The new Link Colours are a problem!

Robertstown, Australia(Zone 10a)

I have severe visual problems around colour. I have Myopia, Keratoconus and Astigmatism. On top of this I am also on the Autism/Asperger's Spectrum. What is happening for me is that the change from Blue for unvisited and Green for visited to Green for unvisited and Purple for visited is making the purple go backwards into the screen and the green appear to float forwards like a bad three D effect. When it was Blue and Green both colours came "forward" to the same extent so that all the words appeared to be on the same plane, just in front of the normal black writing and the white and grey background which at least made logical sense to my somewhat muddled brain! Now it looks as if the contents of the screen are on three different levels!

If you have ever read any bad three D comics or seen a badly registered 3D film you can imagine what this is doing to my brain! Not to mention that I am so used to the green being for VISITED links that I am having trouble working out where I have been as I keep clicking on the opposite colour to the one I mean to click on. I went to bed with quite a bad headache the other day and DG has not done that to me before. I don't want to have to restrict the time I spend on DG as It is by far my favourite website, but equally I can't afford to return to the time in my life when I was suffering from 4 day long migraines on a weekly basis either!

Ciao, KK.

Kaelkitty, what browser do you use? On Firefox, I can set what color my visited and unvisited links are. I click on Tools in the top banner, then Options, then Content. In the pop-up box is an area for Fonts and Colors. When I click on Colors, I can set what colors my links appear to be. There is also a tick-box for something like "Allow webpages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above." I unticked that box. After doing that, my link colors reverted to the ones I selected, instead of the DG defaults.

There are probably similar settings on other browsers, though I'm afraid I can't give you a step-by-step on how to change them. Just wanted you to know, you CAN set them yourself to something that doesn't make your head go wonky!

PS, just a warning, it also removed the blue-grey color behind the posts, and the lines that divide the posts. This may be helpful for people who strongly prefer black text on a white background, if they need more contrast than the black-on-grey look. I found it a little harder to read without the boxes, so I re-checked the box ""Allow webpages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above."

Ditto what Angie said - you can control your hyperlink colors, but with Firefox, you will lose a lot of other formatting. I too suffer from near-sightedness and astigmatism, but I don't have any problems with certain text colors seeming to "float" forward or back.

Thanks for trying to help guys! I do have settings in Firefox as suggested by Bookerc1, but unfortunately find that unchecking the "allow webpages.. " box just causes other major problems with website viewing. SIGH!

I'm pretty sure that the pseudo three D effect I mentioned is related to my Asperger's. I have always had very strange visual defects related to colour - generally speaking warm or bright colours (light blue, aqua, lime green, yellow, orange, red, magenta) come forward and the cool side of the spectrum (purple, violet, indigo, dark blue, dark green) recedes! It seems that I was lucky that the original blue and green combination both came "forward" as it were.

I know the techs are busy, but if there is any chance of either changing the colours back to the original blue and green, OR changing the purple to a "brighter" shade
it would really be appreciated.

Thanks, KK.

PS: I had a look at the HTML for the current colours - the purple for visited links is currently #67009a - changing it to #72009a looks like it might do the trick.

I will suggest it to them - I know they've brightened it once already (it was so dark it almost appeared black on some screens.)

I sure hope they're able to resolve this for you! I don't experience this at nearly the same level you do, but on our large screen, the purple and green do seem to appear on different "planes." I don't notice it on our smaller screen as much.

I'm glad you spoke up, and can explain it so clearly!
