Heavens no you aren't asking too many questions.
Lite is a red tri, like my avatar who is the sire of the litter. I work my dogs daily on the farm where they do a multitude of chores like moving ducks, geese, sheep, goats and cattle. They also keep all the tennis balls rounded up.
Evan made me an armadillo, he is my son, Evan, not the armadillo. His boss, a vet, liked it so he made her one. He made this herd last weekend when he was visiting his dad, and they sold immediately. He has made shoe racks, towel bars, and more, but is starting to branch out a bit. I need to take him junking with me up at Canton to get items that he can use creatively. He wants to make me a wind mobile out of junk if I can provide him with some material and ideas.
Kitt, the plant and flowers have no smell, and since I have never had anything like it before I believe it must have been in some NOID seeds that I scattered earlier in the fall. If so, I don't remember rustling any that looked like that. They are away from the livestock, in my flower beds and I can easily dig them up so it doesn't happen again. I was hoping for larkspur or native something that was really pretty. Sigh. It is really green and yellow, the only other green is the stinging nettle right now.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Jo needs to weigh in on that one - I am out away from my handbook again. Natives such as wild yarrow, larkspur, pinks and phlox are a bit north of ya. Will keep an eye open as I roll.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I absolutely love the armadillos. Your son is very talented. I can't wait to see what else he comes up with.

I will definitely let you know if and when we plan to head your way for manure. I know I will be bringing extra buckets to the RU in the spring. David works weekends but I am sure I will come. You are only an hour and 15 min from me.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

My doubts are due to the shiny leaf- since the plant numbs the mouth the animals dont know it is blistering their mouth.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

OMG, rouxcrew - I just saw the puppy picture. How cute is that! Lucky you gets to play with all that happiness! Whoo-hoo!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Joy? Just heard ice hit the area, hope all is well, and hope warmth is on the way.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

We made out ok, didn't get much rain or sleet just enough to weld every single gate latch shut on the farm. Couldn't even get out of the yard for a while. I took a fall later in the morning while refilling bird feeders. Small piece of porch ice took me out. All morning I managed just fine only to hit a tiny holdout.
Just a little sore, I will milk it to see if I can get sympathy work out of Dave. LOL

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Ive lived in my house since it was built in 1984 and never had a burst pipe. I have one now. Two story house, pipe in ceiling of Living Room.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh no Marty! That is terrible. Hope you can get it fixed quickly.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

My plumber cant come until Monday. It will be a pain to live with this all week end but I dont want any other plumber but him. Sorry about your fall, Joy. Hope nothing is broken. Keep warm, Marty

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Marty? Did you get the water upstairs turned off? I do hope you had a shutoff for that! Hope you dont have other leaks either! Seems like when one starts others show up...Joy I am glad you are ok. I carry a claw hammer in the ice- tho once in Fargo I washed the truck, pulled out into 4* bright sun and my truck door froze immediately shut shut in lock position. Glad that was at least the thinnest ice I've had to knock off! Take care of yourself guys!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

The only shut-off I have is the main one to the house. I have shut it off and if I need water, I'll just have to turn it back on briefly and then turn it back off (with buckets in place). I have barrels of rain water that work for some things and I have bottled water to drink. It will be inconvenient but doable.

Joy have you been over to the butterfly forum? The first of my sextuplets eclosed today. He/she is really beautiful.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh Marty, I am so sorry about your burst pipes, I hope not much damage was done by the water, Bless you.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Whew. I would be putting shutoffs everywhere! One on my hot water heater- reminds me dont let the water boil away in that. One for my baths, and another in the kitchen. Shudder. No shutoffs! I wish you luck nothin else goes!!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Kitt, this leak is very close to the outside shut off. If I had cut-offs in those other places, it would not help in this case. They are a very good idea for sure.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Oh Marty I am sorry to here you have a burst pipe and no help till Monday. I better let mine drip this week as Thurs it will be 23 degrees. I forgot to let it drip this last week and am lucky nothing happened. I have been here 25 years with no mishap but usually let them drip but not this year. I better be really careful.

Joy I fell a couple days ago. I went after my dog and stepped in a hole and did an awful sprain of my ankle and up into the calf. Of course on my behind I went. It has been really hurting. I am lucky nothing broke but my pride. I am glad you are ok also.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

I have to laugh Sandy, about the "pride" part. One thing that you learn pretty quickly on the farm is that at least four or five times a day you will look silly. Mud, blood, beer, no wait that is a country song, but not too far from the truth. If I'm not getting knocked around, I am surely getting stuff tossed on me or being humbled in other ways. You know that proverb, "Pride goeth before a fall", mine packed a suitcase and is wintering in the Bahamas. Dave has gotten the "Help I've fallen and I can't get up" phone call before. When he quit laughing he did ask if I was serious.

Joking aside, I am sorry to hear about your ankle.

I just love babies! They are so pretty, Joy. Will you keep and train them all or will some of them not be interested in herding as a career?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I agree on how very cute they are. It has been years since I have been around new puppies. I can remember the new puppy smell and it makes me smile.

