It was great to see everyone that was able to make it! We got a great couple of rainshowers last night in Austin - hope everyone else got some as well!
Spring Central TX RU Trade list
Thanks again to Joy and Dave for their wonderful hospitality! We were a small group this time but Im kinda beginning to enjoy the smaller gatherings. Just like the Fall RU in Arlington, I was more able to get to know the people there and talk more plants. It was great to have some of the Arlington group come down to get an advanced view of Spring. It was lovely weather. I was able to feed a baby goat this time. (not so many children for competition, chuckle). I had cuddled them before and carried them around but watching that little black girl with white ears drain that bottle in about 3 minutes was priceless. Have I told you I love goats? Well, OK.
I enjoy seeing what Joy is growing in her beds and watching her amazing dogs. Im also beginning to think of the 2 rescued donkeys as old friends even tho they change their names with the seasons. Yesterday, they were Hass 'n' pfeffer although I worried about saying that in front of them since it translates "stew".
On the way there, the wild flowers were outstanding, not just on the main highway but even the smaller roads leading to Joy's front gate. Blue Bonnets, Paintbrush, lyre-leaf sage, coreopsis, Evening Primrose and one I did not recognize. The road sides looked like a Monet.
Spring is good. Yeah.
edited to say that the cheddar was delicious and Joy had also made fresh yogert for the fruit salad. She also made these pickles that were hot and sweet, like candy, I need the recipe.

Thanks to everyone who made it this spring. Weather was a bit chilly in the morning, but was pleasant once folks started arriving. It was fun getting to chat and play "What is that?" In my front bed. It was so interesting to hear the ideas.
Food was wonderful, Dave was extremely proud everyone liked his smoked cheddar.
Every year someone gets lost a bit and this year was no exception, but we got them to the farm in time to enjoy the festivities. Preparedness was the name of the game with bunches of five gallon buckets that were filled with some of our farm compost. Jack got the short end of the shovel and ended up filling most if not all. Makes me glad I have a tractor!
Looking forward to the rest of spring.
