Gitagal wrote: Re the cannas--- My dark leafed Cannas are growing very well. Matter of fact-- they were the first ones up this spring... NO blooms yet. Wind's red cannas are also growing well and all are blooming. Did you know this one makes BIG black seeds? Leave the spent blooms be and the seeds will form at the base of every dead bloom. They are the size of a large pea. The slowest are my neighbor, Olga's, bright orange/yellow/green leafed cannas. They are way behind.... WHY???? Because, Olga did not follow my directions and allow all the dug up roots I gave her to air-dry before storing. I gave her a lot! Short attention span!!! She put them in two wooden crates and stacked them one on top of the other.... There was NOT one smidgeon of a live root in the bunch! I kept some of hers for myself--and then had to share these with her as she wanted to have some. The root sections were small with just a couple of eyes. The best I could do... These WILL re-grow--and, once more, i will have some roots to keep. This time--in MY basement!!! And--to me--these were the prettiest cannas of all 3 I have. --blooms of the dark leafed canna --Olga's Orange/yellow canna --wind's red Canna--the one that makes seeds--and HUGE clumps of roots. |