Joy I remember my Dad was ready to milk our cow "Boots" My Dad worked off getting her and he hand milked her. He had a door behind her in out likke barn and a door in the front. I was standing in the front door as my dad went to open the one behind her to get ready to milk her. She decided to poop and as she did she coughed and it hit the door right when he was starting to open it. He was so lucky as he would have gotten it right about mouth and chest level. I still laugh to this day when I remember it.

I did remind him often how lucky he was.

I almost fell again last night at an Auction a friend of mine and myself went to. Lucky she saw and caught me. I had a 2 level lumbar fusion and it failed. As many times I have fallen each year I am Blessed nothing has happened to cause damage to that area or around it.

I am like your husband but I have learned to ask if ok before I really bust out laughing :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Joy those puppies are so cute!

Sandy, I sure hope your ankle heals quickly!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Goodness guys! Be careful where you step! Am just south of Rochelle Ill and not budgin til morning since this whiteout is fierce. Hope truck doesnt freeze shut in the cold.

That little puppy with the white spot on its back is adorable!! What a cute puppy pile.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Stephanie, she is my favorite.
I have a couple ice pictures, first is Sox, my big Clydesdale mare who came down from Canada years ago from a PMU farm. She is in heaven.
Then look what I found tucked into a tree this morning.
And last, Evan and Dave continued to work on my picket fence this weekend only to find that twelve of the pickets won't work because four are too short (didn't know they came in heights), and eight don't have "ears" on each end so that they can be connected seamlessly. Sigh. And of course I didn't keep any receipts because who'd a thunk it.
Now that the chill is off me, back outside I go to milk this morning.

Love the birdhouses!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Awwww! Smart baby! Ooooh LOOK @that picket fence and those birdhouses! Beautiful! I dont know if those Clydes like ice on the back tho- it isnt a good sign if it sticks on their backs. Just look at all that industry! O My! Awesome! I am working my way in thru the yaupons to that female mustang vine to get it rooted.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Kitt, it means she has tons of insulation to keep it from melting. My guineas had ice on them as well as they were running around this morning. Everyone is fine, they are quite content.
I have a big enough zoo that I don't want everyone to be in the house. LOL
How easily will a whip root from a female mustang grape?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Thats the problem. Apparently the mustang females wont root as cuttings except 1% of the time. I intend to see what I can do from the root itself. I may have another younger female also in the woods edge, so all I have to do is be there.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

What about an air layer?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Considered that, they aare supposedly finicky as all get out. A definite dont mess with me plant. What I need to find out is if the vines need a certain length or age to bear fruit. Do you know where you will put it if I get the plant to you? It will need a permanent home fast...i think i will be home in Feb sometime. All this freeze is keepin us busy up here.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Grapes produce on year old canes. So my 30 year old mustang grape should be pruned but who wants to climb that high. I have some compost dumped against my cross fence where my small muscadines are.
Be careful.

Hey Marty, did you get your plumbing fixed in time for the big freeze?

,

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Joy, it turned out to be a leaking HW heater instead. It's in the attic so it dripped thru upstairs and downstairs ceilings. I had not found the drip upstairs when I posted here. My pockets are lighter but Im a happy camper. I was wondering why I would have frozen pipes after living here 30 years without frozen pipes. Thanks for asking. I now have to fix the ceilings. Grrr.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Steadycam I understand the grrrr. Ceilings or any sheetrock work is definitely a grrrr Will you do it yourself or have to hire it out?

I had a 4 x 10 sheet fall in the garage a couple years ago and David id working on putting it back. I am not good at floating and taping. I sure hope he is....grrrr

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Apparently mustangs bear on new wood and need trimmed back 1/3. Only from what I see, the plants bear fruit their 3rd year. Most of the muscadines bought are grafted rootstock. This one is wild....Old too...

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I am having a co-op for Atlas Gloves on ATP if anyone is interested. The 370's are 2.07 a pair and the Thermals are 2.18 a pair plus postage. It will be open until Feb 8th and if you haven't used them they are great.

They sell any where from 5.50 a pair to 8.99 a pair retail.

Please forgive me if I already posted this. I have been under some stress and my memory and keeping things straight is suffering for it.

(((HUGS)))

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

The gloves I NEED are mules with sheepwool liners. Cant find em. I dont need any of the others dear. This life is tougher than those gloves can handle. -7°, 3°, -56° windchill. About to look into ordering the insulated freezer suits we used when I was young and hit the cold concrete milking barn and haybarn. Brrrr. That new kid have the name Frosty? He earned it.
Ceiling sheetrock rough to hang- even if just patches. Float and tape a cinch. The mud is premixed now, used to be powder form and i loved mixing it. Dont like the mud mixed with paint already, cuz it never felt sealed properly for me. More snow comin, time to get across Ohio and Pa and down to Elkton,Md. You guys stay warm. No more colds!

For those who put up with me bringing up my dogs into conversations, I was in Ft. Worth yesterday competing in the Stock Show with two of my dogs, Crush and Jam. Crush won the Open average and one of the two go rounds as well as third in the other go round. Jam was fourth and sixth and was second in the average.
Here is a video of Crush's winning run.

Congrats Joy, crush and Jam!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

That video was very neat Joy.

Kingsville, TX(Zone 9b)

Congratulations! Beautiful, well trained, and very intelligent dogs! I, for one, really enjoy the fact that you bring them into the conversations. Thank you for sharing!
