Hiya. Healthwise, and staying warm. I'm, fair. Just discovered on Tuesday I might have a stress fracture right hip and going in for a 2 step bone density test. I told the doctor I'm allergic to surgery and one a year is too many. I was on Fossamax for a year so anything goes at this point. Other than that, I'm ok & looking forward to March when Bobbin promised to take us to Florida. Hoping everybody is ok. (((((Hugs))))) from all of us to all of you. Buttoneer, Bobbin & Fritzie.

,Found out it isn't a stress fracture so are now looking at my sciatic nerve. B,

Thanks Ric!

Hiya Buttoneer, hoping for good news for you there!

Wow Terri haha glad dinner turned out good.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Buttoneer, sure am looking forward to seeing you, seems like it has been so very long. I have a Truly Tiny Banana for you. I sent it to the Nov meeting with Ric but he said you weren't there.
Well, My garden art glass plate flower didn't sell at the silent auction. The woman running it thought it may not have been displayed well enough for people to realize what it was. That's ok I know someone that would love it for a Christmas present. The Penn State basket was a raffle item so I have no idea what it would have sold for but there were a lot of tickets in the bag for that basket. Because of the bad weather and the change of date there were many people missing from the luncheon and sales of the greens arrangements wasn't high either. Not that they didn't make good $$ but the numbers were quite a bit lower than expected.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm sorry it didn't sell, Holly; I'm surprised. It looked lovely. I'm sure the weather did interfere with attendance.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

where were we talking Azomite? The southern states in glen burnie has it i their inventory at 34.95 for the 44 pound bag like happy saw. But they couldn't locate a bag in the warehouse, so call first or wait till spring.

Aaaaw Holly, I'm sorry it didn't sell, it's DO PRETTY!!! Clearly there were too many in attendance who missed out on the whole PS experience; such a shame for them!

Here's what I've been up to in my neck o' the woods... day before yesterday when I was at work, near the end of the day, had someone come in for an order of 6 custom wreaths. Got 2 of 'em done... Pics below.

WOWSA--Speedie!! Those are gorgeous!
Didn't know you do this!

Did you mix in "artificial" bits for color? If not--what are the red branches?
The variegated Holy pieces?

LOVE your bows!!!! Gita

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Speedie, They sure do look nice. Just beautiful.
I am digging out the Christmas decorations as we speak. Trying to decide if I am going to put any outside decorations up. Afraid I let it go too long and possibly the ground will be too hard to put up the deer and train. I could hang a few lights and do a few greens but with the snow coming tomorrow not sure if I will get to doing that.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

If I did not have online shopping…I would be digging a hole and hiding from all my family and friends because I would have no gifts for them. I just would not have the time to find what I am getting online. I just saved myself from an hour of driving and an hour on waiting line, for the special chocolate my aunt likes.I will go to the chocolate shop in January when nobody else is there, for her birthday box.

Thank you, and yes, the 'red bits' are what the customer provided; they are artificial red something-or-other. The variegated holly came from shrubs we have in stock. BossMan told me to do it!! =)

I was pretty pleased with how the bows came out, but honestly, I think they could be better... I'm capable of better, but DARN IT, my eyes were watering so badly from all the greenery!! Should have taken the Clariton BEFORE I started working. < =/

Did 8 cemetery cones today for a customer. EGADS, collecting all the cuttings, then trimming them down to workable size is a LOT of work!! Took the Clariton BEFORE I started doing anything though, so the eyes were MUCH happier all day! =) (and a couple wreaths and 1 swag in between, for "walk-ins"). :)

We're almost sold-out of stuff!!! < =0

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I got a good bit of my stuff on line, too. Picked JR up from school today they got out early. He helped me put up outside lights, the deer, train and candy canes. We started on the tree it's about 1/2 done. I made a 3D prism star last night in class. I am definitely going to make more of these at a later date. Marrissa, is to run in a 5K tomorrow. It is the Jingle Bell Run a fund raiser for Arthritis. She joined a school sponsored running group. Girls on the Run and they are to participate in this tomorrow. I guess we will see when the snow starts and if they are going. If so I will be outside freezing my little tush off tomorrow morning. Things we do for our Grands. LOL

WOWEEE WOW Holly, you MADE that!?!?!!?!?!?

BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Speedie, It was great fun. I'll tell you that one thing I really can't do is arrangements, I just don't seem to have the knack to put together anything that really looks good. I can stuff a few greens in a basket but to do a really nice arrangement, nope.

