NYC this morning. All quiet now. But our flight to Florida was canceled yesterday afternoon, and we have not been able to reach anyone to re-book :-(
weather in the garden #136
Staying at 34° some rain as the snow which was still on the front walk has melted. Strong winds, however--I always have trouble getting sleep on windy nights. Too much noise.
Close call, Lucy! Pam, sorry about your flight....wish I was headed there! My stepdaughter is supposed to fly back from Aruba today, but don't know if she will be able to.....After 10" yesterday, another 4" fell this morning....what an absolute mess ......the plow became stuck in my drive yesterday.....I hope he comes back today, because I cannot get out, the town plow has dumped a foot of icy mess at the top of the drive.......
27 and trying to snow again. just flurries now.
lucky lucy
We went grocery shopping again today & notice another week spot in the trunk of that birch tree. DH will have to work on that, or more trouble. 34°, another day with that temp tomorrow & in the 20s next day.
Thankful it didn't do more damage.
yes only damage done that people had to work & tree trunk lying in the front yard. When we backed out of the driveway to day I could see weak spot lower down on the trunk. We are going to have o deal with more snow tomorrow afternoon which I am not looking forward to.
We are getting another blizzard!

Pixie....you hit the jackpot! Unless you consider I have 2" of solid ice in my drive, & the snow is supposed to start soon.....hopefully, only 2" but over the ice? Eeeek!
all this snow talk - I have to get outside and get skiing.
We're at the airport, LGA. Headed for Fla via Minneapolis. All flights are oversold and standby lists are endless. We came 3 hrs early to make sure we got seats. And it's snowing.
34° Starting to have rain (I think). 4-8" of snow predicted.
it was nice going x-skiing with the snow coming down
One good thing Pam: Minneapolis knows how to deal with snow!
I hope you are airborne and in Florida before long. it won't take long to warm up.
only about 3" of new snow, but heavy wet type. A branch from the beech tree in the front yard is bent way down. I hope that I can get a photo in the morning. Cape Cod got the brunt of the snow this time.
Another 3" here.....plowed out my driveway around 5 this morning.......Pam, how flat it is there! My wolfhound came from Minnesota......have fun in FL, wish I was a stowaway!
Thanks, Marilyn... I hope you're plowed out by now!
75 in Fort Myers... :-)
About the same fell for us. Cape Cod got the worst. However, the snow weighted down the blueberry bushes which pushed our mailbox off its base & DH had to fix that this morning.
never got to shoveling the back porch and front walkway until today - the 3" crush made for a tough time.
snowed about an inch this am.
coming here on tues. J2
Pam, Ft. Myers Beach was a favorite visit for us......lots of great birding in the area! Warm up expected in a few days, but another 2-4" will fall first! Temp up to 14 right now.......
I just wonder what this is going to the garden. Last spring the mini-maxi thermometer showed 16 as the coldest temp during the winter. I've been zone-pushing and getting away with it up until now, but this is real zone 5 weather! Oops!
Some shrubs may d, but those which have been around are fine with the temp but can be damaged by heavy snow. Our 'Nova Zembla' rhododendron has had broken branches. the poor leaves close up to nothing, but on a sunny day like this one has expanding leaves even though it is 23°/
Snowing....again! Large flakes, temp is 20.....going up to 30, so wet & heavy snow adding to my poor roof's total.......Pam, we've had some very cold nights.......many below zero, some at -15....but your garden has had a nice snow blanket!
Snow predicted to start this afternoon. Perhaps 3" in our area? 16 & overcast sky.
had at least 6" overnight. the county was under a level 3 snow emergency(no driving unless emergency vehicle). now dropped to level 2
6" and still coming
Weather report said 7" just fell in Natick and I'd say that was about right. Still, it's very slushy deep snow. I don't see any wisdom in staying off the road if it's still necessary to commute home. (Gov. suggested waiting and letting the crews clean up). Temp in my car was around 22, so it ought to freeze tonight.
only about 3" here, but wet enough to bring a branch of the beech tree looking like it is hugging the ground.
42 right now. snow will melt for a bit before it turns colder again on Fri.
Lucked out with only 2"....the state east of the CT River got the most, up to 8"......rain this afternoon....that will be fun, considering my driveway is 90% ice.......
25° & bright sun
By this weekend, it should be around 50. Great weather for the Connecticut Flfower and Garden Show Thursday -Sunday. (Hartford)
We are going to an iris meeting on Sat. No snow expected.
Sun is shining this afternoon. Lots of melting, especially yesterday. Wearing a shirt with flowers on it.. I am hopeful
Rain & in some places snow mix this afternoon. Perhaps in the 40s tomorrow.
The sun is melting all the icicles on the roof, but the driveway still is all ice......I'll get out when it melts somewhat, hopefully in the next hour! Warm weather for a few days, but rain is forecast, too.......
