They are now saying it may be close to a foot of snow in some areas here.

OK! I will post the same pictures of the house across the street
and looking at my back yard.
The forecast now is 8"-12" here...

1PM and
2:30PM

I think you have more than me at this point
2-3 inches here?

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

It has been snowing here in Lucketts since 7:30 or 8:00 this morning. Luckily, they announced the federal govt closing just as I was leaving the house. I hate when they don't make an announcement until I'm already half way or all the way to work LOL. I'm so glad for the day off to catch up on things at home. Mike is out snow plowing for the town of Leesburg, and with the snow continuing on he'll probably be there most of the night.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

I think we've got maybe 1/2 to 1 inch currently... but I ain't gonna stick my nose out to take any pictures 'cause Baby It's Cold Outside!! Besides, y'all have more than I do; heck, you can still actually see black road through what I've got at the moment. =/

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Brrr, it IS cold. Looks like we already have 4-5", with no end in sight. I think they are predicting about 8" here.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

we also have 4-5 inches now and Cold.

Parkville, MD(Zone 7b)

aspen: I work for the Fed. Gov't too and I will say that they've gotten MUCH better in the last few years about making decisions on weather closings earlier. It used to be that I would get to work and then they would tell people that there was a two-hour delay. :( I leave my house at 5:40am. Now they send out the email at ~3:30 am so I can just check my phone and then roll back over and fall back asleep till I have to telework at 6:30.

I think I would say 6-8" here right now.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

We have about 7 1/2" so far. Stay warm!!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Are we tired of snow yet?

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hehehe. Nope. I missed the two snows in December, so I am liking this. Only cuz I don't have to go out in it.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I went out and shoveled my steps, my walkway, my driveway and
a path to my mail box. Cleaned off my car too.
I have to be at work at 8AM tomorrow--and this will make less work in the morning...

Amazingly--the snow was as light as powder. No moisture in it at all.
I could have blown it off my car...

It is now 7PM--and there is still a very fine flurry going on outside. Like powder...
It IS very cold--as there is the wind....

Don't expect to see to many shoppers at the HD tomorrow...
G.

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

we have 11 inches so far according to my neighbors tape measure...

took me 3 hours to get home from work tonight!! could have gone to VA or MD and had a visit with some of you guys lol

be careful going to work in the am G.
I think I'm going to have to call out.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

There have been some terrible accidents on the Washington Beltway today -- everybody, be safe.

I hope the snow is heavy enough to protect the vulnerable plants otuside! A good snow cover can protect, but as Gita said, this snow is really light-weight. I had wrapped all my plants back when the temperatures dipped earlier, but I unwrapped them when it got warm... and didn't think to re-do it in time for this cold snap.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This is an open invite---

To anyone traveling on I-95 on their way home from wherever--in horrible weather--
I live about a mile and a half off of it at Exit 67.

I can comfortably sleep 3 people. have 3 bathrooms--lots of food.
maybe someone just needs a break from driving....or wants to spend the night.

It's so peaceful tonight:

The weather forecast has changed fairly dramatically since this morning. As of this morning, the forecast for tonight's low was 5 degrees, and for tomorrow's low, 10 degrees. Now those figures are 1 degree and 5 degree respectively for our zipcode. We are dragging containers inside....

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

We finally did get snow as predicted, but it was slow coming. Was supposed to be finished down this way by 9:00 last evening, but at 10:30 it was coming down fatter and more steadily than at any point during the day. I think the front really was moving more slowly than originally expected.
We only got maybe 3 inches down here, but what was weird is that, when it started, it was freezing rain and sleet, then the snow started falling on top of that; Nice frozen slickery conditions! < =/

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Sally, I was sitting here at the 'puter watching the sun climbing above the snow covered junipers when I clicked on your link Rather cool in spite of looking at all that white stuff I'm going to have to move.:-}
7*F here this AM with a good 8-10"s. I'll start just as soon as I get the energy to put on all the layers of clothing needed to deal with the frightful cold.

Mount Laurel, NJ

We have about a foot of snow here in Mt. Laurel, but it's deeper along my front walk where the wind blows. I sure hope someone comes by to help me dig out. I used my leaf blower to blow some off the car and away from the front door. It worked pretty well as the snow was very light. Wow, I"m not sure I can shovel this stuff. It's getting harder and harder to do. I may be immobile until it thaws!
They did plow the street. The driveway has about 2ft of packed snow at the end. This is the only time I'm glad I have a one car driveway!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

We're up to a whopping 15*F, but I still need to warm my hands and feet. If I put on enough to stay warm I can't work, it's just the extremities that get cold. Besides breaks allow me to sit and hydrate. It's amazing how much moisture you loose breathing in these temps especially with your core sweating. There is too much snow for the leaf blower, so I'm shoveling then running the blower for a dry surface. My tractor shut down last night on the way back to the barn, so as soon as I get the ashes and coal done I get to troubleshoot that. At least we didn't get that much after it quit.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Oh phooey!! I hope it's not too terribly cold where the tractor is. Hopefully it got stuck in a spot where it's behind a wind-break and yet in the sunshine. :) I hope, too, that it's a really easy fix, like, ran out of gas. ;) (or something just as simple and easy).

