What About Tags & Time of Day?

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

There are 2 things on my 'wish' list that haven't been fixed yet. They are:

(1) Tags. Since the start of the recent site renovations I've not been able to find those little folder icons we used to use to tag a post or page. I found that feature very useful. Will it be coming back? Or is there some other way to tag items now?

(2) TOD. The date/time used to appear at the top of my home page (and maybe other pages, can't recall). That, too, seems to have disappeared with the makeover. Will it be coming back? I miss it. Among other things it helped me determine when/if my page had updated properly.

I've been holding off on asking about issues. I figured most were probably on the list already and would get taken care of in time, but now it looks like we may be getting close to the finish, so I thought I should speak up. Thanks for your time. I realize you have a lot going on right now.

Those are good questions. They are on my proverbial "radar screen" especially teh tags. But to be hornest, I'm not sure how we will address the time/date isscsue. Is a handy feature, although it's redundant (my computer displays it in my toolbar line at the bottom of the screen.)

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Hi Terry,

Thanks for your response.

I can get by ok w/o the time feature. I do have the date/time on my desktop but was using the one on the DG screen specifically as an indicator of when/if the screen had updated - like when I come back after an hour or so and refresh the DG screen. When the DG time matched my desktop time, I knew the DG screen was up to date. (Sometimes it does not connect and refresh, so I have to try again.) Anyhow, I've learned to use the Watched Threads time for this purpose.

The tags are much more important to me. I would really miss that feature if it were gone for good, so I'm glad that one is on the list.

Thanks again. I hated to bother you with this. I figured it was probably on your list and was waiting in hopes it would 'magically' get fixed - as most things do. I just didn't want to wait too long to speak up, just in case it had been overlooked.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Glad you asked, and as soon as we can, we'll have the tags back. I will ask about the date/time issue as well, but like I said I'm not sure how that one will work out.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Terry, I wonder if I could put in a "request" for when you redo tags (and I realize it won't happen for a while). Is it possible we'll be able to create "tags" for our own use?

You mentioned that the site-wide tags will be gone and that's fine with me. I could never use them anyway as they always locked up my computer. But sometimes I have trouble locating an item I've saved because the first word of an article may not be what I equate with the subject matter I'm searching for (even though the articles are alphabetized).

I realize it may be too difficult to do, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks!!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Yes, the tags will be for your own use and you can "tag" things with whatever name you wish to use (which is how it worked before, right?)

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

THANKS!!
Yes it did and still does work that way and I'm feeling pretty dumb right now!

I never used the "Cloud Form" because I thought it was connected to "everyone's" tags which always locked up my computer. But I just checked it right now after reading your post...what a "duh" moment I just had.

Thanks for teaching me something in spite of myself!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Always happy to help. And please don't hesitate to ask...there are a lot of nooks and crannies to this website, like most. And there are tips and shortcuts that we sometimes get so familiar with that we forget to share :-)

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks, again, Terry!!

This is the only website I know of where users have such easy access to admin. It's one of the many things I love about the site, as it makes good, 2-way communication so much easier.

Thanks a lot for the info. I'm ok w/o the date/time thing and am not seeking to rush the return of the tags. Just wanted to know it was on the list. I realize you have had much more important issues to deal with.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Think I probably mentioned it before, but if the date is added, can it be in a logical format like dd/mm/yyyy or yyyy-mm-dd, please!

You did, but thank you for the reminder, because it could have easily slipped my mind :-)

Just a reminder about getting the tags back...

Hugs!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

I got all worked up again just now, reading the last thread I'd posted on "the new problem" all the way thru since I stopped watching weeks ago.

I wanted to be sure you hadn't discussed the issue of tags elsewhere or there, so here we are.

Still disgusted/disgruntled.

Still waiting for "A.S.A.P." to come. And tags.

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Terry....are the Tags back yet? I am looking for some recipes I tagged.

Thanks

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

You still have access to your tagged pages. they are on your home page (same place as always). We are planning to bring back bookmarks/tags in an upcoming release, so you can bookmark/tag other pages.

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Okay...I found them....silly me.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

No worries - glad you asked!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Where is re-introducing the TAG FEATURE on the "To Do" list?

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

"Stretch, YAWN."

Give it up. If it ain't happened, it ain't never gonna happen. The kids in the bsmt are back to college and won't be home till winter break.

Tags (which will be called bookmarks) are scheduled for the next release. As soon as we have a release date, I'll let you know.

Does 'bookmarks' mean that we will only be able to mark things but not associate them with names or subjects as with tags? The ability to associate marked items with key words, especially alphabetically arranged key words, is important to being able to find them again when needed.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

As far as I know, you will be able to bookmark them with whatever name you choose.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Ok, thanks. That sounds good. So now if we can just get those tech folks working on it...

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Can't wait...I want to bookmark some recipes.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

They have been working on it for a while now, so as soon as it's ready to roll out, I'll give y'all a heads-up here :-) Thanks for your patience!

Speaking of the time of day, I think it is time to wake up and smell the roses. It ain't gonna happen!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm not sure we're re-inserting the time; that is true. But the tags are scheduled as part of the next release and as soon as I have a date for it to be implemented, you guys will be the first to know :-)

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I just noticed that Tags are back. Yay! From what I've seen so far, they seem to have the same functionality as before, so I'm happy. THANKS!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

We're happy that you're happy! Thanks for your patience - we know this took quite a while, but they retooled the process so it *should* work even better than before.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

It always worked fine for me - well, except during the recent 'blackout' period (when it was down following site updates). Apparently, I was one of the few who knew that you could tag individual posts all along. I think the new system will probably be easier for most people, since the bookmark icon is much larger and more visible and there is now a "Bookmark this post" link.

I can never get too impatient about these things, because I spent 15+ yrs as a software developer and thus am all too aware of the work that is involved and the stress developers live under.

Plus, now that Tags/Bookmarks are back, all is forgotten, and I'm happy, happy, happy. :-D

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I didn't notice the 'Bookmark this post' until you mentioned it--thanks, Dreams!

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Happy I could help, KyWoods!

On occasion I tag an entire thread, but most of the time the option to tag a specific post comes in very hand, making it easy to find a particular bit of information.
