Oooops, thought I had gorren them from you... Thanks for the others...I wontn't send til I finish collecting anything else I might find in the garden that you might like. Will be a few days as I'm busy planting.
CLOSED: Fall Round Robin Seed Swap 2013 - Interest
Same here i have more to collect yet I wanted to ask if i was to plant seeds now like astilbe, aster,or heuchura (ms) sorry right in the place where i want them to grow would that count as winter & do you think they would grow in the Spring ?
I've had Aster and Heucheras, neither ever reseeded in the garden for me so I would have to guess it should be a more controlled type of setting, indoors under lights and warmth.
i would love to join this seed robin if i may?
Glad to see you! Welcome. :)
I would like to join this robin, too, please. I participated once before, a few years ago.
Lovin' those marigolds, deejay9.
Sure thing, NisiNJ.
I'll add you to the list up top.
Please let me know if I have missed any one.
Thanks!
I'd like to join if it's not to late!
Not too late. Welcoming me aboard!
Here's a funny... I pressed the wrong link and "unwatched" this thread. Hahaha. Figure I had to come back asap.
Amanda, I'd love to join as well.
OMG it doesn't look like I'm signed up for the Robin. This the trade that got me started on seed collecting and trading, I want in. I already posted my have's and want's some time ago, opps.
Crikey I will fix thAt straightaway Dee.
And welcome Blue. Glad to see you back.
I lost a post just now trying to load the silly picture of Court my partner. I promised I would never post t on FB but I made no promises about DG! :)
I was lamenting TH loss of my enviously long growing season to frost This past week. Saddened .. I have deadheaded cosmos and zinnias well past Thanksgiving in years past. Made me think I need more mums and snaps and pansies.
And then I remembered a sweet thing Court said when I came home with buyer's remorse and a flat or two (or more???) of flowers after I left my job. We were broke, but he said, "you have to have your flowers."
So here's some snaps of my flower child and me. Hope you don't mind, but I remembered this photo and thought you'd get a kick out of it too. Don't tell you saw it here.
Have a fun day. :)
Edited to say . . . I think I have everyone listed up top. If I've managed to miss you please poke me and I'll add your name gladly. Still have plenty of time to sign up.

Thanks for sharing Amanda...what goes on in DG, stays in DG (mums the word).
I have a question: With all the reserve requests, will this robin be taking a boomerang route so that everyone gets their ask? Seems like a circular route will not accomplish that.
Good to see you too, Lazlo, Amanda, Alana, Ronnie and other fellow piggies and friends. Where have I been? Would you believe I've been looking for the secret to the Universe? I found it in a place called Now, where answers disappear before they appear and editors transform Proust in yes/no bits of infinitessimally short bygone memories. Personally, I have found the Kingdom of Now to be too brief for me to retain any answers, so I remain as clueless as I ever was.
How about you? Where have you been?
Hello Karen! I found the secret when I stopped looking!
Wow. I'm still struggling with this.
As evidenced by a nice woman at school (a microbiologist actually) who purchased and gave to me a book by Allan Watt called "The Wisdom of Insecurity." Perhaps the most confusing and mind numbing tome I have ever read, save "Ulyssess" by James Joyce. Probably a close second. To be fair, I tried to read Ulyssess in college. Perhaps I could try again and it would be less so.

A.
I truly believe this
"In order to lead a fulfilling life, one must embrace the present—live fully in the now"
It's taken some time to get here but worth it...some things do come with age!! :)
Bluespiral ~ Oh, what a nice thing to say! Only thing about "my" now, it fades so fast as well...where does it go anyway?? Oh..."Life is But a Dream"........
Yes Amanda ~ At least we have our flowers. We are never poor if we have our seeds and the dreams of more flowers to come....
As long as I don't mistake now for then I do alright.
Speaking of piggies, I will try not to duplicate Hog Wild seeds in this swap, or at least not very much. It looks like there are a number of trough mates here.
As soon as the flight path is determined I will send any seeds I have for people that get the box before me to you Amanda, so they can make the maiden voyage.
Amanda - The Wisdom of Insecurity is such a fertile title...didn't realize there was anything positive to be said about insecurity, so sounds like some interesting winter reading. Where would those bursts of laughter that tether us to the present be without insecurity mired in the past?
Ronnie, not to many years ago, one of my temporary assignments landed me in a place where some of those folks were practicing "living in the present moment" - they called it mindfulness. Can't be more explicit here, but I can't agree with you more.
Alana - good thinking - I'll try not to duplicate seeds I share here with the piggies, too. Talk about mind-numbing, in a good way, y'all wouldn't believe Tuinkabouter's list. Zapotec this and Tibetan that and Iceland poppies and Australian protean flowers (spelling?) - reminds me of those botanic voyages when when Captain Cook was cruising the seas for exotic and useful plants. He had a botanist on board one of his expeditions, Joseph Banks, if my memory is working, after whom one of Tuinkabouter's proteas is named. Shutting up about the piggies now.
Did y'all know that the expedition involved in Mutiny on the Bounty was looking for economically useful plants?
I apologize if I numbed anyone's mind besides my own, but it's getting late so we should be in bed anyway - right? lol..am returning this thread to its regular programming...
Someone asked how the route would be determined. In the past I believe Susie had an "East" and a "West" route.
We will work out the logistics. With a little help from my friends!
OK, I'm back from my travels, and would love to join. I won't get to the garden until tomorrow to see what's left to collect, but I've just gone through my stash and have quite a bit to share already. Some are commercial packets left over from other years or duplicates- I forgot I'd ordered from T&M's summer sale, and re-ordered some of the same things in a later one, silly me. I also have a few seeds left over from trades and a handful collected before I left. None are older than 2011.
Edited to move the lists to the other thread...

