I need volunteers to come forward and help me beta test the new trade lists that I'm almost finished with.
This will be replacing the "have-list", "want-list" and "will have list". It's a lot more advanced, more difficult to use, and probably currently full of bugs.
Anyone who is interested in helping me test this thing, please send me an E-mail.
Dave
New feature - TL - need beta test volunteers
Count me in!
go_vols - you failed the first test. :-) You have to send me an E-mail if you wanna participate.
Seriously - this way I can file you into a special folder for beta testers. It will make it much easier for me to create an addressbook list of beta testers for this feature.
Well, the words "more advanced" and "difficult to use" ruled me out! LOL! Lisa
Okay, I sent you an e-mail.....apparently I should have been asleep instead of trying to do anything even slightly taxing on my mental faculties!
Lisa - I'd still like you to join the beta test. We need to make this thing nice and friendly to use - it's going to eventually become to standard seed/plant list for all members. It'll replace the old one.
So, it needs to be as friendly as possible. You are a prime candidate to help us make it easy to use!
send me an e-mail if you're willing to participate!
Dave,
So far, no bugs. Will you link the trade list and the journal for migrating items like they currently are, bi-directional if possible? Will we still be have a list to enter "who, what, address, etc" list?
Sharon
I just tried to add a status and it didn't show up in the status list.
The new status didn't show up till I actually assigned an item with the new status.
When you are in the edit mode, the date would be handy, just like in the journal. I see that the date shows up in the view mode.
Thanks for the feedback, Sharon. I'll address all this.
Regarding your 10:31 AM question: The answer isyes. We'll have heavy linking of the trade lists and journals, migrating will be as easy as the current cloning feature.
As for who/what/where etc, that will also be heavily linked. I'll be reworking this after this beta test is over.
You are so good!!!!!!!
Sharon: You raised two questions, and I'll answer them one at a time:
Regarding statuses not showing up until you added an entry: This is intentional. If there is nothing to view in that status, why should I present a "View by status" for that one? There's no reason to go in there unless there are items. This is versus the categories, where even if a category is empty, you still want to be able to enter so that you can add a new item. Make sense? Am I doing the right thing here? Let me know!
Regarding dates: I don't really know what you're talking about. I intended to not show any dates anywhere at all!
Hi Dave,
The status situation sounds fine to me. And it did show after I assigned something one of the new ones I created.
Regarding dates: In the journal, when you add an entry, there is are drop down lists for the dates-month, day, year. I was wondering if you were going to add that feature in as well.
Sharon
That's what I thought you were talking about (dates).
Well, here's the thing. The trade list is really an inventory, while the journal is, well, a journal.
A journal uses dates extensively.
But why would you have a date in the trade list? I'm planning to put a "Year Harvested" type date field in, but on an entry-by-entry (as in, entry attached to an item) I see no reason to include dates.
Thoughts?
Dave
That's fine, I was just curious. The trade list interface looks so much like the journal. I just didn't know if you were putting it in there.
Sharon
It looks like the journal because I've taken a lot of the code from the journal to make the trade lists.
Also - I'm trying to standardize on this kind of interface for apps here on DG. The journal is really quite advanced as far as web apps go, and I'd like to eventually operate lots of stuff with my journal engine.
Trade lists, trade tracking, journals (of course), one day a shopping cart system, plants database, eventually these will all be driven by the journal code. This is one big reason why I want to make it as intuitive and easy to use as possible!!
One of the challenges and problems of programming: The more advanced and powerful the software, the more difficult it is to make it easy to use. I'm really focusing on ease of use right now. Any help you can provide is VERY helpful to me. I'm no judge of ease of use.
For me, the journal is very easy to use. I'm sure it's not that way for everyone. But once you get the hang of creating categories and status, it gets easier. You've designed it to be as simple or as detailed as the user wants it to be. That's good. I do think a tutorial in the help section will eventually be a good idea. Most web sites use the fill in the blank and the drop down list. But you have taken it so much further. I do think that using the journal code across the other lists will make it easier for everyone to get used to using the format.
My two cents worth!
Sharon
Click, click, click, ... another 300 clicks for Sharon! :)
At least 300!!!!! LOL!!!!!!
Dave,
I was going to send you an email, because I thought you might want someone "stupid" to try it out for you, but my computer tells me that the email page cannot be displayed.
Just one more glitch to a sofar glitchy day.
Kathleen
Try again Kathleen. It is working for me.
Dave
Dave,
Does your beta test have anything to do with why my trade page is not
working? I don't have my traders e-mail addresses, can't E,D,or send
any notices of trades sent.
Thanks
Honeybee

It shouldn't Honeybee. I don't know why you're having that problem... Anyone else having trouble with their regular lists?
I just tried my lists and was able to edit a post. What happens when you try to make an edit? Is this your seedlist you're having trouble with, or your trades database? Or your journal? Let me know.
