BUda, TX(Zone 8b)

Okay, so I wasn't crazy after all..... LOL....

Parkville, MD(Zone 7b)

Yes, I'd like instructions on Tagging too.

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

I don't see the tag option...hope it shows it face soon :)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I don't see it either.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Me either.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

They've removed it, again.....

Probably to fix the glitches....

P-R-A-Y-I-N-G.....

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

OK.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

They're working on it right now...if you haven't noticed, there's a glitch with reply options, but they're getting things straightened out and flying right. The tag icon is the little folder in the top right hand corner of each page.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

So, Mel,
While the glitch is being fixed, would you please explain how the tags and bookmarks are different. I don't quite understand.

Thanks!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

What we had before were really bookmarks, not tags. (Think of the game of "tag" - you tag someone and say "you're it!" right? In the online world, that's what a true "tag" is - you are calling someone or something out by name. You can tag someone in a photo, either because it's them, or because you want them to see it and know you were thinking of them when you tagged it.

So what is a bookmark? Just like using a paperclip or piece of paper to mark your place in a book, you use an electronic bookmark to note a specific post, picture, or thread so you can find and refer back to it later.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

We've just changed the name basically. Whatever you bookmark will go into your existing file.

Folks really didn't understand the tagging process and were using it as a personal bookmarking tool. Tags are actually supposed to be general terms that make it easier for people to find similar information in a community, not a personal bookmarking system. But, the majority of the members used the feature as a personal bookmark tool, so we just clarified the name...it still works like you've always done it.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, to you both!

I get it....now!

So, If I wanted to find community information say, on "raised bed gardens," and did a tag search, I'd pull up loads of more literal info that others in the community had specifically tagged as "raised bed gardens," yes?

But, if I want to flag or mark a particular post say, in a gardening thread, that really was relevant only to me, or that I want to refer to later, I'd "bookmark" it, yes? And, I have the option of keeping it private in my little cloud, or posting it in the BIG cloud for everyone else to access, yes?

Doing the Dr. Higgins...^^_^^

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

You won't be able to do a tag search, except through your own bookmarks. You can always search the forums using the forum search.

There wont' be any more "big" cloud of tags...it never really worked as billed.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

thanks so much for explaining.

Uh, here's a goofy question — How do I now locate my "bookmarks"?
The icon in the upper right corner seems only to let me bookmark something,
not to view my saved items.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Go to your Member page and click on Bookmarks.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Ah ha! Found it. Thanks.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

You're very welcome.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

THANKS SOOO Much Terry, melody & techs!!

I haven't been on DG much recently as I've been too bogged down with other things, then we got a new computer with Windows 8 (which my husband just set up a few weeks ago) and we've been trying to slowly learn how to use it (definitely a steep learning curve, but doable).

I must say, I was reluctant to go into my familiar sites for fear nothing would work right, but thrilled to say so far, so good and DG LOOKS WONDERFUL on our new wide-screen monitor.

I just checked out the new "Bookmark" feature. It's very easy to use and I'm so happy all my old bookmarked items are all still there.

Once again, I really want to Thank You guys for all you do!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Awwww, thanks! Your post put a smile on my face this morning. Welcome back!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

THANKS, TERRY & MEL!

They're working like a charm!

Jackson, MO(Zone 6b)

So, I understand the "bookmarks" although I have never used it on the DG website but have on other websites. I wasn't aware of the bookmark feature.

I still don't quite understand the "tags".

So, has it been eliminated in place of bookmarks? If not, where is it? I guess the "tags" are actually the "names" of the bookmark?

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi birder17,
When you "Bookmark" an item you'll see a text box that says "Tags". This allows you to add words, names or notes that you associate with the item. If you click on "View in Cloud Form", you'll see all your Tags in alphabetical order.

If you have saved a lot of items, It's sometimes easier to find things by the tags since they can be very specific. For instance, using a tag "Daffodil" might make it easier to find an article titled "How to Care for Daffodils" since in list form it would be alphabetized by the letter "H" since the first word is "How" instead of "D" for Daffodil.

Hope this helps.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Thanks for that information. I have a lot of saved "tags" and was a bit confused
about how to keep them in an order that will make sense to me later.

Jackson, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks nutsaboutnature. I will have to experiment a little bit.

Jackson, MO(Zone 6b)

So, I "bookkmarked a post I wanted to keep and refer to later. The entire
"thread" was posted--not the one post I wanted with specific information. So, is that the way it works?

Some threads get really long. I was hoping I could "gleam" the info. that I wanted that pertained to my garden/s from specific posts.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

In the box to the left of each post is "bookmark this post". Select that command to save only that specific part of the thread.

When you call up that particular bookmark, only the one comment you bookmarked will appear.

I, too, love gleaning important info that a specific poster may have made.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

You can even bookmark a single picture from a post if you want. When you click to enlarge the picture there's a bookmark symbol on the upper right.

There seems to be a glitch right now with bookmarking a post from a thread, though. In the past I enjoyed saving individual posts. I believe I even tried it a couple days ago and it worked fine, but I tried it just now and kept getting the entire thread, although bookmarking just one picture is working great.

Jackson, MO(Zone 6b)

Whew! I am glad you experienced the same thing I did, or I would think it was me.

So, if I want to change the "bookmark" I did that saved the entire thread---can I re-do it later when the glitch is fixed?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Yes. Just go to the bookmark, and delete the tag name from the box where you originally typed it in. I think it should disappear.

Then, go to the individual post you want to save, and "bookmark this post".

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

If you already finished saving that entire thread you didn't want, it's super-easy to delete it. Just click on "My Info" and go to your bookmarks. Right next to each bookmarked item (on the right) it says "Edit" & "Delete". Just click on Delete.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

LOL!
