I barely recognize it. If this is permanent, I probably will be leaving the site.
edited to say that what I saw in the beginning was very different from what I see now. Now it looks similar to the way it used to. In the beginning, it was all messed up.

What the heck is wrong with DG???????????????????
It looks like they did some redesigning, it looks very business like, liked it better the other way too.
it's just too bright white for me.
i came home from a VERY bad day to sit on the couch with my feet up, laptop, and wanted to play on DG.
to find this just sucked the peace right out of me....
why, oh why?
On my phone, it looks overlapping and squished!
Mine has improved from what I saw originally. At first I had a typed list on the left and no banner at all and a ton of white space on the right. Now the list is gone, I have a banner similar to the old one and lots of gray space on each side of what used to be the whole page.
Well, glad you all are experiencing the same problems. Makes me feel better. LOL, give it over night. I am sure it will straighten out.
I thought it was my phone LOL! I hate the new look and some things are messed up from my phone view.
Sure miss the bluebonnet header! Doesn't look like home at all.
I hate this format. Hope this isn't permanent!!!
Seems like the ads are larger too.
You can disable the ads.
Unfortunately, this is permanent.
I had to clear all my history, delete cookies, and do a scan on my computer to get the page to function properly. I also had to change the font size on my browser to fit the entire width on my screen. It's pretty much the same once you get everything worked out.
How do you disable the ads?
At the right top of the home page there is a tan menu bar which says among other things, Preferences.
Click on preferences and another page will appear with a box on the left side. There you will find a line that says advertisements, click on that an there will be choices about what you want to see, make sure the buttons don't have a check mark, if there is one click on the check mark and it will disappear.
So if you don't have the buttons checked you won't see ads.
I hope that helps.
Thanks Frostweed. I'm working on changes now.
Hi All
had to really change my font size to see everything and couldn't find my trade tracker list for a while! Got it now!
miss the old site too
I write HTML. This looks like an edit that got started, and interrupted. I suspect it will improve when they have time to get back to it. A large cross-linked site take many many hours to present as seamlessly as DG does it, since every page is actually a separate file (probably - I've never written forum code).
I'll bet it will be great in a week or 2.
Bezziec, did you get your preferences set the way you want them?
I was trying to log on yesterday and it didn't recognize my name or pw or my email address.Frustrating. I have enough computer angst at work. Don't need any extra.Glad it wasn't just me. Hopefully it will look better soon.
you must have tried to log in DURING the edit. I got on later without issue. Changes take time, it is tedious. Plain pages without logins or shopping cart are much easier. Everything on DG is logged in, so it has to be time consuming
Frostweed---I got rid of the ads, but still have problems. My home page is set to go directly to the 2 forums that I frequent. When I open DG now, those two forums are listed there, but are overwritten in a vertical column with all the choices that used to be horizontally across the top, i.e. home, communities, guides and information, etc. I can click on the forum and get to a second page which has the same vertical column so I have to scroll down about 5 inches to get to the discussion. Also, if I look at a picture and try to go back to the post, it says web page has expired. On top of that, previously when you looked at a picture and went back to the post, if you were patient it would bring you back to the point that you were looking at. Now of course that doesn't work either. Booooo hiss!! But, thanks for your concern. I posted a gripe on the DG Facebook page and someone is promising to try to help. We'll see.
Bezzie, did you clear your history and your cache on your browser? Also, delete your cookies. That fixed my problems.
I agree with Gypsi....give it a few days. Remember when we didn't have avatars, or smilies, or could only post one picture at a time?
Stephanie---Yes, I did all that.
I see the forums just fine, I hope they can help you at the help desk.
Good news maybe. The gibberish is gone from my home page and I now have the horizontal beige bar at the top The only problem now is that the page is offset to the right and I have to move it over to read all of it. But at least it is progress,. Maybe better later today,
Yay!
Thank you, Josephine. Those ads were very annoying.
You are welcome, I am glad I was able to help.
To me, in the past the site appeared lush and rich. Now it appears pale and cheap. I dont understand those who are praising it as so much better.
I imagine we'll adjust.
I liked it the other way better also, the look at the top is too business like, but the navigation tabs are easier to find, I wish they had left the banners, they were very pretty.
I have a page open in another window from the old version so I can compare.
The page was just full. It has a nice dark green banner across the top (I loved that you could choose your banner), and a lot of green lines between sections. I hope they bring back the option to select a different banner.
I LIKED all the "FYI" stuff on the right side (the voting booth, Today's Articles on flowers and critters, Today in History, Today's Bloom, Fun Random Bug, and Happy Birthday). Edited to say I see now these ARE on my home page, with the green lines for each section. Good to see.
But i think a lot of it, for many of us, is that we think "green" and warm and inviting with the color. This stark white is too much on the eyes. I sit and watch TV with my family with my laptop on DG, sometimes in a darker room, and this is WAY too bright now. Other than the top banner, it would appear maybe the biggest change is that each page was fuller before.
Even my work environments are easier on the eyes. I do this kinda stuff all day; I need "peace" and "calm" and "warm" and welcoming when I come to Dave's Garden.
I truly hope they take everyone's comments into consideration, and continue to improve on the changes they have made. No doubt it was to accomplish some specific need, and not just to make it look different. Change for change sake is NOT a good reason.
Happy Gardening, however stark and sterile.

See, I always think the DG home page is pretty friendly. It still says "welcome home!"
I'm glad to see others were/are as surprised as I am. I'm on vacation and hadn't been on dg in a couple days. When I logged on I thought it was the iPad. The text was overlapping and all squished together, it has gotten better but all the forums look the same ie no bluebonnets. I wonder how it's going to look on my home computer?
I think they are not done working on it.
The only problem that I still have is that I have about 1" of white on the left and have to move every page to the left to read all of it. Changing the font size doesn't change that. Does anyone else have this problem or have you found a way to solve it? It gets tiresome having to change every time I bring up a new page.
What browser is everyone using? I'm using Firefox. main problem, home page has overwrite between horizontal and vertical list. Pages mostly white. But where they should be.
I am using Firefox but no problem with the writing but the thread space is narrower than the page, no problem with though.
I have 2 inches of white space on either side of the page. In Terry's memo it said this was to make it possible for those who need to increase the font size in order to read it, to do so without having to scroll back and forth. I suspect it is to make room for advertising, later. Since ads pay the bills, I dont think I have a right to complain about that. They may be doing something to accommodate smart phones and tablets as well. Im OK now that all the gibberish and overlapping and weird lists are gone. What I have now is similar enough to the old that I can use it.
Has everyone shut down their computers, cleared the history, cookies, and cache? That did it for me. I'm on FF and it looks great! You might even need to run a virus scan to totally delete your cookies as well.
