Are we going to have a RU in Arlington this spring? I know everyone's way busy with spring gardening sales and stuff, so thought I'd ask.
North Central TX Round Up?
Well, Sheila and I have been talking about it, but we can't do it till maybe early May.
We are just too busy in April, what does everyone think?
Anytime before it heats up in early June would work, I'd think. Early May would be better to avoid graduations, weddings, end of school activities.
Funny you should ask this, Stephanie. I've been wondering about it myself. But since I don't have much to trade (but lots that I would like) I thought it might be unseemly to ask.
Agree that early May would be best b/c there are a lot of plant sales scheduled for April in DFW area.
So thats my 2 cents.
Early May is going to be better for me too.
I'm not sure I'll have a lot to trade either, but still want to get together with my gardening peeps!
I have been dividing my "wild" daisies that came from Texas Wildflower seed. if anyone would like some they are so ready to be divided and I let them go and grow so I have lots, pretty much flat plants, 2 ft stems on flowers, gorgeous. My Monarda bee balm is looking in need of division, and I will be starting cuttings from my old white butterfly bush (buddleia) before I cut it down, if it even comes back. It was 15 ft tall in its prime, the droughts have hurt it and age has hollowed the trunk a bit. Still have peach iris in a bag from last year, may put some in dirt and see if they will go.
My beautiful plants I got from last year's roundups are mostly still alive. Haven't put them all in the ground, the white ginger and flame vine are in the greenhouse and green, as is the passionflower and the bird of paradise, except the bird lost all its leaves but I'll bet it is still alive. I can bring some bog plants too possibly
I still have lots of pots. Recently put out a call to neighbors and one person brought me at least a dozen clay pots of various sizes. And I always have a good supply of the plastic pots. Maybe some nice gardening books as I've collected way too many over the years. But no plants yet.
I'm waiting to see how quickly my ferns will bounce back, The evergreen ferns got bit some. Sadly, my across the street neighbors whose front yard has been a mass of Southern wood ferns since the 1950s, are not seeing the ferns come back yet. They'd usually be up and growing by now. Cross your fingers that the ferns didn't succumb to our weird winter. I walked around their yard the other day and didn't see a single frond poking up.
BTW - Rouxcrew, I gave those neighbors one of your crinums. They planted it their yard right away and it is growing like a weed.
Totally awesome!
Tx-Flower-child, if you have gallon size plastic pots please save me some.
It seems like the trading has begun. *Snicker* LOL
Josephine & Sheila, let me know if you need me to help.
Yes, Stephanie, I was just thinking the same think that it sounds like trading has started. :D
Josephine - I'll check to see if any of the plastic pots are gallon size. I know that a lot are smaller altho I never pay much attention. I do know that some of the clay pots might be bigger.
Stephanie - I think it was you that I gave a bag or 2 of leaves to last fall. I'm going to be bagging up a lot of leaves in the near future. More than I need. And more than I can get my old yard guy to mow. (Looking for a new yard guy.) Anyway, if it was you and they were what you wanted, let me know in this pre- pre- pre-trading.
Can't promise but hope to get to Ft. W for the plant sale on April 5. If I do go, I can bring some pots b/c I think Josephine will be there. And can bring leaves if anyone else will be there. Or is this 'cheating'?
Yes, Josephine will be there, God willing, and you can bring the pots then, but no clay pots, Please.
I'll take leaves! I use them in my compost pile.
Trades have indeed begun! Looking forward to Round Up
I need to talk to Sheila after this weekend, than we will find out which dates are available.
Count me in as long as I'm not on call at work :)
Woot! Been too long since I've seen you.
Same here!! I miss all y'all (((HUGS)))
stephanie - do you care what kind of leaves? aside from the leaves from my red oaks, there are a lot of leaves blowing around from my neighbors' NOID trees. i can do just oak leaves or can mix 'em up.
Anything that will compost, but I'd prefer the oak leaves.
Okay, I've started potting stuff up for the RU. Neglecting the flower bed resulted in a lot of stuff to trade. LOL
I have a lot of stuff still potted up from my move. I'll have stuff to :)
I still have summer snowflakes potted up from last year, will have more stuff including some daisies and whatnot
What is a summer snowflake?
Leucojum
Blackfoot daisy? Is it woody?
Not Balckfoot daisy.
Not really woody. This is year 3 or 4 for them, they can be cut short or die back each year, but are still green at ground level for most of the winter, stem is a lot like chrysanthemum, and in spring they seem to pile on extra stems for propagation. Definitely perennial, do spread but not aggressively. Year 1 I only had a few, year 3 I had enough to fill the vases at my daughter's wedding, and this year I have lifted potted and transplanted some to my daughter's yard and hers are having a bloom or 2 now, 3 weeks after transplant. Very hardy
What about TX Lazy daisy, Aphanostephus skirrhobasis on that white daisy?
I've never been to a round up, I may go if it looks like I'll have stuff to trade, if that's okay? :)
I was also looking at Lazy daisies. In NPIN there are more than one however and I did not know which one.
I checked NPIN, these aren't closed in the morning and the flowers are 2 inches across, at least.
Too many petals for blackfoot. It's a mystery. But I have some in 4 inch pots anyway
SPWD, You are welcome at the RU's whether you bring anything to trade or not. Bring a covered dish and a door prize and enjoy the garden chatting.
Well in that case I'll bring a few dishes and door prizes! Lol really though, I should have a few things to share. Irises and daylilies if anyone is interested. Also some thai basil. Maybe some nursery pots and/or flats from a buddy who takes them to the dump every month! I'll ask if she can save me some in time for this round up :)
Please, I need gallon pots and flats, don't throw them away.

Becky, you don't have to have anything to trade to come to the RU and you won't leave empty handed!! LOL As Marty mentioned, just bring a covered dish and a door prize and you're in!
O.K. Everybody, I called the park to book the pavilion and the best date they have is
Sunday May 18th
I need to know right away if this will work because it costs $100.00 to rent and we might lose that date if we don't reserve it soon.
Please let me know so I can go ahead and reserve it, or not.
Hoping to hear from you.
Josephine.