Bec--
that's wonderful! I don't even remember WHEN I gave it to you???
I presume the red one is mine--as I caan still see the tag--with a faded "RED" on it.

Almost all of mine bloomed this year, except the smallest of them.
JB also sent me a huge package--2 years ago--with 6 potted CC's in it.
These each were a different color. I just posted close-ups of some of them on
---maybe---the "Indoor Gardening" thread.

Who--or what--chewed all the leaves on the apricot one????

Here is an appropriate pic for you to wish you and Greg a Merry Christmas.

Gita - I've had that little one for years!! Never did anything until now! I 'think' them living outside made this happen, a few night with really cold weather before I brought them in...& they blessed me with flowers! I smile & think of y'all when I see it! The chewed up leaves were like that when I got it...Chantell brought it for me from Coleup! I finally got a shelf up in the garage, so I've brought the few plants I have inside - I brought nearly all my Sansevierias with from VA & a few of the small plants I had in the kitchen window! Oh, how I miss that window & the shelves!! No window sills in the house, and can't have any plants inside due to cats & dog wanting to eat them!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Bec, could you use something like this? http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/orchids/msg1110160913983.html

Or would the cats climb and sleep on them?

Looks like you all have been busy, busy since I've been away. Going to see donniebrook from the NE forum tomorrow in Ft. Myers. Very excited! Whenever I get to see a DG friend in person is a great day!! I won't get home til after Christmas. Jeff will fly to Atlanta and I'll pick him up on the 23rd. We'll have Christmas with his brother's family.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh how nice it will be to meet in person. Sounds like you have a very full schedule between now and Christmas. Our tree is almost completely decorated and the outside decorations are completely finished. Went this morning to watch Marissa run this morning. It sure was cold but lots of fun. They had a big heated tent with face painting and hair painting for the kids. She is in a program called Girls on the Run and there were girls from a lot of the local schools there as well as lots of others all dressed up in their Christmas funny clothes. Good time had by all.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Bec--
ALL my CC's spend the summer outside every year.
The smaller ones sit on some plant stands by my front door--facing N.
The latger ones sit on a multi-tiered plant stand under my patio roof
and get a smidge of the afternoon sun.

I leave them all out even when the weather gets colder--like in the low 50's.
By the time I bring them in--they all have bloom buds on the leaf tips.

By now--all mine are done blooming. I need to stop watering them so much--
as, I believe, they need a "rest" period after blooming. Still watering, though...

Now is also time to take end cuttings (at least 2 segments) to root.
That is how I have started all mine...The will root--and, maybe, bloom
about a year or two. Depending on how much they have grown.

Here are all my smaller CC's by my front door. Pic. #1&2
Pic. #3 is of all the CC's JB sent me in that big box. I have re-potted them here...

Cross my heart and hope to.............whatever.........I will NOT root any more CC's...
...So she says.........This house looks like a jungle already.

Becky, How sweet of you to post those unexpected blooms. That's the magic afoot around here. I knew that poor little plant was going to a better place! I smile when I think of you, too. How is all the visiting at your new home going? Any special Norse traditions to share? Tell that Chantell to stop on over here and let us know how she is doing!

It's begining to look a lot like Christmas with bows and wreaths and stained glass stars! Nice work all Speedie, Claritan is always better before. Now we know who really could get us to do a wreath making workshop!

Ric, I like those shelves and have seen some DYI version of same.

Jan have fun in Fla and a very blessed Christmas to you and Jeff! I thought you were awefully 'quiet'! Looking forward to catching up in the New Year.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Ric - I very much could!!! I could use the shelves in winter & plants outside on the patio in summer! Yay!
It'll be a very special Christmas this year, new home, celebrating LIFE & overcoming the hardest hurdle I've ever had to face - I would have never made it through without all the good thoughts, prayers, wishes & good karma sent my way! Nearly everyone in my life has been a part of my journey & while it's been a hard & tough one, it's been a blessing too! I've met new people, reconnected with old friends & found strength, humility & spirituality in a way I never thought possible - my hubby has been my rock & we survived cancer, selling & buying a house, moving & brutal surgeries & treatments! We celebrated 20 years in Aug & a little over a year ago we didn't think we would - much love & hugs to all, I miss you & think about you often! Bec_No_AL!!

