Well Hello All
Here is the Garden Chicken made by my DH out of spare parts and then he sent it to a buddy for powdercoating. Just have to get some eyes for her. Have tried a few and am looking for some good marbles, the big ones that are called Cats Eyes.
Bye the way we have blue skys and sun shinning but they do predict snow overnight.
Alberta Ann
What's happening in your neck of the woods - Feb 14
Well you tell that hubby of yours we all want one, my garden is mostly rusted art so tell Hm he doesn't even have to get fancy..all kidding aside, love it
I can see rakes, is the body from a bike? Not sure what the beak is??
How creative he is?
Drab outside, about -3' feels like the tropics after the frigid temps we've had
Hey there Betty Bicycle forks for legs and a spade for the back and body with the rake for wings and a small hand tool for head feathers and the beak is a tooth from the pick ups on a combine. Rebar feet give it stability and it weighs quite a bit. The powdercoat will be fine outside but it could "Walk" away so I will have to put it in the back yard and use a pin in the ground.
Yes my hubby is very inventive with metal.
Alberta Ann
Had a whole story written, and, POOF, the Dave's Garden Faerie took it into her garden to use it for mulch !!
All I want to say, is YAY CANADA !!!
What a wonderful day for them, and, us as well.
Up in the air re the funeral tomorrow, the weather seems to change almost hourly ..
Be careful out there Dianne, Betty too ..
I'm outta here
~M~
BIG 'atta boy' for your DH Ann .. what a great job on the garden piece !
I think you should anchor it someway as well, or, who knows, it could for a walk you weren't planning on it to go on !!!
HOORAY HOORAY for Canada's WOMEN curlers and Hockey players .. my heart (and throat) both got a workout today !!
Thought going to the gym would be a break, but, all the big flat screens were on the games ..when Jennifer Jones made that last shot one lady about fell off the tredmill !!
Hope the men do as well.
Still 'up in the air' re tomorrow .. seems the storm is making it's own decisions .. will make definitive decision in the morning re attending the funeral.
Dianne, I sure do hope you can make your MRI appt tomorrow, but I know you'll be cautious .. good luck either way ..
Betty, hope your weather stays OK too ..
Having salmon for supper, best mix up the coating for it and peel some sprouts ...
Take care everyone
~M~
GO CANADA
PS .. can't believe it, I found post #1 .. robbed the faerie of her mulch LoL
Ab Ann......... maybe put some re-bar along the back of the legs, to extend the birdie into the ground? Hammer it in!!
I LOVE that bird - hmmm 4 hours away from me...... could I borrow your hubby's creativity? lol just kidding.... !!
Stormy here, half snow/rain/ice
Glad to be inside
Picked up Chinese, treat for myself then going for hot bath then to bed..
Mad mad mad so might as well go to bed, tomorrow is another day
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have feet and feet of heavy snow!!
Thunder Bay is virtually shut down .. schools, businesses etc.
Had to shovel in order to open the door and let the dogs out .. I squished out but they were so nervous about what was on the other side of the door .. then, once they did get out, they had to follow me as I shoveled (dug out) at place for them to GO ..
Gord is out snowblowing, and Lorna finally made it to the garage to get her machine out.
No class for Gord, no borthday lunch for my BFF, and, no funeral .. feel so bad for the family as many will not be able to attend .. don't know if they can even re schedule as the 10 daughters are all here now, and have been for a week, likely they will be heading back to their homes.
Hope everyone is doing well
GO CANADA again today .. curling is on now, followed by hockey !!!
~M~
M you have snow and I have ICE. Trade ya!!! It has been raining all night so the lane has turned to a slick sheet of ice. You cannot find purchase either on foot or on a vehicle. When I 'tried' to take the dogs out at 6 am I realized there was no way I was getting out of the lane in time to get to my MRI appointment. I came right back in and called to cancel knowing I would get voice mail but I wanted to make sure they could get someone in to fill the cancellation.
Ann has freezing rain in Ottawa and we are to change over to that and snow as the temps go down today. Take care Ann if you have to go out. Ottawa is such a hearty town it doesn't close down for much. I can remember once at the Ottawa Christmas Craft Show there was a terrible snowstorm and people cross country skied to the show.
Be careful M, all 3 of you as you dig yourself out. That's too bad that the weather is not co-operating with the funeral arrangements. I imagine trying to get 10 sisters together at 1 time is like trying to herd cats. Not to make light of the situation as it is such a stressful time for the
family.
