What the heck is wrong with DG???????????????????

Fort Worth, TX

I haven't cleared cookies lately. too tired.Checking on the spayed mama cat and taking a nap. Anyone want a lovely female calico or one of her kittens? I got her spayed and shots this morning, and found a foster to get her young daughters socialized.

nap nap nap.

Fort Worth, TX

I thought I was dreaming. Posted that message, hit home again, and my home page displays beautifully. Wow. I didn't clear cookies. But I did basically "reload" I guess.

Well, I have decided to just learn to live with the overlapping etc. I had a lot of instructions from a lot of people and when I tried them my computer shut down for a day and a half. Had to get my daughter long distance to help me just get my computer running again.

I am pretty disgusted at this point. I do not have a banner. Just all the headers in a vertical line down the left hand side, and then overlap for about 3 inches. That's it. Don't give me any more instructions 'cause I won't try them. Did that and had a mess. Yes, even from Terry or Melody.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Sorry about your problems Jnette, mine is back to regular except for the new format, I hope it straightens out for you.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

jnette, get someone you know who is computer savvy to come over and read the directions that Terry gave you and have them reset things for you. From what you describe, your browsing history has not been cleared, despite your perhaps thinking that it has been. Once I get to the frustrated stage, as you describe, then I call someone to come and help me.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Steady, No, I think I will wait until they are done making changes. No point in doing anything now. Once they are done, then I will see if I can get someone to figure it out.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

But Steady, just yesterday you said that your overlapping was gone. Did you fix it, or was it something admin did in their changes?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I fixed it by clearing my browser history.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Mine evolved on it's own. I didn't do anything, everytime I logged on it was better. I was staying at a hotel so I thought it was their Internet at first.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

@Jnette....Your computer is trying to pull up old page formats. If you just hit the refresh icon (a curved arrow near the page address usually) it should reload. That fixed mine, hope it will work for you.

Beverly Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, Sheila I was so excited about your post thinking that I could get my problem solved. I have a white strip about 1" wide on the left side. Every time I pull up a new page I have to move the slide bar at the bottom in order to see the whole page. It is not a font problem. I've changed that with no improvement. I have also dumped my cache and done a scan. Do you have any other ideas?

Ironically I received my renewal notice from DG. When I replied and explained my problem and told them if it couldn't get straightened out I would not be renewing, they said that the tech department was working on it. But I'm really tired of it, so would welcome any idea you might have. Thanks.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Bezzie, that is something that tech crew is still working on. Not everyone experiences it but Terry has a thread where he lists things that they are still working on. That problem is one that is listed yesterday as still being worked on. I'll find the link and come back and post it.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Bezzie, also, you might need to update your browser and other things like Adobe Flash and Java.

(Carole) Cleveland, TX(Zone 9a)

yep.. they're either improving steadily, or i'm just getting over myself.
it's going to be ok. just still think it's too darn bright. maybe those blue/gray lines they had (every other line) on the old site helped tone it down a lot.
sure hope there was a darn good reason for doing all this.
i had to unwatch the thread where everyone was fussing about it the first day (including yours truly). so i don't remember if they ever said WHY ???

changes... ugh.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

There are two threads from Terry. The newer one is where she tried to give an update. Jnette was already on there so I did not post the link.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Texasbelle told me step by step how to fix mine and it fixed everything that was wrong. Write to her and maybe get the recipe.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Change can be good, but this, this way ... not !

I am not pleased.

Still waiting to see improvements.

Beverly Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

Steadycam3---Thanks for the link. I'm still waiting, but not real patiently!!! LOL

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

If you have a small monitor, that might be part of the problem as well. I logged on from work today during my lunch time and the page looked really bad. Stuff piled on top of other stuff. I think it's because my monitor at work is so much smaller than my home monitor.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I clicked on a tab by the refresh tab on my home computer and it came up again but perfectly, no overlaps. I've been using my iPad and have had no problems at all, except at the beginning. Maybe I'm not seeing everything but I've had very few issues and I don't know why. I'm not a techie by any means.

