question re: nursery trials

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

didn't really know where to pose this question so i put it here.

if a dg member who represents a nursery d-mails you with an offer to do plant trials for them, is it customary to charge the person (me)? i don't know the person who contacted me, at least i don't remember running into her before, but i know the nursery is legit and has a good rating.

i ran this question by a friend of mine who has done plant trials for various nurseries in the past and she thought the idea of "free plants/steep shipping charge" sounded wrong. she said she never had to pay anything.

i declined the offer for several reasons but after i thought about it more, i decided to find out what other people here thought of this.

If she contacted YOU, then SHE should pay for everything. You're doing HER the favor of participating in her trial.

I wouldn't pay, either...

It should be free plants/free shipping and, "THANK YOU, VERY MUCH FOR HELPING ME OUT!"

i hear ya loud and clear! that's what i thought too! thanks for responding.

Mmmm, well....this activity borders on solicitation (assuming they offer the plants for free) and IS solicitation if they are asking you to pay for the plants - and we haven't given anyone permission to do that.
