2014 Sphaerocarpium seedlings.

Kansasville, WI(Zone 5a)

I don't know what this is, so I took a pic and here is it.

The cross is H Bryony x Arborea "s" The orange tag is on the stem. Could it be a root with a plant
growing from it?

Thank you Alan for all the help you have given me. :)

Arborea 'S' x Hurstwood Hannah. I'll keep this one for awhile. Will the color Intensify with heat ?

It's a nice plant and a nice flush.

Hi Linda
Nice looking blooms
Not sure if colour intensity will alter, that could just be the colour they are!
Is there any fragrance?
Alan

Kansasville, WI(Zone 5a)

Sorry to say that so far no fragrance. The room the plants are in is 47 degrees F today. 8 C.

Kansasville, WI(Zone 5a)

This is a new one that opened up today. It is Arborea 'S' x Rosa Lila x Wildfire. Nice color to it.

Oh they are so beautiful. I'm so happy for you. How tall are the plants that are blooming. Oh I just love them. I'm so jealous here. I have buds on my old reliable though. Cypress Gardens gad buds so I'll gave something blooming in a couple of months I think. I don't know how long it takes from tiny buds to bloom time,.

Good growing there Linda. Great brug mom. Do these have to make a Y also. I think they would but I'm not sure.

Mesilla Park, NM

My seedling are getting tall too, I used chop sticks to stake them, the sticks are 10 inches tall so you can see the growth. The tallest ones are Arborea "S" x Sunshine a couple are taller than the chopstick.. I mist them everyday twice a day.. Lol.

Yes they do need to make a 'Y' before blooming. I have a Sanguinea x Amethyst that sprawls all over. It might need more sunlight than I can provide.

The Arborea is 45" tall. The others are smaller. 24" to 32" tall. They are a nice size for moving around.

Here is Arborea 'S' x Rosa Lila x Wildfire another day older.

Edit to say that for some reason this picture really turned out pink. early morning sun?

All the seedlings are getting bigger.

This is the same cross of Arborea 'S' x H. Hannah but a different plant. I peeled part of the buds open. Sure hope that is something that doesn't have to be done all the time.

Great to see you ladies have great seedlings and you have Sphaero blooms Linda (you will have Sphero blooms soon Antoinette :-) )
That last bloom pictured looks a very nice shade of Orange on my screen Linda, is it?
I'm potting my Arborea 'S' X Hurstwood Sunshine seedlings into 5" pots today! they grow quickly don't they :-)
Here's a photograph.

They are looking good.

The Arborea 'S' x Rosa Lila x Wildfire is more of a peachy pink. Not orange, not pink. I know
it takes a few days for the full color to come in.

I have some seeds I started 1/12 and they still have not sprouted. :(

Very enjoyable to see blooms in winter.

Mesilla Park, NM

Thank you Alan. It will be great to see our seedlings growing and the blooming at hopefully the same times for the three of us.

I am hoping that the Arborea "S" x H. Sunshine has some fragrance too. I have two that are really growing fast. I'm going to fertilize them all tonight. I may have to transplant them to larger pots too, the roots on these are growing out the bottoms of the pots.

Do either of you grow Daturas? The ones I got from parks are huge too I barely have room on my grow rack now, 30 daturas and 13 brugmansia seedlings.

I did not think that the seeds for my daturas were good since they were so old so I sowed all of them and they all germinated. Lol

If you guys grow daturas , how many per pot can I put. Like a five gallon pot size? I was thinking of using them to under plant in the with the brug plants . Any suggestions ? Thank you.

A.

Linda, my last two albino seedlings died off this week, I took them outa of the dome and they just weren't going to make it. I have a couple of seeds left and I'll try those soon. I've got to figure out how to make some room on my shelving.

Burnley, United Kingdom

Hi Antoinette
No I don't grow Daturas, a few years ago I purchased loads of different Dat. seeds then struggled with space and decided to dedicate the space (time, cost etc) just to Brugs. Space in the growing room gets desperate for me, it's not safe to plant out in my location until early May and hopefully everything is large and fighting for room!
I hope the Arborea 'S' X Hurstwood Sunshine has fragrance, that's the reason I made that cross.
It will be good to compare results we achieve from the same seeds, different growing techniques and so diverse locations.
Happy Growing
Alan

I have grown the big white Datura here. This last summer the weather was so bad, I didn't have a ripe seed pod when the frost hit. I do have some seed that I had saved from a couple years ago that I'll have to plant. They reseed themselves here. Tho I never found them to be invasive.

