I'd love to see photos of people's gardens, but the original Garden Showcase has gotten so full of photos of individual plants that I just stopped visiting. If the new, companion would stated explicitly at the top, where forums are explained that the purpose was to show how plants worked together, and that postings with photos of single flowers will be moved to the original Garden Showcase, would that be impolite or offensive? Note, it should also note that questions about gardening should be posted in other forums, so that "conversations" don't interfere with the flow of the "showcase."
Let me know what you think.
TIA
LAS
Could we have a "Garden Showcase Two" forum?
The Garden Showcase really isn't a forum. Rather, it's a personal gallery of photos, where others can view and comment.
We can try to do more education around what makes a "good" model showcase, but in the end, member-submitted content is subject to individual interpretation. Probably the best way to get the showcase working as planned is for more people (those who know what we're seeking) to be role-models with their own garden showcases, and to seek out and "reward" with positive comments the showcases that are what we're looking for.
Well, but it shows up in the list of forums. So, whatever it is, could we not have a 2nd one that is explicitly limited to non-single plants?
Ah, you mean this? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/gardenshow/all/
If so, that's a place to discuss the tech issues/questions for the Garden Showcase feature...
Oh, right!
It's been so long since I visited that I got the two places mixed up.
Thanks
LAS
OK, I see the impracticality of having a second Showcase, but how about an attribute somewhere called "single plant photo." I went to browse gardens and chose "cottage garden" style. My only criterion. The photos were ALL single blossoms until I got to the 4th page, where TWO long shots showed up.
Is there some way something like this could be done?
LAS14 - Thanks for starting this again. It's nice to know that others have made the same observation as I have. If you want to see individual plants, you can look at the plant database or a user's contributions. As I said in my original post at http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1317352/ , it is particularly annoying when a plant file says "View this plant in a garden," and all you see are individual plants and many photos that are unrelated to the search. That part I think is still a bug that has to be addressed. Thanks to DG for addressing the issue of saving the image order. It seems to work for me now. I numbered my photos to make them easier to put in order, just in case they get mixed up again.
