Gita, DH says you should get paid for your art work. I agree.
July blooms
typ, not sure what version of Windows you are using. You can rotate pictures in Windows XP and Windows 7 without using any graphics software.
Try this -- Go to the directory in which the picture is saved. Right-click on the name of the picture, and select "Rotate clockwise" or "Rotate counterclockwise".
The commands are probably available in other versions of Windows, but I cannot verify them because I only have XP and 7. Hope it works for you.
Good luck.
Donner,
I have windows 8 and you are correct in your assumption. You don't even need to open the jpg file to rotate it.
beautiful blooms Holly and Ric!! do you dig up your glad bulbs every year?
Donner,
WinDOH!s 8 automatically rotates all of my pictures, but then when I try to upload them, they are no longer rotated. Handy sometimes but for DG, it's a total fail. I even tried to "fool" the computer/website by over-rotating the picture so that it will be right-side up when it's uploaded. I did right-click and stuff, but for whatever reason it didn't work. The problem may lie in the interation between my camera's SD card and the computer. I dunno. I have no trouble on Windows 7 or with my Android phone. Windows 8 is a PITA!
Beatiful blooms Holly and Ric!
We do dig most of them up but there are a few that we don't bother digging up and they have been coming back for years. One at my parents house and one in the lamppost bed plus we always find a few small ones that somehow get missed and they keep popping up in odd places in the Veggie Garden so I have been wondering if I really need to dig them. Hate to take the chance and loose them all.
WinDOH!s 8, indeed!! LOL! Maybe Paul can provide a few tips since he can rotate pictures in Windows 8.
Just bought a laptop as a gift for my nephew who is going to start college next Monday. It came with Windows 8, and I am not touching it. He will have to figure out how to use it. Teehee.
Beautiful flowers, Holly!
Gorgeous blooms, Holly and Ric!
Holly--
Have you ever considered drying all the blooms you produce and making
your own Potpourri? Glads all keep their color when the flowers die off.
as do many other flowers...
The "watery" ones do not--like begonias, Impatiens, etc..
I have a lg, tote full of my own dried flower petals---and still cannot
resist drying all kinds of things....
I have made a lot of Potpourri sachets...but, like all my crafts,
things just are always on the back burner....
G.
Gita: That's amazing!
Gita, you are so creative! I bet they smell delicious.
Very pretty Gita, I haven't dried any flowers in years.
I buy old lace curtains in Thrift Stores--cut them into squares, line
them with tulle (keeps the small stuff from sifting through), fill them
and tie them off...Make them pretty!
The natural scent is very, very slight--but pleasant. You can add Potpourri oil
to make them smell much stronger...sometimes too strong...
I use a bamboo skewer to do this. Dip in the oil--and poke around
inside the sachet.
Now--any of you can do this......G.
Catmint, beautiful Plum Crazy Hibiscus.
Holly, Ric's glads are looking great! Most glads are zoned to grow in Z6. Not all of mine come back every year, though.
Gita, we have some family owned green houses here that feature products like your paintings, potpourri and other crafts which are done by local people. These products seem to move off the shelves very nicely. I see a future for you after HD!!
Donner, the "HELP" feature in windows 8 is amazing.
The Oriental Lilies are blooming now and the fragrance from just a single bloom fills the whole kitchen. Pope John Paul Rose is still one of my favorites. Wind's Celosia is looking good in that pot and will bloom soon, I'm sure. The colors on this lily are awesome. Phlox everywhere are putting on a show.
Thanks, Roses! I love your lilies--and the phlox is amazing--like mounds of lavender! And the rose is beautiful--mine have all been eaten by the Japanese beetles! :-(
Wind, the phlox with black-eyed susans and the 4 o'clocks are lovely--so bright and cheery!
--Jill's "Felicia Phlox" is blooming too. It always looks Neon to me...
--"Dimention" DL (from group Buy) is starting to bloom
--A sea of Frans Hals DL's...these bloom later than the others..
--The butterflies are all over my Tiger Lilies...
--White, perennial Hibiscus "Luna" is starting to bloom...
So is the red one...
--Red, perennial Hibiscus...
--Kopper King Hibiscus going to town right now...
--Brazilian Plume Flower starting to bloom. it is so big!
--Current image if my BIG pot. Nice pic of the shed too....
--This is my corner of the Phone Center at the HD. I sit here
and look out the big window and watch all the customers come and go....
Beautiful blooms Gita! Your hibiscus is so beautiful.
