photos from Android phone always sideways

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

No matter how I hold the phone, the photo posts with its top edge on the right side, you'd have to lay on your left to see the photo. I try rotating the photo in my phone and re sending, same thing. I apologize if this has already been discussed. I could swear I have posted photos from phone OK at some point. Does anyone know if there's a fix?

Same thing with iPad, iPhone.

I think there is an app you can download to rotate them so "the rest of the world" can see it normally.

That is odd...I'm not a 'droid user so I can't help you but is there some setting in your phone you can adjust? If you upload them into a photo editor, can you rotate them and have them stay rotated?

hm, checking into my settings is a good idea.
I can rotate them once they are loaded into a computer, of course, but I want to be able to open DG in my phone browser and then attach a photo right from the phone.

I get pictures from people with iPad and a lot of their pictures are sideways and sometimes upside down but they don't think the problem is on their end. I notice a lot of pictures on DG that have this issue and I suspect a lot are from phones or pads. GRRR!

my sister sends me pics all the time from her iphone. they're always sideways......

A problem that seems to be growing by leaps and bounds. It is hard to be helpful for folks who post pictures in the Plant ID forum when they do this.

sometimes i drag them into my iphoto and rotate them just to get a better shot of the plant. on the up side, more people are taking pictures of plants for id that otherwise wouldn't even be shown.

Testing
aha
on reading a forum about android, someone said that cropped pictures post correctly. it worked here, same photo first one cropped second one as taken.
the cropping must change something on the file data, and lets DG read it to orient it right.

Do you crop on the phone then? I rarely use my Samsung Note for taking pictures unless I am without my camera (usually at a store) so haven't used any photo editing features on the phone.

yes- when I open the Gallery and choose a photo, I choose Menu, then More ; opening that has Crop as one choice. Easy.
Oh, when you crop it makes a new picture. You will still have the original, in case you're worried about messing it up when you crop.
