Congrats on the seed babies! Glad to hear that the BES are germinating. I've been a little nervous because I haven't tested them myself.
No, they are tip cuttings but I always nip off the growing tip so that the plant material focuses on growing roots instead of leaves. I looked at the plants tonight, and they do have new growth coming up now. :)
Yes the others are 'Wasabi' cuttings from a cutting you gave me. Love the color!
Indoor Gardens March 2014 Mid Atlantic
One of my blooming Orchids this one is a year old and first time it bloomed for me. A bit different, it is a ground orchid with green and white stripped leaves that disappear in the winter then the bloom stem pops up. There is something green just starting at ground level I think it should be the leaves returning but could be another bloom stem. Too early to tell what it is yet. I guess as orchids go it is a bit HoHum but I find it fun.
It's always a blast to see something brand new and that you have cared for. Well done!
Thank heavens for the sun. I'm hoping I can take a scraggly pot of Velvet Mocha coleus out to the picnic table to do a couple dozen cuttings. I had to clean up my dirt floor yesterday when some water seepage turned it into a mud floor.
Getting cramped in here. I need more windows! Just as I'm filling up with seeds and cuttings, some of the true indoor plants are about to bloom and need to be enjoyed too!
If I up pot the lettuce, then the tray of coleus has to go somewhere else. Ten good size ones, and a tray of cuttings that look just like typwc's , mostly velvet mocha, couple others. I'll have to set up a table by a window to get thru the next few weeks.
Delighted and surprised that my Dr Seuss has put out a sprout from the base.
Sally, what about doing a mini-greenhouse out of a plastic bin like this guy did? For your lettuces anyway.

Hm, thinking cap on...I have a styrofoam cooler...thanks typ
I better stop watering my seedlings from the top--just b/c i think they look a bit dry.
Might be just that 'smithereened" moss that is looking fry.....I better watch it!
Will let them dry out and try to water from the bottom....ahem.....G.
Now for some new ones...

What gorgeous flower! Sorry to not know this, but what is 'strep' short for?
Streptocarpus.
thanks, Gita!
Gorgeous!!!!!
My two are budding.
All through last year--i was sure mine were dying...almost no leaves--
the ones it had--were narrow, curled and browning....
However--since end of last year--it has rebounded--and now has a bunch
of strong leaves on it. I am sure blooms will soon follow...
G.
They really are spectacular. I potted up a few plants yesterday a couple of ferns and a terrarium.
VA_Wild_Rose: WOW! Gorgeous! 'Yarilo' is amazing!
Beautiful streps! I love the Kata Tjuta.
Mine have finally struggled through the winter. Currently, the 'Ruby', 'Blue Ice', and 'Bristol's Goose Egg' are blooming. The rest of them are still recovering from that pathetic winter look :o(.
Mine always give me their best in the cool winter months. It is now, with warm weather coming, that they will pout and give me a hard time!
VERY nice!
Holly---
What do you do when the plants in your terrariums when they grow to big? .
Do you separate them and pot them up in containers?
G.
Great terrarium Holly! I grow Adiantum ferns and I am always trying to get moss to "take" around the base of the ferns.
A lovely little world in a terrarium :o). Great job, Holly!
A friend of mine grows carnivorous plants in terrariums.

That is a great picture of Darius. I saw it when I was in the hospital, and dozed off mouse in hand before going back to the DG home page. Her picture was the first thing I saw when I woke up. It is probably just coincidence, but I really started to feel better and turn the proverbial corner right after that.
Holly, I love those terrariums. I have an antique terrarium that my friend Cheryl found at a yard sale that I need to plant up. Having never done one before, I'm enjoying seeing your pics for ideas.
Thanks everyone, The terrariums did fine while we were gone, one looks a little over wet so I took the top off as soon as I got home. When you first put them together and water them it takes a few days to get the moisture levels right and we didn't have time to do that before we left.
I wanted to cut back the Brazilian Plume Flower and never did get a chance and now it is covered with soon to open blooms. Oh and the GH is looking so great. Our plant sitter did a wonderful job. Also one of the Orchids is going to bloom soon, too. Pictures will follow when they all start blooming.
Welcome back, Holly! Glad all plants are doing well! Hope you had a nice, restful time away!
Holly--
I have about 5 Br. Plumes growing. They are pretty tall---
Been wondering myself if I should:
1--Pinch out the top growth
2--Cut the plant back and root the cut off top.
I hesitate--b/c the blooms come on the ends of each stem.
If I cut them back--I will lose potential blooms...
I know it will put out new stems which will bloom--just not sure which way to go...
my Mama is pretty big--and kind of ratty looking. She lost a lot of leaves
when the soil got a bit too dry. The stems are all woody--almost looks like
she is a bit on the old side....
The year it fell down and broke off every stem--and then re-grew--she bloomed
wonderfully--maybe 4 years ago now...
I think this would NOT be the best time to cut her back....I just feel that...

Pretty AV's sally/donner. Roulette Azur > Bristols goose egg. Although they get points for the name.
I'm curious as to how Bristol will do when she grows a bit more and can get uppotted to the size the Roulette is in. goose egg in reality has some pink on the lip, Roulette Azur is really purple, not blue
Pictures are rarely a suitable substitute for the naked eye. I wish they would still be in bloom for the swap.
They sure look good, Such lovely plants, mine is blooming now, they were nicest when we were away.
Sally, it can be potted up. Just don't make the pot size too much larger than the one it is in. I love the 'Goose Egg'. The pink is soft and pretty.
