I put some of my seeds in pots and some were directly sowed into the ground in the place I wanted them to grow permanently. I think the biggest problem, might have been lack of sunlight. I know they say to grow them in full sun, but being down here in central Florida, full sun does not always mean full sun. Full Florida summer sun can be brutal on plants, even those that are supposed to be in full sun. The area I planted them is along an ugly chain link fence and that area was getting over run by my neighbor's cherry laurel trees. They were taking over and becoming invasive. I would do everything I could to keep them on his side of the fence, and FINALLY convinced him to cut them back. Found out what he wanted to do with them, and I started hacking away with a chainsaw. Once I started, it finally lit a fire in him and he has spent most of the last week really cleaning out that area. It has really opened the area up and I have a lot more sun coming through. I think that might be what triggered the MGs!

I have 2 kind of MG seeds, something called "Emma's Gift" and another simply called Japanese MG.

Emmas Gift seeds will delight you, I know from experience, Shauna. Sounds like we will see some blooms from you soon.

Jackie, your pandy is awsome and I love your horses.

Morning everyone! Guess I lost you all for a bit!

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Those of you with multiple species growing together...do your pollinators ever pollinate and you end up with offspring that are a combination of the parents?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Jackie I love seeing the horses my granddaughters would love them!
Debra I grew seeds of yours marked basement mix. I'll post some pics later from some of the flowers.
Shauna we all get lots of crosses. They make some of the nicest flowers.

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

I have an ugly chain link fence I am trying to cover with various vines, MG's being one of them and I would love to get crosses (that is if I can get more growing successfully). LOL

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks Ronnie, since I found so many packets of them from last winter I was wondering..

Shauna, I have chain link fence everywhere... and grow lots of different kinds of vines with my glories decorating them..

Debra, those are beautiful!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Gorgeous blooms Debra. Love the 1st and last blooms with the beautiful Carnival of Venice front and center. I hope to grow more of those this next yr.
Shauna, the nils cross with each other and sometimes the nils and purps cross.
My Lite Blue Tie dye (nil) has to be a cross. Perhaps Tai aki pollen from a bee that visited my regular Blue Tie Dye.

Those are all such beautiful blooms!

Thanks Shauna.
Ronnie and Debra, we have a time with the horses. I sneak down to the barn to get hay for the goats next door. If Bill and Goldie catch me, they try to cut me off saying where you going with our hay.
Sometimes Bill sneaks up on me, puts his face in the center of my back and trys to push me all around the pasture. Hes a bully, thats all there is to it. If I'm in the pasture and I see him
coming. I just drop everything and go to running, lol

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

LOL I can see that happening. I havn't been on a horse since I was 17. I always liked to stop on certain roads off the hiway to see the horses at the fence , take pics of them and give them apples. There are three between Rogers Arkansas and Winfield, Ks.

You are going to have to sneak that hay to the goats in a pillow case ;D

I think you're right Debra. :-)

I fell off a horse years ago and broke my tailbone. Have not been on one since. I love horses. I think they are so beautiful.

Happy Belated Birthday Ronnie!

Stopped at my neighbor's house the other day and low and behold, she had (what I think) was a moonflower, Ipomoea alba growing in one of her rose of sharon hibiscus pots. The bloom caught my eye because it was huge compared to the other MG blooms I have seen and had such a sweet scent. I asked her where she got it from and she said it must have grown through the fence and gave it to me.

I pulled up the plant, trying to save as many roots as possible and transplanted it. I am hoping that once it gets over the transplant shock, it continues to grow.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Shauna, those are easy from seed. She probably could have kept her vine and just shared
sds with you. :-)

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thank you Shauna!

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

I think that once she noticed the vine, if I hadn't been there...she would have ripped it out and threw it away.

So, glad I was there to take it from her.

I know that when I transplanted it, I should have cut the developing buds off so it would use energy to grow and not bloom, but I didn't and came home to an open bloom last night.