"Bec_No_Al"... Bec Noel... Bec, "Comfort", "Wanderer" (Hebrew)... Bec, the Wanderer who gives Comfort wherever she goes. Coincidence?

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Becky, I am so happy that is all is well with you. Heavy, heavy, sigh of relief and a warmness in my heart that all of our prayers were answered. Speedie, cool info on the name too.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Names.....WHAT is in a name???

I once had this done at a festival. It is framed and hangs in my BR.

GITA

--Root: Yiddish----"good"
--Personality: A persom who loves to smile and be happy
--Character: Never boasting, Always helping.
--Nature: Fun is the name of her game
--Mind: One whose keynote is self-improvement
--Spirit: One dedicated to good causes
--Manner: Has fame, Illumination and Inspiration.
--Temperament: Has a certain way about her.
--Outlook: She can be outspoken at times.

Well--I don't think it is 100%---but I think the last one fits me to a "T".....

Just for fun.....Gita

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

So glad things are going well Bec. We can really celebrate with you the joys and answers to prayers.

Today was a great day!!! Spent several hours with donniebrook for brunch which could easily have run over into dinner. On the way home we stopped at a manatee park and were able to see some. It is an area near a power plant that has an area of warmer water, so the manatees come in when other waters are too cold. It is a non-captive area so they can come and go as they please. Very interesting!!!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Bec: Enjoy that southern Christmas and lift a glass of eggnog to your good health!

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Jan, glad you had a great day with donniebrook and are enjoying your vacation. I've never had the pleasure of seeing a manatee, but I've heard they are wonderful creatures and seem at ease and affectionate towards humans.

Susan, where are you looking to find the meaning of names? I checked out a few on line sites and only find a one word meaning for Teresa - Harvester. FYI, for kicks I checked out a couple more - Sally is a diminutive of Sarah and means Princess; Jill means Youthful; Judy means Praised; Holly means Plant with Red Berries, so literal LOL; Jan means Gift from God; Gita means Song; Susan means Graceful Lily; Devon means Poet...

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

I am seeing everything in high def!!!

A few months ago I realized that my eye sight was a problem - especially in bright light and at night, making it very difficult to drive on my long commute. The eye dr diagnosed that I had cataracts concentrated behind my pupils, which definitely explained the problem. I had surgery on the right eye two weeks ago, and surgery on the left eye on Friday. Everything is so sharp and clear now - what a huge difference! I didn't know how bad it was until I now know how good it can be LOL. So amazing what they can do these days to fix things.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

So glad to hear you got those cataracts taken care of! I've heard it makes such a difference. I know it will be me someday...

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm glad to hear that, aspenhill -- I have mild cataracts and know that surgery is somewhere in my future. I'm sure squeamish about eyes, so I'm not looking forward to it.

Poet? I'd never heard that.

But Harvester? Could be very appropriate -- do you have a vegetable garden?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Apsenhill, I had my cateracts done several years ago. Huge difference especially at night.
I am enjoying the name talk all so interesting.
Beck, Many, many, many more Christmas blessings in your future. (((hugs)))

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Woohoo on being able to see clearly again. Methinks I need to see the eye doc. I don't like driving at night.

Fun reading about the meaning of names. To me all your names mean SPECIAL!!!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Terri--

Th meaning of GITA as "song" makes sense if you know that in India--
Gita is a godless-like perssonna--sort of a wisdom-giver.

They have this very holy book called "Bhagavad Gita"

I get some funny looks at my HD as an Indian person sees my name
and realizes I am NOT from India.

Here's one of the more pictorial links....there's a lot more. Just Google it.

http://www.bhagavad-gita.us/

Edited to add that, Sanskrit is the ancient Mother Tongue of all Indo-European languages.

This kind of stuff is fun to look into....

What I've read about 'Robin' is that in England it is a derivative of 'Robert' and so has the same meaning as Robert--'bright and shining' (hiding my pearly whites lest the sun striking off of them blind you--haha). However, since Robin in this country is a woman's name rather than a derivative of Robert, I'm not sure what it means--just our friend the red-breasted bird? ;-)

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

The site that I looked at www.meaning-of-names.com - Robin means Famous Brilliance; Paul means Little - LOL, how off is that?; Ric means Powerful, strong ruler; Chantell means Singer; David means Beloved or Friend; Pat means Of Noble Descent

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Famous Brilliance--that's similar, since I recall one definition as 'bright and shining with fame'--something that's hard for me to type without laughing! :-D
