Fall foodies!

Thomaston, CT

Love them roasted......

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Meee to! Thinking roasted veggies are on the menu tonight.

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

DW made a red-wine braised beef with apple gremolata (from great chefs recipe). I contributed roasted curried cauliflower.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Yum!

Methinks chili is on the menu tonight.

Thomaston, CT

Both great recipes for this weather! Going out with a friend for lunch, so soup for dinner.....

Thomaston, CT

Making breaded veal cutlets with a white wine-lemon sauce, butternut squash & sauteed broccoli with garlic......baked a raspberry coffee cake for dessert, & threw it away....came out like Italian bread instead....now I remember why I don't bake!

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

hmmm.... I wonder what raspberry italian bread would taste like with Fontina cheese...?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Made a fish chowder and tried using half and half and it curdled even though the soup got no where near boiling! Why don't I learn not to use half and half? This isn't he first time I have curdled soup. Have to eat it anyway - too much money in it to waste. On the other hadn - the onion soup came out great!!! It is the port that makes it!

Albany, ME(Zone 4b)

A YankeeCat, this is probably coming in too late, but you could strain out the solids and then put the liquids in a blender and the curdles would probably disappear.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

leftovers, DH is in a snowplow

Thomaston, CT

Evaporated milk works better than half & half for me, Memory.....Don, maybe if I tried looking at the coffee cake as a special bread, it would have tasted better.......

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

From what I am reading - it is just the half and half that curdles. Trader Joes doesn't carry cream - so I might have to go somewhere else sometimes to shop. :(

Thomaston, CT

Today is a hot cocoa, popcorn kind of day...made beef noodle soup on Saturday, had leftovers for lunch....made stuffed shells yesterday....leftovers tonight!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Will enjoy leftovers today, cuz tomorrow is prep for colonoscopy on Thursday. Joy, joy!!

Thomaston, CT

Good luck, Jan! I have to cook something for tonight......probably pork chops baked with apples & cider.....

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Went to Chowdafest at Webster Arena on Sunday. Must have tasted 15 different kinds of chowders and soups.

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

After catching up on my snow shoveling, I saw an interesting recipe for a milder path thai dish called kwaytiow paht si-yu, in the Quick and Easy Thai book. But when I checked the fridge, things spiraled out of control. It ended up with pork, spinach, peppers, carrots, celery, thai basil, onion, garlic, fish and soy sauce, gallinga, rice noodles, etc. Amazingly DW, who usually casts a dim eye at my Asian cooking, liked it (maybe because she won't have to cook for a couple of days!).

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks!

Sounds wonderful, Don

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Also meant to say a chowdahfest sounds absolutely delish!!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

It was fun - and very crowded! There were crackers, cheese, ales, wine and ice cream as well to taste. I was just there for the free snacks, but people were taking the voting for the best really, really seriously!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Really want to eat something. Prepping for a colonoscopy tomorrow sucks.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Yes it does!

Thomaston, CT

The Thai sounds yummy.....I'm not a fish eater though, so chowder is wasted on me.......Tried the raspberry coffee cake once again....it's in for its second rise....hopefully, this one will come out much better than my last try......

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

Not sure if colonoscopies are prime fodder at dinnertime, but since you mentioned it...

I went in for one and was all prepped and waiting for the doc when the nurse gave a little cry and collapsed onto the floor. I yelled for help and the room was soon filled with medicos, one of whom immediately wheeled my gurney out into the hall in my fetching backless hospital gown. Far too many minutes later an ambulance arrived and departed with the nurse, and an embarrassed doc finally performed my procedure (back in the treatment room, not in the hall!).

Thank goodness doctors nowadays are more reluctant to prescribe colonoscopy. I haven't had one since.

Thomaston, CT

Wow.....hope the nurse is OK......pretty shocking. Second raspberry coffee cake came out better than the first, but I'm still not overjoyed with it......too much like bread, although the taste was pretty good.......

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I'm thinking about reducing, even more, the animal products in my diet. I wonder if I really can make yogurt out of one of the "other" milks - like almond milk.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Sorry, Don! Hehehe. Glad your scope was finally done in a room. Came through with flying colors. He did remove a few polyps, s will be back again in 3-5 years.

Came home and had some yogurt and then some scrambled eggs. Now for a nap.

Good luck, AYC on that venture!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Thanks - it looks like a whole lot of work to make vegan food that looks like non-vegan food.

Thomaston, CT

Glad things went well, Jan.....Memory, I had almond yogurt that I bought in Stop & Shop.......threw it away.....too much like wallpaper paste......

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

EWWWW that sounds icky!!

Chicken parm tonight.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Hope all went well w/the testing Jan. I remember all to well how that preping sucks!

Made roast turkey w/mashed taters, gravy, cranberry, steamed asparagus and baked squash. I hadn't had turkey since Nov.!!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I love Thanksgiving foods! Guess Vegan is really not going to work for me. LOL!

Thomaston, CT

Hard to give up turkey, or my favorite, corned beef....making Swedish meatballs for tomorrow's dinner.....glad you mentioned squash, Pixie......have to include that!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The smell of roasting garlic is making me hungry - and I just had breakfast! Roasting veggie to make soup later today.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Lunches this week will be Walnut, mushroom, lentil loaf on roasted vegetable puree with cranberry relish.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Sounds interesting, AYC.

Last night's soup/chili fellowship dinner was good. I sampled three different ones. My fave was the cream of broccoli. Delish!!!

Celeste, it went well. Back in 3-5 yrs.

I roasted cauliflower for a dinner party and it was a hit!!! Jeff could pop them like candy. I also made a fried apple and onion sauce to go with the pork. That was a hit, too!! I like it when I add a little vinegar. Zingy!!

Leftovers tonight.

Thomaston, CT

Mmm...sounds good! My sister made a good cauliflower dish with Romanesco cauliflower,,,,,,,it was mashed with cream cheese, parm cheese, garlic & scallions.....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Mmmmmm.......

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

Is there a recipe for this? Sounds so good I'm going to try to grow it this year. Funny that most catalogs lump it in with broccoli, not cauliflower.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Glad to hear it Jan :) I have to go every 2...im due again.

Made chilli and honey cornbread last night with white chocolate/macadamia nut cookies.
