As some of you may recall, this forum is the oldest of all our forums. It was originally created for members of the fledgling site to be able to report problems and make suggestions, and they could be acted upon immediately.
Nowadays most of your requests and reports that come here are transferred and translated by Melody or me to one of our tech team members. It's not terribly efficient for you or the techs, so we're going to try something different.
Starting next Monday (September 8) this forum will become a place to announce pending changes or notify the DG community of scheduled maintenance. We'll open a thread when we know something is on its way and all members will be able to post to those threads with any comments or questions.
For anything that arises in between, please use the "Contact Us" link. it is meant to report problems or ask questions or make suggestions. Using the "Contact Us" link sends your message to our admin help desk where Melody and/or I can help you, or we can easily route it as an email to a tech for review and action.
The DG forum
This forum will now be your one-stop-shop to learn about DG site issues and changes (hopefully before they occur!) All members and subscribers will still be able to post to new announcement threads, but you won't be able to start a new thread here.
In order to serve our community better, all technical or site-related questions, comments or suggestions that are not related to a change or update should be submitted to Melody and me via the "Contact Us" links at the bottom of any page of the site: http://davesgarden.com/helpdesk/dg/
Why are all of the HTML brackets showing up on the finished pages? Or is it just my computer?
It seems to be happening across the site and to everyone I have spoken to. Thought it was just my computer at first.
Yep, I've seen it in several places.
Me, too. Just sent a msg to admin about it. Now the pages that were messed up are normal again. I was starting to think I needed to take a break or something. Came here to see if others had also seen the strange behavior.
I still see them all over the Parking Lot threads. Nothing has changed there.
I am seeing them also
I'm still seeing them, and another member on the same thread, says she doesn't. Weird!
It's not just happening with new posts but to all prior posts in threads.
I didn't see that jumbled up gibberish before today. Wonder if it is gnomes hiding someplace. LOL
I just noticed it today... same threads were fine 2 days ago. It's HTML code which isn't supposed to appear. It's especially noticeable when someone quotes something in response to another message.
I haven't seen them...can you give me a link to one where you see them?
Here's today's Coffee and... Thread from Parking Lot Forum
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1377129/
Wow, that's weird. The link looks perfect in my post, but copied as gibberish.

Hi Terry,
The HTML codes are showing up in Plant ID forum, General Discussion and Chat...look at the latest :Best/Worst what did I learn" thread. The very first post and throughout the thread,
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1375942/
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1377097/
Ummmm and in my above post here.
And in the Birdwatching forum:
Hey Sallie, take a look at: http://www.worldofhummingbirds.com/uninvitedbees.phpa> Hack
OK- in the preview of this message, the HTML isn't showing up, so here's the link: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1376922/#new
Post #9947095 - when I clicked the link for Post #9947095, it appeared normal with no HTML codes. Weird.
I sent a bug report through DMail earlier today about the HTML code showing up in messages.
Yep, weird... the HTML doesn't appear in the preview, but does when the message is posted.

This is from the top of this forum.
Seems I didn't make notes, but I suspect I actually bought the goldenrod through Lazy s's nursery or some such place. The wild stuff also grows in corners and odd spots along with the native NE aster which is sort of a grey lavender. I'll try for a picture of my hill garden but these days when I get home in the evening it is getting dark already so it may be a while. It would look better if I could weed it more than I have lately. Lets see if all those extraneous marking show up on this post : )) (double chin)

I won't leave any more messages. Maybe others have already contacted you. Good luck!

Terry, you don't see it? Html notations for paragraph breaks can be seen in your original posting on top of this page. As you can see from evelyn's comment, not just paragraph breaks but ALL html notations are now visible. And because of that, links are not working.
I already used the "Contact Us" link to report a site problem.
Why was this programming update not announced?
Last evening I noticed the paragraph breaks when I reviewed a post I had made. A few minutes later I saw them in all posts and all html notations were visible.
The bb codes/formatting with which I organized the index to the Morning Glory forum are garble now - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4680855
I get the coding in both FF and IE, was thinking it may be browser specific, but i see not,
much of it is line breaks (br /) but also noticing the anchor tags for links too.
and I find it in old threads, along with new threads.
i see it in every thread in every forum (old and new) today. makes it very difficult to read anything.
I'm seeing it now - I guess I had just "lucked out" and the threads I had read didn't contain the html problem. I know our techs are working on some things so I will make sure they'r aware of this and see if we can't get it cleaned up ASAP today.
Hehe.. just wondering about the html problem myself. The closing line break tag seems to not be working (it shouldn't have a space in it). This is from keeping the enter button down. It's messing up people's posts, I hope they get it fixed soon.
It's not THAT cold yet! lol
I better edit this since they fixed it..lol

Just testing... I was still seeing quote problems.
Yep... some of the problems are fixed, but not the quote box.
The *only* problem that's been fixed is the paragraph break html code.
Everything else is still broken, including italics, bold, quotes, and weblinks.
Eeeekk!
That's alot of stuff
www.yahoo.com
Yeah, I see the html code for them is wrong too. I don't claim to be fixing anything, I know it's not me, I only try to help. The closing tags for at least the bold and the italic html are missing a couple html bits, they should be - < /b> and < /i>. Minus the spaces of course, it wouldn't appear here if it was right. That's kinda why they (and others) don't work actually on the forums, they're not right..lol I'm guessing somebody needs to brush up on their html code and not rely so much on inserting it automatically using programs like Dreamweaver and whatnot.

Seems to me web links are only partially fixed, at least for the moment. The html codes are no longer printing out to the screen as they were earlier, so the links look right (almost), but the links are neither functional nor set out in a different color like they should be.
The line breaks (paragraphs) are right again, but yesterday they switched back and forth several times between 'fixed' and 'broken'. I would like to think they are really fixed now, but it's hard to be sure if they are really fixed or just in temporary transition. Fingers crossed.
This is some bush league level of coding here. Totally unprofessional.
I wish admin would reconsider perhaps some modification to the new policy which keeps us from being able to start threads in this forum to discuss issues of this sort. I do understand the benefits of having us send bug reports via the Contact Us link, but there are also benefits to allowing us a central place to discuss problems.
This open forum in which we can all discuss DG issues is one of the things which sets DG apart from any other website I've seen and has always been one of my favorite features of the site. That admin is always here to discuss things with us makes admin seem more available, less closed off, and the site seem more 'homey'.
As incidents where the Contact Us link is part of or effected by the bug have shown, this forum gives us a backup means for alerting admin to problems. It also provides a way for us to quickly and easily see if others are experiencing the same problem(s) we are or if the problem may be something specific to our own computer. Yesterday when I saw that the pages had no line breaks or paragraphs, I 1st used the Contact Us link to send a report. Then I came to this forum to look for an indication that others were also seeing the same problem. There is just something very comforting about being able to do this.
