Why are so many popular BirdFiles missing all pics?

Hi Terry and Melody,,
I just added 2 pics to the American Goldfinch BirdFile because it didn't have any. That seemed odd to me because it's such a popular bird, especially since there were quite a few comments going back about 5 years.

I decided to check some other popular backyard birds and one after another had no pics. Then I tried going to the "Order" list and just clicking on one...I think it was the first one. It did have pics. Lastly, I tried clicking on the "Order" for Goldfinches, just in case the common name list was messed up...still no pics.

I guess it could be a coincidence, but is there an issue that you know of with BirdFiles? If not, is it possible to check it out? I could be wrong, but I could swear some of the birds I checked had pictures in the past.

If everything is fine and there just aren't a lot of pics in BirdFiles, I know I'll feel pretty foolish, but I decided it was still worth asking anyway. Sorry about the timing with all the other issues right now.

Err, yes, there is a problem here! As you guessed, there used to be lots of American Goldfinch pics there, and now there's none, not even the two you just added.

Odd thing is, in the Carduelis species list* a thumbnail does appear.

It seems the Plant Files

Resin ~ I forgot to mention, since Admin. always verifies an entry is correct in BirdFiles, PlantFiles and BugFiles, I wouldn't expect to see my new pictures yet. I didn't check if your "Common Swift" was showing yet, or your other contributions.

When I add to PlantFiles it takes a minimum of several days. But what's going on with the rest of the files and is it connected to the other site issues or is it totally unrelated?

I hope everybody doesn't think this thread was intended as another outlet to express anger over the current site issues...because it wasn't. I was simply trying to let Terry and Melody know (as well as anyone else that may have experienced it) that there's a problem with BirdFiles.

Look, folks...I understand a lot of members are frustrated and many of you are angry...but expressing that frustration over-and-over in the the form of snide, nasty comments won't help the situation and It won't speed anything up. As members, we're all forced to experience those angry posts even though none of us caused the problems.

I, for one, am reading less and less of the "technical issue threads" just to avoid all the anger. I admit I may not be having as many difficulties as some of you, but If so, I don't know why. I use an older computer with an older operating system and an older (actually outdated) browser.

But here's how I look at it: My house hasn't burned down, my loved ones are all healthy and my husband hasn't recently lost his job. What else is really important?

If I offended any of you I apologize, but we need to get real. If we'd all stick to constructive comments and specific problems, these threads might be a lot shorter making it easier for Terry or Melody to read through.

Actually, in bird files (unlike plant files), pics do appear straight away, without admin review. Your two Goldfinch pics are showing on the BirdFiles Pictures forum (which they wouldn't, if they were awaiting an admin approval):

On a casual look-around, it seems to be species with numerous photos, where the photos don't show. Species where there's only a few pics, the pics are showing.

Thanks Resin! I wasn't aware that BirdFiles show up right away. But I did notice that a few of the Species had only a few pics. I thought maybe that was because only some of those pics had disappeared. Glad for the input.

I don't know if Terry or anyone else that deals with BirdFiles has seen this thread yet. I hope they have.

I deal with a lot of the general pic admin at BirdFiles (making sure they're under the right species, etc.), but not with the basic software management that this needs. So I'm as stuck here as you are ;-)