Love, Love, Love the Lisianthus
I had decided that I wouldn't do much from seed next year. Too much "plant sitting" involved! But now I think I'll do these again and add just a FEW different kinds of plants under lights. The Santa Rosa and Bluestone sales are too good to pass up in June, just when it would be safe to put out indoor grown seedlings, without all the work and mess. I'm switching to flowering shrubs in the gardens to make life easier and to give me more free time. Let's hope I'll stick to this and do some shrub layering to have something to swap each year. I do have about 25 different shrubs aside from the roses. That should keep me bush enough without the constant care of all the seeding.
I understand just what you are saying. Ric and I have been talking about doing a bit more traveling again and I keep thinking about early spring when we use to go away and everytime we talk about that time frame we think about all the annual plant plugs. They take a good bit of care and are so easily lost. You really need someone that kind of knows what they are doing to care for them.
Too bad we don't live closer so that we can cover for each other!!
Yes, They really do need daily care and in the GH sometimes 2x a day to open and close depending on the temps.
Teri that would be nice but at the current distance, by the time you got home you would need to start over. LOL
So, instead of being a landless gypsy I could be an itinerant plant sitter and migrate up and down the East Coast!
But my schedule is filling in quickly!
Our Verbena and Lantana were looking a little spent so I just spent a hour deadheading them. It does make a difference especially the Lantana as they put so much energy into forming the seeds (berries). I've also been removing the flower stems from the Caladiums as advised by you all. It does make sense, why waste the energy on an insignificant bloom on a plant grown strictly for foliage?
Oh yeah!! We treat our plant sitters like royalty!
Our plant sitters do OK, fair pay and pool privileges. As being royal, Prince William my like it, treated with gratitude, but not special.LOL
That would be fun!!
I decided to keep the flower stems on our caladiums... why mess with mother nature. I actually like them
no pics to post until tomorrow
I think a plant sitting business would be a great idea. We just came back from vacation and mom did a great job keeping things alive. Always is an issue for me when we go anywhere. We seem to have more potted plants than ever before and of course last week was HOT HOT HOT
Gita's red leaf canna is growing. I don't think it is large enough for blooms yet. I started it late. Our green leaf cannas, coral nymph salvias and red salvias are blooming. lots of hummingbirds again this year ^_^
Re the cannas---
My dark leafed Cannas are growing very well. Matter of fact--
they were the first ones up this spring...
NO blooms yet.
Wind's red cannas are also growing well and all are blooming.
Did you know this one makes BIG black seeds? Leave the spent blooms
be and the seeds will form at the base of every dead bloom.
They are the size of a large pea.
The slowest are my neighbor, Olga's, bright orange/yellow/green
leafed cannas. They are way behind....
WHY???? Because, Olga did not follow my directions and allow
all the dug up roots I gave her to air-dry before storing. I gave her a lot!
Short attention span!!!
She put them in two wooden crates and stacked them one on top of the other....
There was NOT one smidgeon of a live root in the bunch!
I kept some of hers for myself--and then had to share these with her
as she wanted to have some.
The root sections were small with just a couple of eyes. The best I could do...
These WILL re-grow--and, once more, i will have some roots to keep.
This time--in MY basement!!!
And--to me--these were the prettiest cannas of all 3 I have.
--blooms of the dark leafed canna
--Olga's Orange/yellow canna
--wind's red Canna--the one that makes seeds--and HUGE clumps of roots.
I had a similar bad experience with Dahlia Bulbs. I had them stored in newspaper and then in a black garbage bag. I was very late getting them out and the weather turned too warm in the garage. They were all mushy and slimy so I just threw them in a wheelbarrow with some amended soil that I would be using on my flower beds. Guess what's coming up in the middle of my beds!!!!
RRR let me guess??? dahlias lol!! lucky you. glad they made it. our dahlias are taking their good 'ol time this year
Gita, luv Olga's cannas too; are they tall or short? beautiful blooms
The gospel is---NEVER, EVER store bulbs in a plastic bag!!!!
They need to completely air-dry and then can be stored in an
open box with a bit of peat moss or a few sheets of
crumpled newspaper over them. NO watering at all during the winter,,,!!
wind--
Olga's Cannas are on the short, stocky side. Approx. 3'-4' tall.
There is NO spike thrusting up with blooms--like yours or
my dark-leafed one.
All the blooms are just bunched up on top. Gita
I always store the in newspaper and plastic and it seems to work out well unless I leave them in when it get too hot. I took out most of the other tropicals much sooner and they were fine. I am just amazed that the mushy rhizomes are actually producing plants.