Betty I hope you got some sleep or at least some rest. Did I miss why you were "mad, mad, mad"?
Love the yard chicken Ann. Too bad you have to worry about it 'walking' away as it should be out for all to see.
Susan how goes the battle? So happy to read Bob is enjoying his job. Is it FT hours? Will he have to work shifts once his training is over?
Stay safe and warm everyone.
Dianne
I've a little of what you all have
School bus cancelled, some snow, some rain, touch of ice but nothing as serious as all of you
Do be careful out there all of you
Maybe staying in for the day wouldn't be a bad idea
Mad re doctor Dianne
Betty, must have been a disappointing appt, or, he cancelled ?
Sure hope it wasn't anything too serious.
Lorna's Dad has had a VERY sore back for a couple of weeks .. FINALLY someone READ his bone scan, his back is BROKEN !!!
Seems he fell a while back, never told anyone !
No special Rx as he has been living with it now for 2-3 weeks, will heal on its own.
I have pics to attach but want to say .. I HATE ICE!! Dianne, please be careful ..
Several years back, I was out walking Lilly, just around the property in March or April .. we had a light misty typa stuff happening .. I took a stop out by the garage and BOOM!! Down I went onto my RIGHT hip !! Lilly was SO concerned .. she wouldn't leave me .. and, i started to laugh and cry at the same time .. Gord was out, and Lorna was just freshly home from hospital, she saw me go down, and, the ONLY thing that got me UP was my fear she'd call 911 !! Lots of time wonder if that fall was not the demise of my right hip?
Watching the Mens curling, don't want to say anything too soon, but, I do predict a Canadian gold medal ^_^
Lorna and Gord are out with the snowblower AND the Mule, this is a heavy snowfall and, I pray you guys do NOT get it !!
the pics are just from within the dogs compound ..
And, in one pic Lilly looks like she has a 'dirty hiney', but, it's a piece of bark from the woodpile ..
Later ..
~M~
Rita was out, said it was glare ice! I have no intention of going anywhere today and might even stay in jammies.
"M" saving my voice for the hockey game this afternoon
sure did enjoy the girls hockey yesterday..heart went out to USA team, could see the heartbreak. Suzanne reminded me the alternative was seeing our gals in distress, but still, heartbreaking!
"M" was my doctor..of course he says not much more he can do, just got to live with the pain ..take drugs etc. I'm NOT ok with that..it's almost been a year and pain just intensifies..guess he got to me when he said likely fibromyalgia, no answers for that..told him it was a cop-out when they don't know what else it could be
so have a bag full of prescriptions and therapy requisitions
needless to say I'm not a happy camper
(((Betty))) Living with such a degree of pain is very difficult. Right M? I so lost my cool when a doc told me the same thing .... I responded by saying "I bet you wouldn't just live with the pain and take meds to try and tame it." He had the audacity to tell me No he wouldn't be able to just live with it. I hate taking the meds that diminish the pain as they make me fuzzy headed.
Rain has stopped, wind is kicking up and temp is rapidly falling.
Love the pics of the pups in the snow M!
D
Ditto from me, Dianne has it right. (((B and M)))) and ((((D))))
Sorry for your Snow and Ice. "M" Wood stuck to Lily's butt, LOL fuzzy dogs have that problem!
Ice is bad stay away from it as it will get you one day for sure.
Susan i will be securing it for sure.
Sorry to hear about the Funeral trouble, that is a tough one for sure. Wow 10 Sisters!
All in all our weather is fine, going to be a tad cold this weekend.
Alberta Ann
Thanks Dianne and "M"
do know you are and have dealt with similar pain
for me to come home and in bed most night by 6, to be taking drugs all day to take the edge off, needing stronger meds to get through the night doesn't seem right and I'm tired of hearing about getting older..I was older last year when I was a-ok
I know I have casing off the nerve in my neck, have lived with that for 30 years, hips, ok will watch what I'm doing and entire body including aching in the jaws and I don't even have teeth..shaking my head
he said I know you'd rather me tell you you have something such as cancer right? I told him at least theat was a diagnosis, rough one but I would deal with it..
meant to add about the funeral..perhaps in their own home they could do something to honor their loss..difficult for all under the circumstances..much the same at Christmas and NewYears when Jim was dying and died, storms took away our chance to spend more time with him in his last days.
