Good morning all! Sorry I've been so absent lately, I've just been awfully embarrassed to admit that, try as I might, I can't think of a darned thing that I "want", and I have nothing to offer to anyone this time around! =( This growing season for me was focused on annuals, and unless anyone wants oodles of average ordinary wax begonias, there's just not much there.... (we had the In Laws visiting earlier this Spring, so we went for Pop- Right- Now colour this year)... and then, between rescues from work, and seeds from a Loving member here whose name begins with Gita, there's not one little thing I could possibly want! I feel like such a twenty fifth wheel!! < =/ Like Aspen mentioned earlier, I should have something looking good in the Spring, as I'm planting now (and hopefully the "rescues" fare well), but as for now, everything is either boring annual, or non-dividable half-dead who-the-heck-knows-what. So embarrassing!!
I do look forward to seeing everyone, ... does that help? < =)
Fall Swap 2013 Sallyg's DISCUSSING haves and wants
LOL Speedie--I am looking forward to meeting you! :-)
speedie---
I wish you lived closer! You would never be short on plants.....:o)
Maybe in late spring--I should make a trip down to visit you.
Would that freak you (or DH) out?
I never go anywhere--sit home like a lump on a log...It would be
nice to take a drive through the wonderful state of MD. --car loaded with plants....
G.
speedie- you might have more fun with no plants to worry about. And there are always too many plants brought- you may HAVE to take something home lol
happy macomb issued a Last Call on the other thread- my fault for accidentally reviving it . Anyway she also said
"Also -- if you want to, please check my "haves and wants" posting to make sure I have you down for anything you are counting on, because if it isn't there, that means I have forgotten it and I want to make sure you are taken care of. (Catmint -- this doesn't include the plants we discussed ...)I did have a few "crop failures" -- I'll try to address by dmail."

***Just FYI
--All the Brazilian Plume cuttings are/will be in bloom. So cute!
--The Twisted Lipstick plants are NOT yet fully rooted. These will take a while..
Be patient....leave them alone....Keep moist and part shade.
This group of plants (Columnea) take a long time to root.
--The Swedish Ivy has been pinched back so it can grow bushier.
Do it again in as needed. About 2-3 pinchings will give you a nice, full plant.
--The Oxalis was JUST divided. DO NOT fret if all the leaves drop off...
as the divisions got planted deeper than they were growing. It will grow new ones...
from the little corms .

