Hello all. Just checking in. I think some of you have heard that my mother has been in the hospital. She had carotid artery surgery scheduled for last Wed, but on the Mon beforehand, she fell and broke her ankle. It was a lot of juggling and decision making to determine the way ahead. In the end, we went with the scheduled carotid surgery last Wed, and the ankle surgery was done yesterday. We are now waiting to hear how long she will be in the hospital before being moved to a rehab facility. Luckily, the hospital and rehab center and my brother and two sisters are all close by, so it makes it much easier to make sure all is being taken care of.
Terri!!!! ♥ Been keeping your Mom in my prayers since I heard a few days ago what happened. How is your Mom feeling?? Did the surgeries go ok? My goodness, y'all must be whoooped!!
Thank you for checking in Honey; don't worry about us, we'll be patiently waiting for whenever you're ready to return.
((((((BIG HUGS!!)))))))
Wow, Terri, that's a lot of stuff--hugs to all of you. I'm so glad Mom is doing OK so far, and that you have siblings close by
What Sally said. LOL
Terri, Hope all goes well from here on. Sounds like you have some back up to help and now that the surgeries are over hopefully the rehab and recovery goes well.
Goodness, that's a lot to deal with. HUGS!
I took a class in furniture painting the other night. Had a great time lots of fun. Here is my before and after pics. I painted a very old chest that was at one time in Josh's bedroom probably since he was about 2yrs old. It's was a cheap thing and I don't even know where it came from possibly something Ric picked up from along side the road. It has been sitting next to the door in the living room. I put it there to use till I got something nicer and there it stayed for probably 10 yrs, right next to a lovely golden oak desk. LOL
neat-o Holly, lends itself to a unique paint treatment!
I really like it. It wouldn't be something everyone would like but I was very pleased with it. I still need to find new knobs for it.
Planty of knobs online can be cheap like $2 or expensive as you want, although since its only 4 knobs, maybe shipping would even it out with buying at a local store.
Planty of knobs online can be cheap...
Planty? Is someone ready for Spring?? < =D
That chest of drawers really turned out cool Holly!! That sounds like a fun class, too. Do you plan to do more?
Yes, but I don't know when I will get a chance. I have a couple of other pieces that I want to paint, they will be different though.
HD has a HUGE amount o knobs. In the hardware dept. Aisle #19 at ours--
as well as in the Kitchen dept.
Every kind you would want. G.
Thinking of you, dear and your mom's recovery. Thank you for the update.
Holly, that piece of furniture looks great!!!
AspenHill: I know well how challenging it is to look out for parents who have fallen. On the one hand you are worried and anxious about the injuries, and on the other hand you don't have time to worry or grieve because there is so so so much to do. The logistics can be overwhelming. Any chance you'll get some snow days from work to catch up?
Terri, thanks for updating us! Everyone is spot on -- that's a lot to deal with, both in terms of logistics and worry. Hope she'll soon be cleared to start rehab, and that she'll make great progress there so she can be back home asap!
Holly, that chest did get transformed! Still looks old, but now it looks old in a really nifty way. :-) You might like some of the painted ceramic knobs from World Market... Happy is the one who told me about them. http://www.worldmarket.com/search.do?query=ceramic+knobs
And as for what's making me roll my eyes tonight... I slipped going down the driveway, and in trying hard not to catch myself with either bad arm I sprained my ankle. All I could think as I sat on my butt in the snow was, "Seriously???" Iced immediately & wrapped it... not bad, so maybe just a little more than a twist, and I'm hoping it'll be better in the morning.
Oh Jill…nuts!!!!!! hope it's much better in the morning
Oh Critter -- I am so sad to hear about your ankle. You have had more than your share of health calamities. I'm sure your DH is taking good care of you -- soak it in! And rest that ankle!
Oh Heavens!! I sure hope you are able to stay off it as much as possible today!! Keep it wrapped, even if it feels better; and when it's not wrapped, an Epsom Salts soak is just the key! =)
Poor Dear, we need to take better care of you!
Teri, praying your Mom heals well, I'm amazed at the resilience of some of our oldsters, (as though we're not getting there ourselves). Last year my dad broke his hip, he's 85 and has bad lungs. 30 years ago that would have been the beginning of the end, he was lucky that the break was easy to repair with a hip replacement. He was on his feet in 2 days and other than a bit of a limp doing fine. Wishing you mom a speedy recovery.
Oh, NUTS, Jill. Please let sunshine girl pamper you.
Jill, I was only kidding when I said we needed someone in an ankle brace at every seed swap!
I hope you recover soon!
ACK lol @ssg!!
LOL! Jim said it's the snowball effect... tore up my shoulder trying to spare my swollen left arm, then sprained my ankle trying to spare both arms! I said I am NOT going to try to hop around on the good foot!
It's not a bad sprain, just a little swelling around the ankle and some pain with my achilles. I'll take care of it... have had it up most of the morning. And yah, I think I have an ankle brace somewhere! If not I'll pick up an ace on my way to the dentist (broke a tooth last week, and since I didn't mess up my driving foot I think I can keep the appt.).
Sunshine Girl is entertaining me very nicely!
Jill, look at the bright side, now you have a reason to learn to drive with your off foot. I did that when I drove truck as most of the old ones didn't have cruise control. The skill came in very handy when I broke my right foot.LOL If you have a clutch you have to bite the bullet in traffic though.
This thread is getting long let's continue here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1348284/