Yoi, Betty .. dontcha just hate that ploy!
Are you not seeing a rheumatologist? A doc that deals specifically with arthritis ..IMHO you need a course of prednisone .. had I not had it last year, I swear I would have jumped off the Sleeping Giant into Lake Superior, however, how would I have MOVED to have gotten there LoL
Like Dianne says, living in pain with those dang meds is THE PITS !!!!! Prunes became my FRUIT of choice !!
If you aren't seeing a 'rheumatologist', I would ask to be referred ..
I was fortunate my blood levels indicating a HIGH level of inflammation, were off the wall.
Have resorted to baking, made buns, and now sausage muffins.. both easy easy recipes.. turned out great .. got both recipes from FBook ^_^
Still snowing, all you can hear out there are ploughs and snowblowers in the distance ..
Think I'll take the crew out for a play time .. might as well enjoy the nice temps !!
~M~
We talked about prednisone but because of the kidneys am limited and doesn't want to give it to me until I an last no longer..
Winds are picking up here..watch it doesn't pick up the furries. Lol
Rita is strong on homeopathy so she says we will get a list together and she will doctor me up before she leaves next month
go Canadians
great game 1-0
now on to the next for Gold
Don't know if I'll be able to watch the gold medal game on Sunday with Sweden .. man o man, that was a heart stopper !!
You're correct Betty, Prednisone WOULD harm kidneys that aren't funtioning at their peak .. a marvelous drug, but, with such awful side effects .. has to be monitored so closely.
Hopefully Rita can help you out .. fingers crossed.
Seems to me that the incidence of Fibro and it's cousins is rising, I wonder if it isn't environmental ?
Have a colleague with FIbromyalgia, she has had to give up her teaching position as she is never sure how she will be from one day to the next ..
Took the dogs out for a play about, but, the wind has come up gang busters here .. Piper is NO hero when a tarp blows or a noisy car goes by ..
It's Friday, thinking about taking the 'pills' 4 at supper, and the other 4 at bedtime .. just can't believe the day is here again ..
TTFN
~M~
Go for it "M"' cheer the Canadians on..we are 3rd right now re medals right. USA then Russia then we Canadians..still time to pick up more.
Don't you think the fibromyalgia is a catch all?
Kept asking me if I was under stress?? Yes, stress from continual pain..nope, my nerves, depression? PLEASE surely better answer than that.
Didn't eat yet today, left over Chinese sounds good
WOO HOO .. woot woot ... WAY TO GO CANADA !!
What a game!
Excellent hockey ...sad to see the flame extinguished .. and, rather curious as to how South Korea will handle the Games in 4 years ..
Re 'Fibromyalgia' being a catch all Dx .. well, I USED to think so, until I looked after couple of patients with it. It is diagnosed by triggering 'hot spots', there are (I believe) 18 of these 'trigger points', if the patient responds to pressure on at leas 11 of these areas, they are presumed to have FibroM .. I have included a link from the Mayo Clinic ..
http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/fibromyalgia/basics/definition/con-20019243
The patients I cared for were actually despondent .. ready to give up, but, through different types of therapy I do believe they were able to move forward .. physio, occupational therapy, etc.
Did your doc change his mind about your hips requiring surgery ?
Wasn't too bad a Saturday following the chemo drugs Friday, for THAT I am everso thankful ..
I wanted to watch the Olympics and did ..
Today was just amazing .. watched the closing ceremony at the gym as Lorna did her workout, had been at home watching the hockey .. feel I would pass any type of cardiac stress test after that LoL
Making MOOSE (beef ) Stroganoff for supper .. a family favourite ..
C O L D here, with a BRISK north wind dragging temps down to -25C
Supposedly MORE snow on its way as well, almost afraid to check the Weather Liars site ^_^
Lordy ladies .. where does TIME go .. already the end of Feb., and, it seems to me the weeks are flying by.
My nursing student, Sean, has picked up and perked up and is back on track .. lots to make up though, but, he has a goal .. he wants to be an OR nurse so badly .. I KNOW he'll make it too!
Best get going here ..
Take care all
~M~
M how are you feeling today? Hope you came around faster this weekend. Have been sending positive thoughts and vibes your way... but I have to admit I have also been sending thoughts so the snow would stay with you and not move east.
Very bright sunny day here but the temp is falling quickly.
Betty did your DM come for a visit? When does Greg leave for his adventure?
