Database problem: Veronica pectinata

(Sallie) Cherry Vall, IL(Zone 5a)

Sorry- I found I couldn't delete this post. While the problem below applies, I found that if I type in "Veronica pec" instead of just "Veronica" then it displayed Veronica pectinata as a choice.

Another minor problem. While adding a tag for a plant in Garden Showcase, when I typed in Veronica for the Latin name, Veronica pectinata wasn't one of the choices in the drop-down selection list. I had to use the Common Name, Woolly Speedwell, to add the tag. That resulted in the correct tag "Woolly Speedwell, Veronica pectinata". Is there a better place to report simple database errors like this?

DG PlantFiles link for this plant:

Sallie, in the left-hand column on each page of PlantFiles is a "report an error" link. I checked the helpdesk but didn't see any error reports from you (unless one of the PF admins already responded and closed it out?)

That's the best way to report any hinkiness related to PlantFiles. I tried to replicate your error, and I'm not sure which search you were trying - the general search returned a lot of results because there wasn't an exact match to Veronica pec. The specific search (with Veronica in the genus field and pec in the species field) did return the proper matching results.

In the Garden Showcase, when I started typing "Veronica pec", it immediately returned the proper result, as well as prompting me to choose pectinata, so I'm not sure what went awry for you.

It was while adding a tag to an item in Garden Showcase. When I just typed "Veronica", the choice for "Veronica pectinata" wasn't in the list. I figured out that if I typed in "Veronica pec", that worked. Maybe there are a limited number of items which can be displayed in the list? I figured it out after I had the same thing happen with a Sedum... I had to also enter part of the species. No problem! I'm really just this year figuring out how to use Garden Showcase.

Okay - gotcha. And yes, for a lot of plants, there are too many species and/or cultivars to pull them all up at once, so you have to keep typing to get within "range" :-)
