77 going to 91. Steamy still!!

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Judging by the shadow next to the stone, I'd say it was sunny the day that photo was taken. < ;P

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

The sun is shining on us today, this July 4, 2013. Thank you Mother Nature. Have a great day everyone.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Cooler and dryer here, light showers yesterday. Dry enough to mow for a couple of hours before we go to a party. Everyone have a great and safe day.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Happy 4TH of July!!

The skies last night were clearest in a while...no clouds! Fireworks displays have not been canceled locally, but still chance of thunder storms...

Condition: sweaty stones Forecast: high humidity

I really enjoyed this old thread on Weather Forecasting Lore

Judy--If it wasn't over 300 Posts--I would read it.....besides--I am a very slow reader...
i LOVE this kind of stuff...G.

Glad y'all have a bit of sun... we are under a flood watch here.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Oh Darius, I thought about you when our weatherman said that it looks like our rain train was going to be pushed inland over the mountains instead of up the coastal plain. Hope you are able to hold your ground and keep your powder dry. The dumps we have gotten around here have been quick, often and unusually high volume.

Reminds me of 'Flash Flood'warnings out in the Southwest where rushing walls of water can appear in dry creek beds even with 'no rain in sight'

Guess we all could stand to know about our 'topology' and watersheds and patterns.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Gita, I have that thread saved as one of my "Watched Threads" so I can read at my leisure. Just have to remember to "mark as unread" before I leave it so I don't have to find it all over again!

If I don't mark it as Unread it will drop off my Thread Watcher because there will likely be no new posts.

I would expect you could track this weather lore thread the same way you keep track of the To the Pile Poetry thread.

Judy--

Do you bookmark it as a link--or did you c/p the whole thing in Word--
and then saved it in your Documents?

I don't think I can just bookmark a DG Thread (your link--opened).

I may be wrong...Educate me! Thanks. G.

Most of us have no clue about what precedes flooding in our areas. For years I have posted over and over about what hurricanes coming inland do in the mountains (usually the rain, not the wind). Several inches of rain on flat land is a lot but generally manageable; in the mountains, it all comes downhill as several feet.

I was still living in Annapolis when they were building the working scale model of the Bay and Wetlands. I never got to see it, though.

I did get to walk the hydraulic scale model in Memphis of the lower Mississippi River (just the river from Cairo, Illinois to New Orleans) and all the rivers-watersheds that feed it. Amazing!

When I started my blog several years ago, I wrote about what happens when I spit in the creek along the front of this property. It ends up in the Gulf of Mexico!

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

lol Darius! Mine goes almost directly into the Bay and then eventually meets up with yours in the Gulf Stream and then northward, to moderate England's climate!

(Blushing) When visiting Rocky Mountain National Park . we pulled off the main road where there was a large sign marking The Continental Divide. Seriously I still wonder which ocean my pee would have ended up in or if I could somehow manage half and half!

It is so exciting to get a view or even an inkling that our small hands all touch a greater 'elephant', the forest where our trees dwell and the ocean in which we all swim

We're finally getting all the rain y'all have been struggling with, on one side I'm overjoyed at the lawn getting a good soak, on the other I feel sorry for Greg who has to grill under an umbrella! Just got a 'weather update' on my phone, severe flash flooding warning! It's still 71F & our patio feels great! Happy 4th y'all!

Bec, what kind of dog is that? It is adorable.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

That's Bandit, our Japanese Chin...after a summer hair-cut

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

And with the sunshine comes the heat. Looks like 10 + days of 90s I think my plants will need sunscreen, too!
Last night nicest for the 4th we've had in a number of years. Great breeze throughout.

Becky, can't remember your current furbabies?

Darius, hope all is well with you and yours.

Forecast: bugs

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Got to get outside to mow my lawn before it gets to 90*.

Then--need to plant my latest haul---somewhere.....

Gotta get this done.....It's already July! O, well...! Gita

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

With a few drops of rain last evening came slightly cooler temps. Week ahead not quite as hot. No rain in the forecast, only possible afternoon thunder storms. Hit and miss rain has left my plants in need of more consistent moisture. At least my watering area is more condensed since my great plant parting out! Thanks again everyone and hope orphans are doing well for you.

Tip: Keep your hoses in the cool shade and check water temp before you water your plants to avoid cooking them.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

red skies this morning so probable storms later. temp going to 88 with high humidity.

tropical storm season starting almost a month early this year.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Judy--our weather woman.....gives us all daily reports...Thanks!