has anyone tried to order seeds from Torinor on amazon.com ? Not just this one but there are others that when i try to place an order it might be an $6.-$8. & then they want to charge ya $11. + Dollars for a few packs what is up with this ? anyone Know ?
Can anyone expound on the 'Hog Wild seeds' story, perhaps some of us newbies can extrapolate some etiquette wisdom? I for one, don't want to be a 'piggy'.
Mipii, the piggy swap is about sharing and generosity, the same as any other swap, but it also is about the ability to laugh at our piggy selves' joy and excitement over seeds and the infinite possibilities that seeds represent for any gardener worth his/her salt in dreams. Any survivor of a disaster that has taken their garden and would like to start again receives free seeds - whatever they may wish for that is within the ability of the swap to provide - up to the same amount as regular traders. Extra seeds also go to charities that are known to dispense free seeds, as well.
I have been with this group from the beginning, when it began in the DG Cottage Garden forum under Illoquin, and have stayed with it as it moved to cubits under Starlight1153. The rules may seem complicated at first, but I do not know of any other swap with such a high outcome of individual wishes fulfilled.
ps - check out Joseph's land race vegetables - he is generous with his seeds and knowledge
pps - JonnaSudenius' focus on wildflowers is educational too

We're finally headed for the garden tomorrow- I'm hoping the Mums and Asters will be still going when we get there, and it will be interesting to see what seeds are left to gather. We're getting there just in time, too-- a hard freeze is predicted for Sunday and Monday nights, down to the low 20's. Summer is really, really over :-(
Pfg - we briefly got down to 30 a few nights ago, and a few leaves at upper heights got singed, but lower down, dahlias, chrysanthemums, Lobelia siphiliticum, pansies missed by rabbits, Aconitum carmichaelii (sp?), and a patch of Crocus speciosum among a few other stragglers still bloom - without 'squeeters :) 20's haven't shown up until November around here in recent years, which is quite a change from the 70s & 80s.
Mipii - oops - forgot to answer your question about piggy etiquette - the only expected behavior is mutual respect and kindness - same as anywhere else. No one is required to oink - it's just silly, self-deprecating fun that has become a tradition left over from the piggy swap's early days on DG under Suzy/Illoquin.
I like being a piggy, Mipii! That swap is in my top three all time favorite yearly seed swaps even though it is one of the newest to me. I'm only on my third year as a seed oinker. Diversity, both people and seeds, make it special.
I'm home early today and the leaves are gorgeous but we are supposed to have high winds and storms later so they may get ripped from their moorings tonight. I need to get back outside and get an eyeful in case things look different in the morning.
Well then...I DO want to be a piggy, you guys make it sound.........special.
I was already a seedaholic and thought I'd be compounding the 'disease' with piggy tendencies if left unchecked. I can't just stop and smell the roses anymore, I've got to check for seeds too.
I was expecting to learn how not to be a piggy. Thank goodness for mentors! And, thanks for the background info Blue and Alana. Happy Halloween everyone!
Robin
Amanda, as long as your garden paraphernalia on the porch don't impart a culinary flavor and make trick or treaters think you're expecting Hansel and Gretel for dinner, you'll be fine lol.
Susie invited us piggies over here last year, and crossing swaps just seems to augment trading energy synergistically. Every swap, to me, seems unique, and there is always something new to be learned by sharing different experiences. So, besides smelling a rose and pawing around for seeds, we might find ourselves on a journey investigating many aspects of the rose - http://www.rosegathering.com/arttour.html
There was a DG member, Louisa, who left about the time I joined DG, but the aforementioned link changed my attitude about what might be possible with a computer. Her threads are very edifying and if you love roses, be sure to click on her member page to read some of her threads.
Wow, Louisa is a passionate Rose gardener. Roses are something I never tried to grow until this year...I admit to intimidation. They are marvel material, I especially enjoy them when coupled with fragrance. I don't know how much trading energy I can expend, I'm having a blast. Can one die of euphoria or actually burst with enthusiasm?
Thanks for the link Blue, many hours of happy reading there.
That's funny. The answer is, "it depends." (That's what we learned to say in law school if we didn't know the answer right away. :D
If one can die from a broken heart, it must be entirely possible to die of euphoria. Burst with enthusiasm? I've survived that one for at least three or four Robins, so I'm glad to say it's not fatal.
But save your strength! The best is yet to come.
What? There's more? Amanda you're killing me (at the very least an accessory)! I'm gonna have to write an article about the benefits of a DG subscription...and of course, the downfalls.
I'm a monster! I say this as I'm currently shopping for an extra acre of land (anybody have an extra acre of land?) -- want to grow more -- need to grow more! Drat my postage stamp yard (the same one I used to think was 'cute').
THANKS everyone!
There's always container gardening says another girl (me) who used to have a postage stamp sized yard. :)
I do some container gardening too, it's just not the same...argh!
I have 4 more acres here that could be planted if you're intrested. LOL. Ok...my package should be going out tomorrow... Kathy