It might be sunny but the wood stove is still smacking its lips crying "More". So off I go to feed it.
Stay safe and warm everyone!
Dianne
We crossed M. Happy to read the residual effects of the pills were not as bad this weekend. Would have been a shame for you to have had to miss that hockey game!
D
Well .. I hasten to say, "WE HAVE HAD IT"!
This nasty cold deep freeze 'Polar Vortex', whatever you want to call it, is just getting us down in this area.
I know it'll pass and we'll soon be complaining about the heat and humidity, bugs and bears etc ..
Not much happening here .. i have blood work to be done today, and, I want Lorna to go in and see to having her blood checked as she is bruising so easily.
She takes a blood thinner daily, and I do think it needs adjusting ..
Off to the gym first though .. just almost nauseates me to think about going out ..
Take care
~M~
Well .. we are giving thanks to the gods who give us our blessed FRIENDS ^_^
Wood has been in HIGH HIGH HIGH demand here bouts, and, when Gord was finished teaching his class this morning, one of his hunting buddies offered him a face cord of wood !!!
Seems he and his wife have a 'decorative fireplace' functional, but only used at Christmas Holiday time ..
Am including the editorial from todays paper .. as follows !

Winter fuels in short supply
Friday, February 28, 2014
Good King Wenceslas, the Christmas carol, tells the story of a king braving harsh winter weather to help “when a poor man came in sight, gath’ring winter fuel.” Were the king around Northwestern Ontario these days, he would have no shortage of subjects in need of his benevolence.
This winter is taking a terrible, and in some cases unacceptable, toll on the fuels we use to keep warm.
There are reports there is no more seasoned firewood for sale in Thunder Bay. Burning green wood in stoves can quickly lead to creosote buildup and chimney fires.
Thursday, some 2,000 residents of Longlac and two nearby First Nations had to be evacuated to nearby Geraldton after natural gas service was lost with wind-chilled temperatures sinking to dangerous levels. A regulating station lost pressure due to the extreme cold.
Following repairs, Union Gas planned to send personnel to reignite pilot lights at every affected home.
On Jan. 16, a Lappe resident wrote here to say it took his propane supplier 11 days to respond to his request for fuel and the price had gone from 46 cents per litre last year to 90 cents. A flood of similar complaints ended with one from a Nipigon customer who paid $1.25 per litre, up from 77 cents on Dec. 11.
Propane companies should have known better. Last winter was a warm exception to the Canadian weather pattern. But they had sold so much propane to the U.S. that the National Energy Board warned in November of “very low levels” of supply for the Canadian market. Ottawa has launched an investigation. The Canadian Propane Association blamed transportation for delays, perhaps because rail tank cars are being monopolized by oil companies.
In December, Thunder Bay motorists scrambled to find gasoline for several days after stations began running out when a tanker train derailment west of the city delayed delivery.
It seems clear that fuel industries’ supply models are not geared to unexpected delays. Any of these emergencies could have been significantly worse in this long, cold winter. Supply and demand are more predictable than this and the fuel companies need to build in contingencies for winter conditions.
Suffice to say, this winter has given me, and a lot of other folks, a much deeper respect for the pioneers of this country !!
~M~
I second that "M" and hurrah for your cord of wood..who would have thought it would be so exciting to get a cord of wood..know you have secondary heat which gives you peace of mind but Lordy those poor people who don't.
Loved reading the newspaper piece.
Was having problems this morning, hemostat wouldn't register higher than 68 so put the 3 fireplaces on. Rita checked and we found someone had touched the fan..all is well, I've had my bath, afghan on me, movie..all toasty.
Just read about the accident down the road on Monday, a 40 yr old man from town went to the aid I'd a woman in distress on the highway 400 and a truck hit him.
Lucky that in that. 96 vehicle pile up yesterday no one lost their life..hate to see how much it will cost the insurance companies.
When I went to Foodland early this a.m. It was -30. Bitter bitter cold but sun did shine for a bit his a.m.
Am trying to decide if I should go to car wash, so much build up at front tires due to slush then frozen, can hardly turn wheels.
I take my car for a bath almost every 10 days just to get the salt and ice from it ..
Can't walk beside the car or reach inside without getting white salt powder on pants and /or jacket.
How awful about the "Good Samaritan' .. you just NEVER know ....
