FALL 2013

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, your Acer color far exceeded any that we got this year. Our garden is still full of blooms, especial roses and way too many plants that need to be cut back and cleaned up, but we have been short on dramatic fall color except that the Tupelo's (Nyssa) that were better than normal as were some of the viburnums. I had a horrible case of Shingles which meant no gardening for 3 weeks, but now all better, so we will get in all cleaned up and ready to plant the fall bulbs by Thanksgiving. I was restrained with the orders and think the count is far less than normal, but I haven't dared add it up yet.

Rosemary, your color is exceptional too. We are up in Vt for a few days and all the color is gone, but the ground isn't frozen yet which is way odd. DH spent all day yesterday dealing with the leaf litter and managed on burning out his leaf blower. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. He had to go up on the roof and tie himself off to a bathroom vent pipe so he could safely get all the leaves off as he found our new standing seam roof to be dangerously slippery. Patti

Glad you are recovering so well, Patti! This warmer weather is giving us a longer period to comfortably plant bulbs. The local nurseries haven't put their bulbs on sale yet, so they know people are still buying them.

Even though it will be in the 30s the next few days, the 50s will return by the weekend, so nice bulb planting weather continues.......glad to hear the shingles are gone, Patti.....never thought about the slippery factor of those roofs! Hey, Jo, how are things in Pittsford? My brother will be up there for Thanksgiving, hope you don't get any snow!