Time for another plant stand Antoinette. My son made me 2 out of pvc and I bought the shelves from a big box store.

I have 5 Arborea 'S' x Hurstwood Sunshine that I have growing.

This is where I got the instructions for my son to make my plant stands..

http://www.tsflowers.com/plantstand.html#BLANK

It's really nice and sturdy. One stand has wheels on it and I can put it outside and if the weather is going to be too cold I can push it into the garage for the night.

Mesilla Park, NM

Oooh, looking good there. I love those instructions. Ive got this tall metal rack with wheels too.

Here are some pictures of a few minutes ago. Arborea "S". x. H. Sunshine , I keep the four inside shoe boxes on the racks.

One passed the chopstick and the other reaches it.

I planted some cat grass for my cat Hobo Joe on Friday night, look at it today, i just cant believe how fast this grows . He is going to be really happy. Last year, he ate all my sweet pea seedlings.. And all the corn seedlings. Now he will have his own stuff. More photos of the seedlings on the rack with more plants.

Heres Joe, watching over everything. I will give him his grass in a few more days.

A, everything looks so nice and healthy !! I need to stake some of mine.

Burnley, United Kingdom

They all look nice and healthy Antoinette, your doing good :-)

Mesilla Park, NM

Thank you Both... One of the Daturas has a bud on it, i dont know if its a double/triple white or doubletriple yellow, i didnt bother to label any of them since i didnt expect results. The triple purple has the dark stem so i can tell which those are..

Are there any identifying traits on the stems of brug plants as to indicate a color? I know that some of the leaf shapes and textures can give you some idea of a species but i dont know if the same goes for the stems.

I may have a couple of sprawlers too.

Burnley, United Kingdom

As far as I know, there is nothing different on the stems to indicate colour etc.On some of my very dark Cv the buds are dark prior to them opening,so that's an early indicator.

Mesilla Park, NM

Thank you Alan.

I think i might have a Y forming on this

Arborea "S". X. H. Sunshine,

Is it possible yet.. I took these photos just now and ill take more in a few days. Does this look like it might be creating a Y. .?

What do you guys think? It is about 14 inches tall, already hitting the flourescent lights.

Im excited right about now. Let me know what your thoughts are and if im imagining this.

I can't tell by looking at the pictures. But I sure hope it is !!!

Gourd look at youuuu. OMG they look so healthy!

I do better with seeds an rooted plants than with cuttings. I dont have the knack anymore...

The plant has about 8 leaves really close together that is why it looks like a Y. So no Y yet here.

Spring , Spring , oh where art thou? Lol

Kansasville, WI(Zone 5a)

This was a suprise. Hurstwood Francisco x Hurstwood Hannah planted 11/27/13 and has
a bud on it. This is a 12 week old plant.

So Antoinette you might have a bud on yours. Alan said that he only keeps the plants that bloom early. That makes it easier to cull the plants. I was starting to worry if I was going to be able to cull any.

Burnley, United Kingdom

Hi Antoinette, can't really tell from the pics if there is a Y, you'll know soon if it is :-)
Hi Linda, wow that's really early even for one of mine! You'll see blooms of this cross before I do ;-)

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh my god Linda.. Thats great. So they dont have to make a Y to bloom?

Ill take a closer look at mine .. I have to find a another place for this plant it doesnt fit on the shelf anymore.

Kansasville, WI(Zone 5a)

There is a "Y" there with the bud in the middle.

Burnley, United Kingdom

Go girls :-)

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh thats good to know. This one if full of leaves in the center and very difficult right now to tell if it is starting to Y. Im two weeks behind you so maybe ill get a bud too in a couple of weeks. This is so exciting and so quick.

Thanks Alan.. Any current pics of yours? You must also be excited to see your seeds coming to life.. I am too...i must look at the seedling ten times a day.

Linda can you post a picture of the whole plant that has a bud. Id love to see what it looks like.

Antoixnette

Kansasville, WI(Zone 5a)

Here it is. I have 2 more of the same cross (planted at the same time) growing and they are a couple inches bigger, but no buds yet. It's in a 6" pot. Couldn't hold the measuring tape and take a pic at the same time.

Thumbnail by crazy4brugs
Mesilla Park, NM

That looks so healthy and looks really tall even though the tape shows the height.. What a neat surprise for you. Thank you for posting the photo.

Kansasville, WI(Zone 5a)

Hopefully the bud hangs on. It will be weeks before it opens. Anything can happen to it.

Here is the next batch. Still have some seeds just sprouting that were planted 1/12.