Cold persists here .. used to it (almost) .. just thrilled re the 'gift of wood', Gord will buy Fred a bottle of Scotch I think ..
Off to watch Corrie ^_^
~M~
Just checked Labrador, started to laugh, here I'm worried about him, night temps -21 and for me -36
But, big but, I'm not sleeping out in the element in shacks. Lol
Race starts tomorrow morning
Can't wait to start watching his location for 5 days via satellite
They just announced the hellicopter landed which means they will all be safe, it follows them continuously.
Wishing Greg and the crew, good luck and safe travels ..
Have you got the link? I know I saw it on here somewhere, can't find it now ..
Looks like MARCH is coming in like a Lamb, albeit a COLD Lamb, sun is bright in the sky, and, the ever present WIND ..
Took 'the meds' last night, fightin a hummdinger of a headache this morning, may go and lay down again, but, as usual, can't shut my brain OFF !!
This too shall pass ..
Have a perfect weekend everyone
~M~
Thank you,
although I've had a zillion calls from family and friends I've been fighting a terrible headache since yesterday. Melanie made a beautiful supper so I will try to go, eat and run, hate doing it but it's better after her efforts to not show up.
Happy Birthday Betty!!!Wishing you peace, health and happiness.
Bitter cold here again. I have had it with winter... just absolutely had it. Heavens even the pups don't want to go outside to play.
Stay safe and warm everyone.
Dianne
It's late, but I hope you've had a great day, Betty. Keep on celebrating.
Betty Happy B day and celebrate for at least 1 week without a headach!
Alberta Ann
thanks for the birthday wishes..going to pharmacy, doctor sent over prescription re headaches, seem when I took blood pressure it was over the top..here is hoping meds will ease the headaches...likely got up from dealing with him diagnosis lol
always something when you get older!!!!
was -34 this morning, brrrr
spring will soon be here
Hope the meds for hypertension work Betty.
For you to have had a headache of that degree (putting your BP up) , well, just a good thing you had a BP cuff at home !
Same old, same old here .. cold and sunny ..
Lorna washed the salt from her truck today, tomorrow I take my car for a bath ..
Off to peel potatoes
~M~
home and in bed but not before I picked up meds. pharmacist said to start takings meds in the a.m. but when I told him the readings he told me to take it tonight and for next few nights then start in the a.m.
I had bough years ago one of those grain pads you put in micro..with back of head feeling like it will explode I decided I would micro and set my head on it..seems to help a tad.
calling for a bit of snow in tomorrow, but intense cold still with us; as for the car I washed it yesterday, don't know how the wheels were able to move with them cased in ice. luckily the doors didn't freeze solid lol
off to check cains quest then nap time;
everyone just count the days until spring..enough of us counting that Mother Nature I'm sure will get the hint, if not we might see that white stuff well into May
Well, I do beieve SPRING is heading our way!
I am not foolish enough to say we'll have NO MORE snow, that'd be unrealistic.
But, temps in the +C category are wonderful.
Typical sluggish Saturday for me, took my drugs last night. I am stubborn, and won't lay in bed waiting to feel more 'human', I have things to do.. perhaps I'll nap later.
Shocking news re the aircraft missing from the radar on the way to Beijing .. a Malaysian jet with 249 aboard ...
SOOOOOOOOOSSSSSAAANNNNNNNNNNNNN .. wondering where she might be ?
If you're 'lurking', HIYA ^_^
my friend in Cowtown says the weather there is stellar.
ViAnn, hope all is well with you and your busy schedule
AlAnn .. how's the Geraniums doing ?
Betty .. feeling better ???
Off i go, going to make a blueberry pie from the berries we froze last August ..
Take care
~M~
morning all,
yes, actual blood pressure meds seems to have taken away the terrible headaches I've been having so that is a plus.
sun is out today but its cold..Friday felt like spring had arrived.
did look at extended forecast and still snow for 2 or 3 days in the next week, wishing it could be when I'm in Florida lol
ahhhh, sure would like a piece of your pie, blueberry is one of my favorites..drats thought I had some sweets in the house but not, might have to take a quick run to Foodland bakery.
Starting to unwind now that I know the boys are safe, took 3 prize and $20,000 for their efforts..laughing, probably cost them $30,000 for travelling, work on machines, gas etc .
But they did it..think Melanie said Greg would be home Monday night/Tuesday morning if they don't encounter any storms leaving Labrador
Sure wish Susan would post that all is ok
