...and on your digital camera!

oh shoot, THAT i forgot! lol

We should have an automatic D-mail to remind people about this the first time they come online after the change - I always get caught by this! Don't know how to remind myself to do the cameras though! LOL!

We changed 3 weeks ago here!

So an automatic reminder would need to be adjusted for different regions

I just leave my camera on UTC (= GMT) all year, I reckon it is more important to record real time, rather than fake political time.

we changed three weeks ago too.
i decided to just leave my camera like it is.
as far as an automatic reminder from dg...i think they have enough on their plates as it is.

Resin, tracks, the code for the timezones is already embedded in the DG code or you wouldn't be able to set your time in the first place - I'm not sure how much work would be involved in taking it a step further, that would be up to the technicians.

UTC doesn't work for me as I am tracking the times of day that flowers open and close and other time sensitive stuff like that when I take my photos. I kind of need to correlate the timestamp on the photos with concepts like dawn, early morning, midday etc etc.

It's a thought anyway,

Ciao, KK.

True, as you're 9 hours away from it!

In that case, you definitely don't want to set daylight saving time on your camera, stick to UTC+9 all year, that way noon (when the sun is highest in the sky) is always at 12 for you (instead of 1 pm during daylight saving). Or if you want to be really accurate, use UTC + 9h 14m, for Adelaide's exact longitude.

Thanks for the info Resin. I wish I'd known that exact offset when I started this project back in 2005 - I might have done things differently, but I've now got over 26000 digital photos timestamped with the local times (winter and summer) so I think I'll keep going with what I have and put the offset into the spreadsheet with the final figures.

Anyhow, not ALL of my photos are of plants, some are personal events and other things which are more appropriately timestamped with the local "social" time.

Happy Gardening, KK.

Solar time is fairly easy to work out - the Earth is 360° longitude divided into a 24 hour day, so one hour = 15° of longitude (i.e., the sun moves 15° west each hour). So take your longidute in degrees, and divide by 15. Adelaide is 138.5° east, which gives 9 hours 14 minutes (or 9 hours 15 minutes, if you're at 138.75°E in the easternmost suburbs).