DH and I got the driveway, porch, and trucks swept/shoveled off earlier and YIKES it's cold out there, and the winds make it a ton worse. You're right Ric, the breathing of the really dry cold air is downright painful, it's so dry!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

In for another break. Just ready to check on the tractor. My fingers are crossed.

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

good luck coleuslover!! we got trapped in too. I had to call out today. I haven't moved my car yet today since I pulled in last night. We got a path to the bird feeders dug out today along w/the driveway. I'm off again on Friday if you need help digging out. If you are in dire need I'm sure Harry wouldn't mind helping you tomorrow. let me know asap though so I can ask him

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Eeek, hope they don't freeze stuck that way. < =/

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Wind, what fat-and-happy (but frozen) little birdies!!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

same here temp wise.
I had a lovely afternoon of errands, had Target and Walmart all to myself! THe first time I ever shopped at Walmart without getting an attitude problem in my head about the crowds. I needed a wiper blade and iodine, so where else can you go for both at once? THen could not seem to get the old rear wiper blade to cooperate , and didn't want to keep messing with it in that 15 degree cold.

Main roads are in good shape but our whole neighborhood is snowpack/ ice covered and secondary roads around me got scraped once and salted not yet. I doubt there will be school even tomorrow. The deep freeze is a game changer in this snowfall event.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

0 degrees!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now this is the weather that used to let us ice skate on natural ponds around here. Ice is rough, and you risk your neck but its so fun seeing the shore from the other side, to me. Dad was born in WI so he grew up with it.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Here in Baltimore/DC area some kind of insanity is taking place this weekend...
It is a most worthwhile Fund-raiser for the Special Olympics.

It is called:--"The Polar Bear Plunge"...Happens every year in the middle of winter...
This winter it has to hurt! The temps are way below freezing (15*). The water temps are 30*.

Hundreds of people, young and old--celebrities, Media people, etc. have vowed
to plunge for $$$ donations to "The Cause"...Some are dressed--some are in bikinis...

There is also the category of "Super Plungers". These brave souls plunge
every hour for 24 hours. Often these can raise 10,00$ per person. NO sleep here!

Of course--there ware huge warming tents and Medical personnel on site--as neede...

All this is for a worthy cause--and the participants hype themselves up to do this.
This year--it has to be tough....

You can Google it for more info--Here is a link to the Opening Super Plunge....

Parkville, MD(Zone 7b)

It's so cold and the water so choppy that they can canceled the plunge for the first time ever! Hopefully they will still raise lots of $ for SE. My nephew participates in the Iowa games and it is so special to him and all of our family.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I could use some sunshine today, my mood is almost as gloomy as the skies, forebolding more snow.
On the lighter side, a camp I attended in the 60s used a mountain lake for swimming, spring fed it was very cool, to say the least. On the last day of the week we had the Polar Bear swim. Before breakfast everyone wanting to, went for a dip.The cool mountain air and cool lake felt like ice water, giving rise to the reputation among older campers, that the night before trucks of ice were dumped in the lake for the sole purpose of making it colder.
Talk about conspiracy theory among tweens.ROTFLMAO

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

My niece is supposed to do this for her sister, Emma. Emma will be 13 this year and loves participating in special Olympics games. It is definitely a worthy cause.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

My son went to the Polar bear Plunge about three years ago- they got one round in but then canceled his plunge and the rest f the day- it was snowing. He was very disappointed, after raising his minimum entry fee.

Mount Laurel, NJ

Wow, thanks WIND for the offer! Some kids came by with a snow blower and shoveled for me. I was real thankful, but you know, I wish they did a better job. I just now 'finished' it. They cut a path down the sidewalk, leaving about 8in on each side, which was now melting soas to have a nice ice cover for tomorrow! Same with driveway, leaving about a foot on each side. GRRR. Next time I'm going to bundle up and go out and inspect and not pay them unless they do a better job! It was pretty easy to do today though, since it was slushy. Now it's ALL CLEAR and drying nicely! I have a new driveway and contractor said for me not to put salt on it. I wonder why!

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

glad you got dug out coleuslover!
good luck tomorrow with this bitter COLD!!!!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Are they calling for extended cold period again. Think I heard that we are to have very low temps for the next week. But then when was the last time we didn't have very low temps. The GH is costing a fortune to heat this year and this morning the temp was down to 35 in the GH haven't been down to see what damage might have been done this time.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Erg, sorry for the greenhouse woes!
Its a balmy 12 outside here right now.
Much of our snow melted down yesterday ? in the sun and near-to-breaking freezing air temps. It's a Big smack on the face to any zone-pushers in the crowd. But bodes well for peony bloom.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Oh goodness Holly, I'm sorry for your greenhouse woes too. =( YUK!!

Yeah, I've heard as well that it's supposed to be really really cold for at least 3-4 days, (well) below freezing for the highs. I'm far enough South that that band of snow that's hitting the Southern part of the country is predicted to hit where I live between today and late tonight. They're only predicting maybe an inch or so but I don't think we'll even get any. North winds typically mean no snow.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

My husband is super excited about the prospects for our lilacs this year -- he thinks the cold might trigger some fierce blooming.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I hope so too! I've been waiting on one for a couple years.