Did anybody know these changes were coming? I didn't but that mite have just been me.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

No I didn't know about it.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Not sure, but do you have the Dave's Garden thread in your list of views? I think they tell you on there what they are doing, but don't know if they gave us a heads up or just told us after the fact. I am sure Terry will tell us.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Terry said that they DIDN'T tell people ahead of time because there are enough people who are confused already (my translation) and the "help desk" would be bogged down with complaints before the change had even happened. You can read what she really said in that thread somebody linked to. But she and Melody have been super-helpful until everybody figures out how to clear their caches, and very responsive to people's concerns.

Don't think I will. Mine is just fine. Don't want to rock the boat.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

As for the white spaces on the sides, I have them, but they don't effect my text. I can fill in the white spaces by clicking "control" & "+", it is like a Zoom...but one too many and I can't see all the text. So.....try clicking "control" & "-" to bring it inside the box. Maybe it will be a temporary fix. You will have to change it again when you go back to other websites of course.
Being one that has been on here for several years, we have gone through a lot of growing pains to get better. Just please be pleased that Melody and Terry are long time employees and do really look out for us as users.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Someone may have already asked this BUT how do I start I new thread? I don't see that option anywhere, at least not where it use to be.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

From the main page of the desired forum, scroll down past the most-recent thread titles and you'll see the area to start a new thread.

There is a lot of truth in the old saying, " If its not broke do not
fix it". my screen is messed up like every ones.these conditions do not surprise me. I tried to download an album on my site and it only took four tries before i got a answer from admin. as to how and where to send, LOL! it still did not
work.
In spite of the problems there is still a world of information on
this site.

Wow Terry thank you, you are everywhere. I liked it up at the top but....

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Anyother words, it's at the bottom of the page....I found it but that is not where I would have looked. I don't think that is very user friendly, not meaning to complain but it seems like an odd location.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I thought it was always at the bottom. No?

True.

But.

There's also the age-old admonition that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Waiting until something is broken before you start fixing it can be extremely painful. That pain is compounded by every person who counts on whatever that "thing" is to work properly :-)

This is just a guess, but I think the reasoning behind the thread-starting location goes something like this: since this is a discussion forum, most people will first peruse the existing topics, and then - not finding a place for their question or comment - look for the spot to start a new conversation, and so it is at the bottom of the most active/recent threads. There may have been a link near the top, but it was just a shortcut to this same location. When we reworked the navigation, we tried to make sure it was streamlined and cut down on some of the redundancies.

And nope, I'm definitely not everywhere...but we are trying to keep up with threads that have questions about the site changes.

[quote="steadycam3"]I thought it was always at the bottom. No?

Yes, you are correct.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Thanks, I was scratching my head and wondering how I had been so wrong. I wasn't. :0) It was the bottom.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't think the new post or the reply to post is in a new position. Nothing changed with that.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

That does make sense. There use to be a link at the top of all the forums that said "start a new thread". I never really thought about it but a new thread could be started without even looking to see if the topic had been covered recently. So, now that you explained it, a link at the top isn't needed.

I do hope the font size gets fixed, it's killing my eyes. But maybe that's a good thing, I actually need to be doing gardening not talking about it. Lol

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Lisa, you can hold ctrl and + to make the font size larger. If you have a scroll mouse, you can hold down the ctrl and scroll the dial up to make the font larger.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks I'm terrible with computers, printers don't seem to like me either. I had a HUGE paper jam when I went to refill the paper, as it was printing, instead of taking one sheet it took the whole darn thing. My 15 yr old came in and said " why is there SO much paper in the printer?" I just looked at him. I did get it out but it's not printing quite as clearly. Lol

I use an iPad most of the time so I can make the whole page larger but then I have to scroll back and forth and I click on it other stuff by accident. When I'm at my computer I'll try what you posted. I know everything will get ironed out eventually. Until now I didn't den realize that the new thread thing was at the bottom of the page I always used the link at the top.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

Yuck, yuck, yuck. I have been mostly off DG for a few years now, just reading occasionally. But this is definitely not the old DG. I will just try to relearn it! :-)
