderful and the experience has taught me a lot.
Count me in for the spring round. I'm having a ball! I have a lot of grass left to get rid of! lol
i dont want to be included in the spring round. already have too many seeds, lol!
Hi kids:
I'm laid up sick in bed today. Sore throat, headache, etc.
Just checking in.
We'll coordinate on a spring round robin when I post the thread. Found crocus in the yard this week!
Looking forward to seeing the bird from Nanny this week.
Thank you everyone for playing!

Thankyou Amanda!!!! (BTW..I started some of your Asclepias...thank you sweetie!)
Hope you're feeling ALOT better SOON, Amanda.
No hurry if you decide to do the spring robin.
We're under 3 (plus) feet of snow, new coating of a foot yesterday. More snow Thursday (?)
WHERE IS SPRING!?
Spring is on Vacation until April or May .
It does that from time to time , I would get a group together and go hunt it down and bring it back,, but it is elusive ,,
Weather and moods are just about criminal , ! , Winter does that ,,
Makes good times all the more appreciated I guess ,, Just not right now ,,
Only icy here ..
Good morning! Another pretty day here in NC, sun makes everything better.
Get that milkweed going, everybody! Pet project of mine as you know. I should probably start more, but . . .
Interesting studies about whether planting non-native MW "distracts" Monarchs (for simplicity's sake) as they are migrating south. In other words, are they spending time in my yard laying eggs when they should be winging their way to Mexico? Curious, as it's true, I don't get many (well not in the past several years) on their way north, but I do expect them to stop on their way south. Often, eggs are laid and hatched out well into colder weather and frost. So I'm "questioning" my use of the tropical MW this year. It's too soon to say. Or is it?! It's february!!! HA!
As I ponder that, good luck to those of you under the snow and under the spectre of more.
Have a good day.

Amanda )Well I know it likely because of busy , or not feeling well , or no room where you are .
If your out of seed I can always send you a boxful . Half the pods are still on the plants outside ,
Avatar says what they are .. I am still looking for Croton capitatus , I know where to buy a pound , I just don't need that many , Should be able to find them growing along the road or field somewhere , only not so far ,
Soon as the weather warms up some , I will be cleaning seeds again , it is cold in the garage !
I have a hard time believing that the presence of a caterpillar food source could delay a migration pattern that is laid down in the genes.
I know in my area they have been tagging monarchs. One of the reasons is to finally lay to rest the controversy over if some of them stay here year round. I have three that have been hanging out in my garden all winter. I have enjoyed their company while cleaning up the garden for next years annuals.
I am on the NABA chat list and the tropical milkweed debate has gotten rather heated. I haven't had significant monarch activity to get all agitated about the debate and I had so many other butterflies on my tropical that I'm inclined to keep it. But am beefing up other native milkweeds and other pollinator friendly flowers. I've got a start of a pea vine (which is also not native) and lots of winter sown milk jugs with more natives than non natives. Spring needs to come but after a girls hiking trip beginning of March!