I have 2 Heuchera Encore to add to my offer.
The leaves are bright red when they first emerge in early spring and then get a pretty silver hue. But they're not looking robust, like Caramel or Citronelle, so I'm checking to see if anyone else wants to give it a try.
ssgardener Yes, I'd like to try 'Encore'! And, I could use some more cactus soil, too. Thanks
You got it, Judy!
I have a feeling they're going to do better in another location. I had another Heuchera (Stoplight) that didn't like that spot.
I still have one more Encore left.
Hi Ssg. I'd be happy to take the other encore. :-)
Sally---
Can you tell me what all this is about???? Does anyone ever open it up?
Read more: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1327565/#ixzz2da07Y2jy
It is EVERYWHERE!!!!! AAAARRRGGGHHHH....GRRRRRRRRR....
I am sooo tired of deleting it! WHY is it there????
Does it change with whatever the topic is on the current thread????
Like--if you open it, would it be relevant to the topic on that Post?
Been wanting to ask this on the DG Forum....but don't want to stir
up a hornet's nest. So many people complaining on there...
And--Sally--Thank you for the c/p. Is it true you cannot c/p from one Forum to the next???
Or--did I try too many times? Should I have done the "quote" thing?
This has happened to me before--more than once. I am at a loss....
There were a few "things" I wanted to add....which would have been on MY c/p.
Not necessarily, asked for things..just comments...
I have been outside (drip...drip...) most of the day tagging and putting everything
asked for in trays. Whoopie!!!! I have 4 trays full! Still have the bagged bulbs...
They are not just the daffs. I have some Tete-a-Tetes and also some small mixed bulbs.
I suppose I will bring some stuff that is not asked for. She hopes against hope....
Can't believe no one has asked for the "Fishnet Stockings" Coleus!!
It has been--what?--4 days? They are all rooted....
OK! Now R&R the rest of the evening...TV and picking seeds out of EVERY little
Basil bloom with a wood toothpick...Love it! As long as nothing else is heavy on my mind.
My DR table is already 1/3 full of little containers of seeds I have gathered.
Latest ones are from Cardinal Flowers. They are just like Foxgloves--brown dust....
Gita
You got it, Catmint!
Gita, I'd love to try 'Mocha' with 'Inky Fingers' coleus, please! And if you still have one of those "really dwarf" hostas left, I've been working on the front garden and have a good spot for it. Thanks!
Yes--to all. Would you like to have the "Mocha" Coleus in a larger pot?
I have 2 in bigger pots---ready as a houseplant. Or--you can have the rooted cuttings,
if you prefer.
I have 2 of the little Hostas left. However--I cannot imagine this Dwarf Hosta in a garden bed?
It is SO tiny! I mailed one to Jen for her Fairy garden.
They are in shallow, 4" pots...See? Really pretty blooms.
G,
How pretty! I didn't realize it was that tiny... I was envisioning it next to a stepping stone, but even there it might get overwhelmed... no worries, I will still find an excellent place for it -- in a container! You know Joyanna will declare it to be "a precious!"
Either plant or cuttings works for me with the coleus... If you do have one of the "houseplant" ones unclaimed, I'll pass it along to my MIL when they come to visit in October. It should do OK even in one of her not so bright windows, and she'll love that rich color. There's also enough time before their visit to grow a cutting up into a pretty little plant, so again, either way works. :-)
Aww Gita they are adorable! Can I have one?
Aaawwww, thank you guys!!! Sally, I'm sure you're right, there always seems to be "a little something extra" looking for a good home... Surely not MINE, right!? ;)
Gita, what you REALLY should do is come visit me at work!!! Give me a day or 2's notice so I can pack us a picinic (basket, BooBoo!, heehee) lunch which we can enjoy under the pergola by the waterfall... sound inviting?? =) DO NOT bring a car load of plants, LOL!!!!!! (Don't make me have to pull out my shovel and extend my beds; school will be back in session again in 2 weeks and I just won't have time!!) ... you have no idea how tempting it's been to say "yes please" to one of those gorgeous tiny little Hostas... I can picture the pot it should go in out back.... MUST exercise self-control!! < =x
Catmint, I am REALLY looking forward to meeting you too, BIG TIME!! < =D I'll be the one in STEELERS Black-and-Gold, (gold bands on braces as well). That should bring a smile to Paul's face, eh? < =D
Ughhhhhh arg. Speedier means she will look like a bumble bee.
Lol
That reminds me...wasn't there talk of Speedie and Gita and Donner and others having a Gardening Hat Fashion Parade" ????? (I'll toss mine in the van just in case)
I'm an 'undeclared' football fan but I was raised in Chicago area and will always be a Cubs fan.
Hmm, problem for me is my old garden hat died, and my new one is way too spiffy still for such a parade! I'll have to see what's lurking at the back of my closet...
Speedie, those gorgeous tiny hostas don't require any digging! And you know you have the right container... empty... just waiting... If you change your mind, you can have mine.
I was raised in Pittsburgh, so... GO STEELERS!
You couldn'tpay me enough money to wer a hat!!!!
No Go on all this....being a party pooper....Gita
Ok, last call -- dmail me ASAP (next few hours) if you want anything and aren't already on my list. (SallyG -- sorry for mxing up the threads -- do you think Admin would change the title of this one to "part 2" and the other one to "part 1"?)
I am Speedier than a running Felix Jones -- Muuaaahahahaaa!!!! Bzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!! < =D I will be ready with hat in hand... sadly, just a regular-looking (aka: Goofy-Looking) floppy hat, not Black-and-Gold. Sorry Paul, I know that breaks your heart. < =D
Critter, I absotively posolutely will NOT steal your beautiful baby Hosta from you, and you can't make me! < =P heeheeheee
Hmm. I have been known to put plants in people's cars when their backs were turned, but I'm quite taken with this little hosta, so probably not.
Didn't dig stuff today, hopefully tomorrow. I'm only going to pot up a couple of Rose of Sharon, unless somebody else posts me me me me for them. I'll save a few in place that can be dug in spring. :-)
And I will make sure my truck is locked up -- just in case you are stuck by some silly little urge. < =P
Critter what kind of Rose of Sharon do you have? Mine has been sickly ever since I brought it home from the nursery earlier this summer and I'm beginning to wonder if it will make it. :-( I finally figured out it had spider mites and sprayed it with Neem oil a couple times but it hasn't really recovered. Finally transplanted it this weekend to its new garden bed by the fence with the Joe Pye weed-- and boy does it look sad! :-( I'll have to post a photo as soon as my computer is fixed (hopefully later this afternoon).
Cat--et al---
I have lots seeds for a beautiful Rose of Sharon "Lavender Chiffon".
I have never grown it--but took off pocket--fulls of seed pods from this plant
which was on a clearance table at Lowes.
I will be glad to bring, anyone that wants, aa packet of seeds.
R of S. should root easily...These are from 2010.
here's the tag from the pot. Gita
My ROS shrubs were grown from wintersown seed -- easy. Now they seed themselves. :-) Most of the seedlings are probably white with red center, some will be offsprings of the one I grew from seeds from a 'Blue Bird' ROS (mine looks much like Gita's 'Lavender Chiffon'). There are probably some 2 year old seedlings out there, because I don't have the heart to pull up ones that look like they're doing well. LOL
My violet-blue one is actually planted together with a white/red one, which is why it's hard to guess about the seedlings. I'll see if I can find a photo...
Here's the stage where I get kerfuffley about getting all the plants labeled, gathered, under watchful eye because some are tender in the pots, all different sizes, shapes and conditions....I'm going to add the recipient's name in RED on my labels. Just before swap I will try to gather them 'by recipient,' so that each person can easily see what they have/ I can easily grab what goes to a particular person. Easy for me to say as I have limited things to worry about!
We have not discussed a gift table, but we usually have a voluntary assortment of white elephant/ garden related stuff and extra special plants on a table, and then draw names. There will be a table, no big deal.
FWIW Article on history of Rose of Sharon and discussion of varieties new and old.

Less than 4 days to go.
Are we excited yet?
Name tags???
Oh,yeah- gotta check. I think I have some from last time.
OR we could all wear hats with our names on them...
wait for it....
