We got 1.16", which was a nice rain. My plants are now happy and we can go another week without rain if we must. Crazy about the library Sally, good thing it only leaked where it didn't matter. Geez, 4" Muddy! That's nice :)

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Sally, thankfully it wasn't raining frogs in the library!! < =0 Heeheeheeheee. That's funny though 'cause it reminds me of where I work; when it rains, we've got trash cans stationed under all the skylights. =)

I don't know how much rain we ended up getting yesterday, all I know is my Lemongrass on the deck is once again GREEN and standing upright! < =D

Gita, I've got those splitters on my hose bibs outside too, they are wonderful!! I had soaker hoses laid out last year, I have 3 of 'em, but... I .. uuhh... kinda forgot to put 'em out this year. < =) heh heh.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I have 2 soaker hoses--but there is no way I can connect and use them
as both of them (front and back of house) would have to lay openly across
my sidewalk (front) and the patio floor (back).
I could do it on a temporary basis--but I could not leave it there.

It would be great if I could have a soaker hose along my, always dry, YUK bed.

Our rain was also in the inches, most was a nice soft soaking rain with a few downpours. This AM the yard still squishes. I know we were in the area of 3-4 inches over the period of 2 days. We really needed it. Many trees were dropping a few leaves and walnuts had started to thin themselves. This last rain should give them enough to finish most of the growing season.

YIKES!!! Jeff was helping Sam in Annapolis move. Joy, Joy!! He said he slipped on the wet ramp and fell. His arm took the brunt of it. He'll get home tonight. He's pretty tired.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Oh no!!!

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

I hope Jeff's okay, Jan.

The metal hose connector with a shut-off lever - that's what I was thinking could help you get the water pressure you want, SSG. I have single hose connectors with levers on all of my hoses; they are great! I buy the cheapest ones that HD sells because the pricier ones don't last any longer. Sooner or later the levers stop working.

I didn't realize BWI got over 6" of rain. The traffic must have been a nightmare.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Good to know that the cheap ones are just as good!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

what a lovely evening for getting an ice cream cone ( peanut butter cheesecake flavor) and standing outside in the breeze... ask me how I know
;^D

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Jan, that sounds scary! I hope he's not badly injured.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hope Jeff is (mostly) OK!

Re. soaker hoses... lay one into the bed you're irrigating, and put a quick-disconnect on the end. Then you can take your hose over, connect it up, and water for an hour whenever you'd like.

Whether you're meandering the hose around the bed or running two or more hoses in parallel, remember than everything within 1-2 ft. of the soaker hose gets watered pretty well, so use 2-3 ft. spacing between lines or across loops.

Also, you can usually run 150' of soaker (in series, connected end to end) before water pressure starts dropping, and it's OK for elevation to vary by 1-2 feet every so often but more up & down than that and you're going to get uneven watering -- time to switch to drip irrigation with the special valves that aren't affected by water perssure.

Thanks. Jeff got home about 9 last night. He was exhausted. He wore his son out. NEXT time they move Jeff will make sure there is more help. Sam kept saying I can't believe you are 65. Hehehe. Jeff just wanted it to end. 3 trucks full. He is sore, but thankful nothing broke when he fell.

He also brought Miss Phoebe here. She will be three in September. She'll be here til Friday. She has a deep, raspy voice. Pretty cute. One of her friends was talking in a deep, growly voice and her mom asked her what kind of monster she was pretending to be and the little girl said 'I'm not a monster, I'm Phoebe!"

Soaker hoses work well when they don't get hit by a lawn mower. SFE(speaking from experience)

Go ahead and ask what I'm doing up at this hour... That's a good question for which I would like an answer.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Jan, Glad that Jeff is Ok, bet he will be sore today, hope he will be able to have a quiet day reading and not lifting anything heavier than a coffee cup. I fell asleep on the couch about 8 last night and then woke up around midnight and couldn't get back asleep so I was working till about 4:30 this morning.

Jan- TMOYMS

too much on your mind syndrome

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Jan, isn't 4 am here morning time in Ivory Coast? I think they are anticipating (dreaming and praying you there} as much as you are keyed in to going. Nice to clear the psychic space for travel and a good trip.

There are times on my paper route when my body reaches capacity before each is delivered. Powering beyond that usually does damage rather than spur increased capacity. Hugs to Jeff. Are you cooking ahead for him?

I like your story about Phoebe's voice. Recenttly when DGS 3yrs old spilled his milk while searching for one of his 'animals'while his mom and I were talking , she said to get a cloth and wipe it up and he said excitedly "There's my elephant!"

LOVE the elephant!!!!

Thank you coleup, that is a good way to look at it. Maybe I should start doing that each night.
Yes, am cooking some for Jeff, but my grandy daughter, Hope is here. She has a hollow leg, you know. Holy cow!!! She can put it away. Two pics. Hope and I. She is 12. And Miss Phoebe.

Definitely TMOMMS. Holly, I don't think Jeff can ever just sit down.

DS in Annapolis called and said that they hadn't realized the washer and dryer were to stay with the house. Guess what he had to do this afternoon? They couldn't believe that they didn't realize it, but it was in the contract. Oversight? Hmmmm..... Jeff told him that he was NOT coming down to help him move it back. Hehehehe

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Beautiful girls, all!
hoo boy, if the washer and dryer were already out I would negotiate paying the new people something towards THEM getting new ones. I think I'd rather pay $500 than move something back in that I had taken out, especially washer and dryer!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I'm sure they never even thought of that, cuz they were quite flabbergasted after hearing that they were supposed to leave them. One thing they did leave was the play structure that Sam made. It is quite the sturdy thing and cleverly made. Instead of the little posts between the banister rails he used rope and made a pattern of knots(he is in the coast Guard you know hehehe). That was negotiated, but they don't remember anything about the W/D.

I had a credit union board meeting yesterday evening and Jeff had a meeting, so Hope babysat and Miss Phoebe was .....let's say...a little difficult. It was only about an hour and a half. She must have saved it up.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Those fancy knots are fascinating, bet that looks very neat.
Difficult? Why look at that angelic smile! Must have been some misunderstanding ((chuckle!)

Some weather prof at the community college is saying we're going to have a bad winter to pay for this 'San Diego" style summer. Who knows? I'm loving these cool nights and comfortably warm sunny days!

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Beautiful girls, Jan! Glad you've had such nice visits with everyone.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I love the cooler evenings, too.

It has been a wonderful summer of visiting family.

Speaking of weather it looks like Korhogo, Coted'ivoire will be rainy whilst we are there.