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Morning ladies, is your font on the posts very small or is it just me? This has been a nightmare for many of us who had no problems prior to them trying to improve the site.

The weather here is so very hot. Mostly 90's or very high 80s but the humidity is just killing me. I am beginning to think snow is not so bad and I never thought I would ever say that.

We are to have storms today and cloudy. I am going to work inside again or maybe just relax again today. I can not seem to get excited about anything just now with this heat. I walk in the morning but come in soaked and now I could go back to bed. The heat and humidity drains me. Be careful if you work outside . It is just too hot to take chances just for a few weeds or long grass. Hugs. JB

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

JB--
If I press control and the + sign at the same time--my font becomes bold
and slightly bigger. It I press control and the - sign--it goes back to regular font.

Have you tried that? I am sure you have.......Gita

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Got up really early to mow. Grass still slightly damp, but now it's drenched from the recent downpours. The sun comes out once in a while now and is brutally uncomfortable.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

We had a slight drizzle--that's all. it got things wet and nothing more....
Yes! it is uncomfortably sticky out there.....G.
.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Yes Gita, I do use that and it works but then I am scrolling back and forth left & right to read. I also have Zoom Text I could use but for moving around it is just not worth the effort. Thanks for the idea, but I have already done it.

Just came back on to tell you we are in a Tornado Watch until Thursday. Isn't that just jolly?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Did i hear mention of a tropical storm
Chantel

Yes, Sally, it has lost some of its strength and is expected to bring rain to the Carolinas in a few days. That is what I heard this morning early.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes it's still small, they are working on it

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Gita, thank you for the Ctrl + tip, I hadn't known about that or tried it. ... sadly, it does just like JB said, causes me to have to scroll left to right. Would rather not do that. If I just tilt my head a little farther up to look through more of the bi-focal part of my glasses I can see the smaller font ok. < ;) heeheeheee (my glasses are MUCH better for this than my contact lenses are, that's for sure!)... I'll just wear my glasses until the construction of the site is all finished, no biggie. < =D

Yesterday felt just like being in a sauna, ugh. This morning almost felt cool-ish when kissing DH goodbye while he left for work... and then it started to sprinkle on us. More rain, yay. Oh yeah, and it rained on me a bit yesterday morning as well while I was on my way home from getting the oil changed in my truck.. guess that's where the sauna effect came from. Goodness, what a summer!

JB, you be careful there Young Lady!! Don't wanna have to be calling you Dorothy now. < =P

Sally, I did notice the name of this current tropical storm, had to giggle. I think it's Chantal, no? (with an "a")? Close enough. ;)

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

speedie--

As I look at my screen here--right now--there is the text area and a 1" blank space on the left--
and a 1 1/4" blank space on the right.

When I do control+ I can still see the whole screen--but the blank spaces are now 1/2".
The writing turns "bold" which takes up a little more space and the font becomes just a smidge
bigger.
I do not have the scroll left or right problem.
Perhaps those of you who do, have set your font to be a 14 or more (under preferences) ,and then if you do
the control+ it goes off screen. I think my font is a 12--but i cannot tell.
I have never set it any particular size.

Since JB is blind in one eye--I am sure she needs a larger font to start with and then enlarging that--
by C+ it is likely to go off page. Just guessing......
G.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Hmmmm, good idea so I just checked my font size. It's 12. Any other ideas? < =D It's all good to me, I just look forward to when things are easier on JB. Heck, as far as I'm concerned, I'd take my glasses OFF and sit with my nose 1/2 inch from the screen if I had to, ... ANYTHING to be able to be here, I don't care!

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

You know Speedie with all the problems, we have each other and that is what matters. So we need to hang in there and hopefully things will soon be normal.

The weather today is rainy, hot, humid and miserable if you do not like this kind of climate. I am staying inside and just enjoying a quiet day. Have a good one. JB

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

You can change the font size within DG by selecting "preferences" (it is at the very top of your screen, to the left of "logout"). At the very bottom of that screen is an option to change font size. I use 16.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Another day of showers, everything is just growing like mad.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

2 1/2 inches in about an hour early this am Two big trees down on my route. No sunglasses needed today. Lots of examples of how crepe myrtle trees would look if they were 'weeping'.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I hate to complain about rain, but enough already!

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

I hear thunder starting as we speak. Oh joy, more of that wet stuff..?? I'm with Ric! < =/

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Im just enjoying not having to drag my hose around! And since I'm not working on my tan this year, cloudy, drizzly liquid shade is fine by me

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

"Liquid shade"... I had to chuckle. :)
