Today (1/12/2014) I went to the company review area (Products & Sources) to see how Park Seed Co. is doing now (unfortunately, not well at all). I have not looked at that part of DG in over a year. The member comments are cut off on the right side. I remember this was a problem a while back (lots of discussion about it on the forums), but don't remember how people got it fixed. My system looked fine and I was glad I was not having the problems so many others were! Spoke too soon evidently. Thinking it might just be momentary fluke, I looked at the company Burpee - same situation - the column is cut off the right. I do not see this problem in the discussion forums. Is there something I need to be doing that others know about? I had hoped this year to actually use the various parts of DG and not just the forums.
Old space problem has showed up again
I just checked. Same thing here.
Probably they all do. I just checked Brushwood, Oakes Daylilies and Easy to Grow Bulbs and all have the right side cut off and all have the author column running into the remarks area.
Looking down the list a bit, I see that in December Gardadore seemed to have this same problem, but there were not any responses there. Is anyone listening?
Good question.
Garden Watchdog has been cut off and spilled over for many months now.
We thought this had been fixed previously. The problem I see is not that text is cut off, but that member's information spills over from the left column to the right. If you're seeing any other problem(s) let me know, please.
I am not sure what you mean about the "member's info spills over". What I see is as if the text box is too narrow - the words on the right are cut off.
Hmmmm. Okay, I know we've probably been down this path before but. What browser are you using?
Because when I look at both of those company's reviews, I see the overlap from the username column into the text of the review (for members whose location is extra-long). But my text is not cut off. I use Firefox, and I just double-checked it with Internet Explorer, too.
I also logged out and logged in as each of you and viewed those specific pages.
In none of those situations did the text cut off on the right. Sooooo, don't hit me, but it is most likely something in your browser settings. We can - and will - fix the spillover from one column to the other, but we can't do much about highly customized user settings on your browsers - that is a very personal choice based on your computer and what is comfortable to your eyes. What I can tell you is that if you have your browser settings fairly close to the way they originally come from the developer, you will not have cut off text on those pages.
I use Chrome most of the time and it is fine for all the sites in the world that I visit except DG. It was fine during the problems everyone was having a while back - mine looked fine. Of course, I realize I was looking mostly at the forums and not using other parts of DG very much. I have no "highly customized user settings". If I did, wouldn't it be a problem on the forums as well? I don't have any answers for you. If you can't fix it, so be it.
Ahhhh - okay, I didn't try Chrome, but once I did I was able to replicate the problem. That should be fixable.
Terry - I had to laugh when you said you were "able to replicate the problem". That reminded me of a nightmare years ago when I had a Subaru car that was a total lemon and kept completely dying on us. Every single time I took it to the dealer, he said they could not "replicate the problem"! It was a serious situation for a year. The final resolution was that they did replicate it (told me it was a real safety issue and that I should not be driving it - WHAT?). I then bought a Toyota and never looked back - Toyota cars ever since then. So I am glad you could "replicate the problem" - serious flashback!! Thanks for trying to fix this.
Yeah, it's a problem for our techs when someone describes a problem, but we can't recreate it. I've had also cars that would stop making that funny noise (whatever it was) as soon as I pulled in the dealership's service bay. Frustrating...and the same principle.
Yep, Chrome.
So - is this problem with Chrome on the "to do" list or do we just have to live with it? Thanks for the information.
We've filed the request to get it fixed. As soon as I know which upcoming release it will be included on, I will post back here with an ETA.
Thanks, Terry. :)
Yes, thank you. I understand how requests to IT guys and gals have to get in line.
It's happening on my systems too. Still worse on the old computer with the smaller monitor (only 19") but worse than it was. I see you are losing about 20 subscribers per week. I bet all these issues have something to do with it.
I have been hoping this could be fixed without too much trauma as it did not used to happen for many years on DG. Progress is not always good. But this time of year is not a good time not to be able to research vendors and products. Spring will come (although you would not know it looking out my window tonight, seeing the snow and hearing the sleet and freezing rain falling - North Carolina).
This is precisely the time to plan orders.
Helps with lifting me out of the blahs !
