All so gorgeous... I can almost smell the Magnolia- Yummy!
SUMMER 2013 #2
I thought Magnolias bloom in spring?
Thanks for the encouragement.. This was a solo bloom and I'm sure the plant is just getting established after one year. It was interesting that even the saucer magnolia I have put out a second set of blooms , although only a few, a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed for more growth and more blossoms next year.
Very nice! My magnolia had a few blooms on it also a few weeks ago......always nice to see in the fall.....
Some bird might have a nice lunch!
Your flowers still look nice, Jen.......
was wondering since birds don't eat monarch butterflies because they taste nasty is it the same thing with the caterpillars? He was pretty well hidden I had to move the branches out of the way to take the pic
I think the cats protect themselves with hot colors i.e. poisonous, or bristly spines..
Good for them. I could use more bee and wasp protection. News flash! Putting pizza boxes over the wasp habitat worked. They moved on to a greener area of my garden and I could finish weeding there.
yay!
Only 2% of Monarchs survive in the wild, that's partly why I keep them in mesh until they turn, then release them. I do think the birds eat the cats. Still haven't seen one this year.
I know this year is supposed to be a bad year for Monarchs because of weather patterns. I hope they make it to their mountain in Mexico for the Winter.
Our paper had a story today saying that Monarchs are scarce...I've seen one.
saw a hummer chase a monarch away from "it's" flowers yesterday :)
Yes, hummers are very aggressive....small, but mighty!
that's funny
Love it!
some pictures from our maine vaca - interesting first few days - stopped at the muddy rudder on the way up for lunch and got stung by a wasp on my ring finger - finger blew up to 2x it's size and was worried we would have to the ring removed - all was fine the next day
except when I built that cairn in picture 3 I dropped the large flat base stone climbing up the 25' rock embankment on my hand above the ring finger and it swelled up like a boxing glove - just sore now
then on the third day I was out with my FIL waiting for coals to heat up in the grill drinking a glass of wine when I felt a drop hit me - the drop turned out to be poop from a hummingbird - fight afterward I hear the sound of one hovering, looked up and it was feeding young in a nest - you can see the beak in the last photo if you look close.
so if it is good luck to be pooped on by a bird - is it really good luck if you get hit by a hummer?
Stunning isn't it? My dad used to tromp around the fields near Colorado Springs to collect arrowheads. I have many of them. We went there for several family vacations. The rock formations have to stay there, though.
Nice!
What are the chances of getting hit with hummingbird poop? that is hysterical!
Garden of the Gods surprised me by beiong a small area, but it is so spectacular. I had seen photos of my Mom's when I was a child. Wish that I had known about the arrowheads when I was thee.
Beautiful pictures, Bill. I was there about 15 years ago, it's quite spectacular. Maine looks good, too. Love the cairn.
I would say you are doubly lucky!!! Not too many could say they have pooped on by a hummer.
G of the G is spectacular. And to stumble upon it is perfect for a rock guy!!!
Very tranquil photos, but not a tranquil experience, Bill....all I can say is I'm glad you weren't hit by an osprey!
:) was them every day patrolling the water looking for a meal.
Either slugs or snails. They've made lacework out of my Moonflower leaves.
I forgot about garden snails.
birdie birdie in the sky
let a terdie in my eye
I didn't scream, I didn't cry
I'm just glad that cows don't fly
we used to sing that as kids, DH never heard it, but I sang it to him when it happened to him
LOL
Cute little ditty, Debi!
My goodness, Bill.....you took some gorgeous photos despite all of your travails in Maine! Cute little hummer beak....really happy you didn't swat the Mom that blessed you so royally! I'm glad you were with Cindy when you needed a good nurse! Is your finger still sore? Great shots from Colorado too! I will show Hank that awesome cairn you built in Maine!
Nice late flowers, Jen!
My TB iris Cantina is beginning to show color in the buds. I am excited because this is my first ReBloomer!
Beautiful pictures of Maine. Interesting interaction with the hummers.
Not much blooming here but hydrangeas, Pink Diamonds and Limelight.
pretty colors, bill.
